The total cross section of the $pp\to ppπ^0$ reaction near threshold is calculated in pionless effective field theory with a di-baryon and external pions. The amplitudes for a leading one-body and subleading contact neutral pion production vertex are obtained including the initial and final state interactions. After estimating a low-energy constant in the contact vertex, we compare our results for the total cross section with the experimental data.
We study breakup of the deuteron induced by neutrinos in the neutral $νd\to νnp$, $\barν d\to \barν np$ and the charged $\barν d\to e^+ n n$, $νd\to e^- pp$ processes. Pionless effective field theory with dibaryon fields is used to calculate the total cross sections for neutrino energies $E_ν$ from threshold to 20 MeV. Amplitudes are expanded up to next-to-leading order, and the partial wave is truncated at $P$-waves. The Coulomb interaction between two protons is included nonperturbatively in the reaction amplitudes, and an analytic expression of the amplitudes is obtained. The contribution o…
Spin polarization observables of the deuteron photodisintegration at low energies are studied in a pionless effective field theory up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). The total and differential cross sections, induced neutron polarization $P_{y'}$, and tensor analyzing powers $T_{20}$ and $T_{22}$ of the process are calculated at photon energies from the breakup threshold to 20~MeV. We find that the NNLO corrections in the cross sections and $P_{y'}$ converge well whereas they turn out to be important contributions in $T_{20}$ and $T_{22}$. We discuss the discrepancy between theory and…
We calculate the $p$-wave contribution to the proton-proton fusion $S$ factor and its energy derivative in pionless effective field theory (EFT) up to next-to-leading order. The leading contributions are given by a recoil piece from the Gamow-Teller and Fermi operators, and from relativistic $1/m$ suppressed weak interaction operators. We obtain the value of $(2.5\pm0.3 )\times 10^{-28}~\mathrm{MeV\ fm^2}$ for the $S$ factor and $(2.2\pm0.2) \times 10^{-26}~\mathrm{fm^2}$ for its energy derivative at threshold. These are smaller than the results of a prior study that employed chiral EFT by sev…

We demonstrate how S-matrix poles manifest themselves as the physical spectrum near the upper threshold in the context of the two-channel uniformized Mittag-Leffler expansion, an expression written as a sum of pole terms under an appropriate variable where the S-matrix is made single-valued (uniformization). We show that the transition of the spectrum is continuous as a S-matrix pole moves across the boundaries of the complex energy Riemann sheets and that the physical spectrum peaks at or near the upper threshold when the S-matrix pole is positioned sufficiently close to it on the uniformized…
We present the recent developments in the studies of the structure of hadron resonances, focusing on the compositeness in terms of the hadronic degrees of freedom. We discuss the model dependence of the compositeness, and show that the structure of the near-threshold bound states and resonances is model-independently determined. The applications to various hadrons are summarized.
We study the compositeness of near-threshold states to clarify the internal structure of exotic hadron candidates. Within the framework of effective field theory, we extend the Weinberg's weak-binding relation to include the nearby CDD (Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson) pole contribution with the help of the Pade approximant. Finally, using the extended relation, we conclude that the CDD pole contribution to the Lambda(1405) baryon in the Kbar N amplitude is negligible.
The near-threshold $e^+e^- \to Λ\barΛ$ reaction is studied with the assumption that the production mechanism is due to a near-$Λ\barΛ$-threshold bound state. The cross section of $e^+e^- \to Λ\barΛ$ reaction is parametrized in terms of the electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ hyperon, which are obtained with the vector meson dominance model. It is shown that the contribution to the $e^+e^- \to Λ\barΛ$ reaction from a new narrow state with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ is dominant for energies very close to threshold. The mass of this new state is around 2231 MeV, which is very close to the ma…
The near threshold $π^- p \to ηn$ reaction in an effective Lagrangian approach
Role of N*(1650) in the near threshold pp --> p Lambda K+ and pp --> p Sigma0 K+ reactions
Mixing of the shell model (SM) eigenstates due to the coupling via the common decay channel leads in many cases to the formation of a collective eigenstate which carries many features of the nearby decay channel. This generic mechanism in open quantum systems explains the phenomenological Ikeda diagram and generalizes it for various clusters/correlations in the vicinity of the respective cluster decay thresholds. The near-threshold collectivization of the SM states may also influence their electromagnetic decays. We discuss this phenomenon on the example of B(EL) decays of near-threshold 2+ st…
The presence of cluster-like narrow resonances in the vicinity of reaction/decay thresholds is a ubiquitous phenomenon with profound consequences. We argue that the continuum coupling, present in the open quantum system description of the atomic nucleus, can profoundly impact the nature of near-threshold states. In this Letter, we discuss the structure of the recently observed near-threshold resonance in $^{11}$B, whose very existence explains the puzzling beta-delayed proton emission of the neutron-rich $^{11}$Be.
We apply perturbative QCD to investigate the near threshold heavy quarkonium photoproduction at large momentum transfer. From an explicit calculation, we show that the conventional power counting method will be modified and the three quark Fock state with nonzero orbital angular momentum dominates the near threshold production. It carries a power behavior of $1/(-t)^5$ for the differential cross section. We further comment on the impact of our results on the interpretation of the experiment measurement in terms of the gluonic gravitational form factors of the proton.
Perturbative QCD is applied to investigate the near threshold heavy quarkonium photoproduction at large momentum transfer. We take into account the contributions from the leading three-quark Fock states of the nucleon. The dominant contribution comes from the three-quark Fock state with one unit quark orbital angular momentum (OAM) whereas that from zero quark OAM is suppressed at the threshold. From our analysis, we also show that there is no direct connection between the near threshold heavy quarkonium photoproduction and the gluonic gravitational form factors of the nucleon. Based on the co…
Numerous quarkonium(like) states lying near $S$-wave thresholds are observed experimentally. We propose a self-consistent approach to these near-threshold states compatible with unitarity and analyticity. The underlying coupled-channel system includes a bare pole and an arbitrary number of elastic and inelastic channels treated fully nonperturbatively. The resulting analytical parametrization is ideally suited for a combined analysis of the data available in various channels that is exemplified by an excellent overall description of the data for the charged $Z_b(10610)$ and $Z_b(10650)$ states…
