Effective Liouville operators of the first- and the second-order symplectic integrators are obtained for the one-dimensional harmonic-oscillator system. The operators are defined only when the time step is less than two. Absolute values of the coordinate and the momentum monotonically increase for large time steps.
By introducing an integration factor to the differential one-form of contact dynamics, equations of motion are derived variationally, and contact Poisson bracket and contact Lagrangian are formulated. Discrete symplectic integrator, named hybrid leap-frog method, is found to be a numerical solver of equations of motion for contact dissipative systems.
We construct a symplectic, globally defined, minimal-coordinate, equivariant integrator on products of 2-spheres. Examples of corresponding Hamiltonian systems, called spin systems, include the reduced free rigid body, the motion of point vortices on a sphere, and the classical Heisenberg spin chain, a spatial discretisation of the Landau-Lifschitz equation. The existence of such an integrator is remarkable, as the sphere is neither a vector space, nor a cotangent bundle, has no global coordinate chart, and its symplectic form is not even exact. Moreover, the formulation of the integrator is v…
We propose a family of reliable symplectic integrators adapted to the Discrete Non-Linear Schrödinger equation; based on an idea of Yoshida (H. Yoshida, Construction of higher order symplectic integrators, Physics Letters A, 150, 5,6,7, (1990), pp. 262.) we can construct high order numerical schemes, that result to be explicit methods and thus very fast. The performances of the integrators are discussed, studied as functions of the integration time step and compared with some non symplectic methods.
The kinetic term of the $N$-body Hamiltonian system defined on the surface of the sphere is non-separable. As a result, standard explicit symplectic integrators are inapplicable. We exploit an underlying hierarchy in the structure of the kinetic term to construct an explicit time-reversible symplectic scheme of second order. We use iterative applications of the method to construct a fourth order scheme and demonstrate its efficiency.
In this article we introduce a low order implicit symplectic integrator designed to follow the Hamiltonian flow as close as possible. This integrator is obtained by the method of Liouvillian forms and does not require particular hypotheses on the Hamiltonian. The numerical scheme introduced in this paper is a modification of the symplectic mid-point rule, it is symmetric and it is obtained by an isotopy of the deformation of the exact Hamiltonian flow to the straight line passing by two consecutive points of the discretized flow. This isotopy generates an alternative vector field on the flow l…
