Highly degenerate spectra associated with universal extra dimensions (UED) provide an interesting phenomenology not only from the point of view of cosmology and astrophysics, but also for colliders. We study these exotic signals for the simplest case, called minimal UED, where it is natural to find slow charged particles, displaced vertices, tracks with non-vanishing impact parameters, track kinks, and even vanishing charged tracks.
We report on the current status of non-minimal universal extra dimension (UED) models. Our emphasis is on the possible extension of the minimal UED model by allowing bulk masses and boundary localized terms. We take into account the data from the Large Hadron Collider as well as direct and indirect searches of dark matter and electroweak precision measurements.
Discovery of a Higgs boson and precise measurements of its properties open a new window to test physics beyond the standard model. Models with Universal Extra Dimensions are not exception. Kaluza-Klein excitations of the standard model particles contribute to the production and decay of the Higgs boson. In particular, the parameters associated with third generation quarks are constrained by Higgs data, which are relatively insensitive to other searches often involving light quarks and leptons. We investigate implications of the 126 GeV Higgs in Next-to-Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions, and s…
We discuss the collider phenomenology of the model of Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions (MUED) at the Large hadron Collider (LHC). We derive analytical results for all relevant strong pair-production processes of two level 1 Kaluza-Klein partners and use them to validate and correct the existing MUED implementation in the fortran version of the PYTHIA event generator. We also develop a new implementation of the model in the C++ version of PYTHIA. We use our implementations in conjunction with the CHECKMATE package to derive the LHC bounds on MUED from a large number of published experimental …
The flavour changing decays of the top quark are severely suppressed in the Standard Model by virtue of the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism. Many beyond Standard Model extensions predict the decay rates at a level that is observable in the LHC. We perform a complete one-loop calculation of the flavour changing top quark decays $t\to cγ$ and $t\to ch$ in the universal extra dimensional model. Apart from considering the decay rates in the minimal version of the model, we also calculate the rates in the non-minimal scenario where the presence of boundary localised terms interestingly modify t…
We estimate contributions from Kaluza-Klein excitations of third generation quarks and gauge bosons to the branching ratio of $B\rightarrow X_sγ$ decay process in 5-Dimensional Universal Extra Dimensional scenario with non-vanishing boundary localised terms. This model is conventionally known as non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional model. We have derived the lower limit on the size of the extra dimension by comparing our theoretical estimation of the branching ratio which includes next-to-next-to leading order QCD corrections with its experimentally measured value. Coefficients of the bound…
We discuss prospects of the $Z'$ search at the LHC in non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensions with tree-level brane-local terms in five dimensions. In this scenario, we find two major differences from the usual $Z'$ physics: (i) two $Z'$ candidates close-by in mass exist; (ii) the effective couplings to the SM fermions could be very large due to drastic overlapping of their profiles along the extra dimension. To evaluate the actual situation precisely, we reconsider the important issues of resonant processes, i.e., treatment of resonant propagators and including interference effects.
We build a supersymmetric model with $SU(2)_{L}\otimes SU(2)_{R}\otimes U(1)_{(B-L)}$ electroweak gauge symmetry, where $SU(2)_{L}$ is the left-handed currents while $SU(2)_{R}$ is the right-handed currents and $B$ and $L$ are the usual baryonic and leptonic numbers. We can generate an universal seesaw mechanism to get masses for all the usual fermions in this model, it means quarks and leptons, and also explain the mixing experimental data. We will also to study the masses of the Gauge Bosons and also the masses of all usual scalars of this model.
We examine the unitarity constraints in gauge and scalar sectors of non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional model. We show that some of the tree-level two-body scattering amplitudes in gauge and scalar sectors do not respect partial wave unitarity. Unitarity analysis of this model leads to an upper bound on corresponding boundary-localized (BLT) parameter which depends on the maximum number of Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode considered in the analysis. This upper bound of the relevant BLT parameter decreases with the increasing KK-modes. The results are, in effect, independent of the inverse of compact…
We report the most general expression for the chiral charges of a non-universal $U(1)'$ with identical charges for the first two families but different charges for the third one. The model is minimal in the sense that only standard model fermions plus right-handed neutrinos are required. By imposing anomaly cancellation and constraints coming from Yukawa couplings we obtain two different solutions. In one of these solutions, the anomalies cancel between fermions in different families. These solutions depend on four independent parameters which result very useful for model building. We build di…
The minimal model of Universal Extra Dimensions (MUED) is briefly reviewed. We explain how the cross-sections for Higgs production via gluon fusion and decay into two photons are modified, relative the the Standard Model (SM) values, by KK particles running in loops, leading to an enhancement of the gg to h to two photons and gg to h to W+W- cross-sections. ATLAS and CMS searches for the SM Higgs in these channels are reinterpreted in the context of MUED and used to place new limits on the MUED parameter space. Only a small region of between 1 and 3 GeV around mh = 125 GeV for 500 GeV < 1/R < …
We calculate the effective $Z b\bar b$ coupling at one loop level, in the framework of non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional (nmUED) model. Non-minimality in Universal Extra Dimensional (UED) framework is realized by adding kinetic and Yukawa terms with arbitrary coefficients to the action at boundary points of the extra space like dimension. A recent estimation of the Standard Model (SM) contribution to $Zb\bar{b}$ coupling at two loop level, points to a $1.2σ$ discrepancy between the experimental data and the SM estimate. We compare our calculation with the difference between the SM predic…
In this letter, we present LHC limits on the minimal universal extra dimension (MUED) model from LHC Run 1 data and current limits from searches of the ongoing Run 2. Typical collider signals of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) states mimic generic degenerate supersymmetry (SUSY) missing transverse momentum signatures since the excited KK particles cascade decay to jets, leptons and the lightest KK particle which is stable due to KK parity and thus evades detection. We test the parameter space against a large number of supersymmetry based missing energy searches implemented in the public code CheckMATE. …
We have studied phenomenological implications of several family non-universal U(1)$^\prime$ sub-models in the U(1)$^\prime$-extended Minimal Supersysmmetric Standard Model (UMSSM) possesing an extra down quark type exotic field. In doing this, we have started by enforcing anomaly cancellation criteria to generate a number of solutions in which the extra U(1)$^\prime$ charges of the particles are treated as free parameters. We have then imposed existing bounds coming from colliders and astrophysical observations on the assumed sub-models and observed that current limits dictate certain charge o…
We estimate contributions from Kaluza-Klein excitations of gauge bosons and physical charge scalar for the explanation of the lepton flavor universality violating excess in the ratios $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ in 5 dimensional Universal Extra Dimensional scenario with non-vanishing boundary localized terms. This model is conventionally known as non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional model. We obtain the allowed parameter space in accordance with constraints coming from $B_c \to τν$ decay, as well as those from the electroweak precision tests.
We propose a non-universal U(1)'_F symmetry combined with the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. All anomaly cancellation conditions are satisfied without exotic fields other than three right-handed neutrinos. Because our model allows all three generations of chiral superfields to have different U(1)'_F charges, upon the breaking of the U(1)'_F symmetry at a low scale, realistic masses and mixing angles in both the quark and lepton sectors are obtained. In our model, neutrinos are predicted to be Dirac fermions and their mass ordering is of the inverted hierarchy type. The U(1)'_F charges …
We work out the strongly interacting sector of a non-minimal Universal Extra Dimension (nmUED) scenario with one flat extra spatial dimension orbifolded on S^1/Z_2 in the presence of brane-localized kinetic and Yukawa terms. On compactification, these terms are known to have significant, nontrivial impact on the masses and the couplings of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations. We study the masses of the level `1' KK gluon and the quarks and find the modified strong interaction vertices involving these particles. The scenario conserves KK parity. Possibility of significant level-mixing among the q…
Loop-induced decay of a neutral Higgs boson into a pair of gluons or photons has great implications for the Higgs discovery at the LHC. If the Higgs boson is heavy with mass above $\sim 500\gev$, however, these radiative branching ratios are very suppressed in the standard model (SM), as the new decay channels are kinematically open. We note that these radiative decays can be sizable for the heavy CP-odd second Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode of the Higgs boson, $χ^\tw$, in the minimal universal extra dimension model: highly degenerate mass spectrum of the theory prohibits kinematically the dominant KK…
We calculate the production rates of the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) photon $γ^{(2)}$ and Z boson $Z^{(2)}$ at the LHC including all significant processes in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (MUED) model. For discrimination of the MUED model from other TeV scale models at the LHC, $γ^{(2)}$ and $Z^{(2)}$ play a crucial role. In order to discuss the discrimination and calculate their production rates, we derive KK number violating operators including the contribution of the top Yukawa coupling. Using these operators, we accurately calculate branching ratios of second KK particles. In addition…
We present a general model with universal extra dimensions in the presence of the bulk fermion masses and boundary localized kinetic terms, which are generically allowed by symmetries of five dimensional gauge theory. We provide a comprehensive analysis for a general UED model, including Kaluza-Klein mass spectra, their interactions with the SM particles, and constraints from LHC, electroweak tests, and dark matter experiments. Finally we show current bounds on the size of allowed universal bulk mass and universal brane-localized terms.
In this paper we consider an $S^{1}/\mathbb{Z}_2$ compactified flat extra dimensional scenario where all the standard model states can access the bulk and have generalised brane localised kinetic terms. The flavour structure of brane kinetic terms for the standard model fermions are dictated by stringent flavour bounds on the first two generations implying an $U(2)_{Q_L} \otimes U(2)_{u_R} \otimes U(2)_{d_R}$ flavour symmetry. We consider the constraints on such a scenario arising from dark matter relic density and direct detection measurements, precision electroweak data, Higgs physics and LH…
We examine the low scale particle spectroscopy of an SO(10) (or equivalently SU(5)) inspired supersymmetric model with non-universal gaugino masses. The model assumes minimal supergravity and contains the same number of fundamental parameters as the constrained minimal supersymmetric model (CMSSM.) Realistic solutions compatible with dark matter and other applicable experimental constraints are shown to exist for both positive and negative signs of the MSSM parameter mu. We present several benchmark points which will be tested at the LHC and by the ongoing direct and indirect dark matter detec…
We analyze the semileptonic $B\to K_2^*(1430)l^+l^-$ transition in universal extra dimension model. In particular, we present the sensitivity of related observables such as branching ratio, polarization distribution and forward-backward asymmetry to the compactification factor (1/R) of extra dimension. The obtained results from extra dimension model show overall a considerable deviation from the standard model predictions for small values of the compactification factor. This can be considered as an indication for existence of extra dimensions.
We investigate Higgs boson production process via gluon fusion at LHC in our six dimensional universal extra dimension model compactified on a spherical orbifold S^2/Z_2. We find a striking result that Higgs production cross section in our model is predicted to be 30(10)% enhancement comparing to the predictions of the Standard Model (the minimal universal extra dimension model) for the compactification scale of order 1 TeV.
Universal extra dimension models with Kaluza-Klein parity provide us excellent candidates for dark matter. We consider phenomenological universal extra dimension models where the Kaluza-Klein (KK) mass spectrum is different from that of the minimal universal extra dimension model, and compute the thermal relic abundance of the first KK mode of the photon taking into account the production of second KK particles. It is pointed out that its thermal relic abundance depends significantly on the mass degeneracy between the KK-photon and other KK particles because of considerable coannihilation effe…
The evolution of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and the quark Yukawa couplings is performed for the one-loop renormalization group equations in the universal extra dimension model. It is found that the evolution of mixing angles and the CP violation measure J may rapidly vary in the presence of the Kaluza-Klein modes, and this variation becomes dramatic as the energy approaches the unification scale.
Constraints on the Minimal SUSY SO(10) Model from Cosmology and the $b\to s γ$ Decay
Universal Extra Dimension (UED) model is one of the popular extension of the Standard Model (SM) which offers interesting phenomenology. In the minimal UED (mUED) model, Kaluza-Klein (KK) parity conservation ensures that $n=1$ KK states can only be pair produced at colliders and the lightest KK particle is stable. In most of the parameter space, first KK excitation of SM hypercharge gauge boson is the lightest one and it can be a viable dark matter candidate. Thus, the decay of $n=1$ KK particles will always involve missing transverse energy as well as leptons and jets. The production cross se…
The exclusive radiative $B \to K^* γ$, $B \to K^*_2 γ$, $B_s \to ϕγ$ and $Λ_b \to Λγ$ decays are studied in a new physics scenario with two universal extra dimensions compactified on a chiral square. The computed branching fractions depend on the size $R$ of the extra dimensions, and a comparison with the available measurements allows us to put bounds on such a fundamental parameter. From the mode $B^0 \to K^{*0} γ$ we obtain the most stringent bound: $1 \over R>710$ GeV.
Models of minimal lepton flavor violation where the seesaw scale is higher than the relevant flavor scale predict that all lepton flavor violation is proportional to the charged lepton Yukawa matrix. If extra vector-like leptons are within the reach of the LHC, it will be possible to test the resulting predictions in ATLAS/CMS.
The rare semileptonic Bc-> D_s^* \ell^+ \ell^- decay is studied in the scenario of the universal extra dimension model with a single extra dimension in which inverse of the compactification radius R is the only new parameter. The sensitivity of differential branching ratio, total branching ratio, polarization and forward-backward asymmetries of final state leptons, both for muon and tau, to the compactification parameter is presented. For some physical observables uncertainty on the form factors and resonance contributions have been considered in the calculations. Obtained results, compared wi…
The rare semileptonic $B_c \rightarrow D_{s,d}\, \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays are studied in the universal extra dimension with a single extra dimension scenario. The sensitivity of differential and total branching ratios, polarization asymmetries of final state leptons to the compactification parameter is presented, both for muon and tau decay channels. Comparing with the standard model, the obtained results indicate that there are new contributions to the physical observables. Considering the ability of available experiments, it would be useful to study these effects.
