We investigate the electromagnetic properties of the deuteron such as the charge and magnetic form factors by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) with the separable ansatz. In solving the deuteron bound state solution to the BSE, we include negative energy components of $P$-wave in addition to the $^3S_1$ and $^3D_1$ states of positive energy, employing a rank IV separable ansatz. We found that the inclusion of the negative energy components improves systematically the electromagnetic properties which are not described in the conventional non-relativistic impulse approximation.
The solution for the nucleon-nucleon T matrix in the framework of the covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach for a two spin-one-half particle system with a separable kernel of interaction is analyzed. The explicit analytical connection between parameters of the separable kernel and low energy scattering parameters, deuteron binding energy and phase shifts is established.Covariant separable kernels for positive-energy partial channels with total angular momentum J=0 (1S0+, 3P0+) and J=1 (3S1+-3D1+, 1P1+, 3P1+) are constructed by using obtained relations.
The dispersion relations for nucleon-nucleon (NN) T-matrix in the framework of Bethe-Salpeter equation for two spin one-half particle system and with separable kernel of interaction are considered in the paper. The developed expressions are applied for construction of the separable kernel of interaction for S partial-waves in singlet and triplet channels. We calculate the low energy scattering parameters and the phase shifts and also the deuteron binding energy with the separable interaction. The approach can be easily extended to higher partial-waves for NN-scattering and other reactions (ant…
In the paper the covariant kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interaction of particles with scalar propagators is analyzed. The Bethe-Salpeter equation for the T matrix is considered in the rank- one separable kernel. The parameters of the kernel for the specific partial-wave channels explicitly connect with the observables { low energy scattering parameters and phase shifts, deuteron binding energy. Covariant separable kernels forthe partial-wave channels with total angular momentum J = 0 (1S0, 3P0) and J = 1 (3S1 -3D1, 1P1, 3P1) are constructed.
We investigate the relation between the rank I separable potential for the covariant Bethe-Salpeter equation and the one-boson-exchange potential. After several trials of the parameter choices, it turns out that it is not always possible to reproduce the phase-shifts calculated from a single term of the one-boson-exchange potential especially of the $σ$-exchange term, separately by the rank I separable potential. Instead, it is shown that the separable potential is useful to parameterize the total nucleon-nucleon interaction.
We present an alternative organizational scheme for developing effective theories of 2- and 3-body systems that is systematic, accurate, and efficient with controlled errors. To illustrate our approach we consider the bound state and scattering properties of the 2- and 3-nucleon systems. Our approach combines the computational benefits of using separable potentials with the improved convergence properties of potentials evolved with a renormalization group procedure. Long ago Harms showed that any potential can be expanded in a series of separable terms, but this fact is only useful if the expa…
We calculate the full static interaction of a Skyrmion and an anti-Skyrmion as a function of separation and relative grooming. From this, using projection methods and Born-Oppenheimer mixing, we obtain the nucleon antinucleon interaction. We find agreement with the major features of the empirical interaction including the strong central attraction and the sharp onset of annihilation at about 1 fm.
In the paper the so-called modified Yamaguchi function for the Bethe-Salpeter equation with a separable kernel is discussed. The type of the functions is defined by the analytic stucture of the hadron current with breakup - the reactions with interacting nucleon-nucleon pair in the final state (electro-, photo-, and nucleon-disintegration of the deuteron).
Elastic electron-helium-3 scattering is studied in the relativistic impulse approximation. The amplitudes for the three-nucleon system are obtained by solving the relativistic generalization of the Faddeev equations with a separable rank-one kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The contribution of partial-wave states with nonzero orbital moment of a nucleon pair is investigated. The static approximation and additional relativistic corrections for the 3He charge form factor are calculated for the momentum transfer squared up to 100 fm^-2. The contribution of the 3D1 partial-wave state and…
We study radiative capture reactions using quasi-separable potentials. This procedure allows an easier treatment of non-local effects that can be extended to three-body problems. Using this technique, we calculate the neutron and proton radiative capture cross sections on $^{12}$C. The results obtained are shown to be in good agreement with the available experimental data.
We introduce TRENTO, a new parametric initial condition model for high-energy nuclear collisions based on eikonal entropy deposition via a "reduced thickness" function. The model simultaneously describes experimental proton-proton, proton-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus multiplicity distributions, and generates nucleus-nucleus eccentricity harmonics consistent with experimental flow constraints. In addition, the model is compatible with ultra-central uranium-uranium data unlike existing models that include binary collision terms.
The paper considers the electrodisintegration of the deuteron for kinematic conditions of the JLab experiment E-94-019. The calculations have been performed within the covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable kernel of nucleon-nucleon interactions. The results have been obtained using the relativistic plane wave impulse approximation and compared with experimental data and other models. The influence of nucleon electromagnetic form factors has been investigated.
We consider the interaction of two skyrmions in the framework of the sudden approximation. The widely used product ansatz is investigated. Its failure in reproducing an attractive central potential is associated with terms that violate G-parity. We discuss the construction of alternative ansätze and identify a plausible solution to the problem.
Recently, a relativistic chiral nucleon-nucleon interaction is formulated up to leading order which provides a good description of the phase shifts of $J\leq1$ partial waves [Chin. Phys. C 42 (2018) 014103]. Nevertheless, a separable regulator function that is not manifestily covariant was used in solving the relativistic scattering equation. In the present work, we first propose a covariant and separable form factor to regularize the kernel potential and then apply it to study the simplest but most challenging $^1S_0$ channel which features several low-energy scales. In addition to being self…
A realistic nucleon-nucleon potential is transformed into a low-momentum effective one (LMNN) using the Okubo theory. The separable potentials are converted from the LMNN with a universal separable expansion method and a simple Legendre expansion. Through the calculation of the triton binding energies, the separability for the convergence of these ranks is evaluated. It is found that there is a tendency for the lower momentum cutoff parameter $Λ$ of LMNN to gain good separability.
We analyze the nucleon matrix element of the strange quark vector current in a nucleon--model independent dispersive approach with input from the current world data set for the isoscalar electromagnetic form factors. The update of Jaffe's minimal 3-pole ansatz for the spectral functions yields a 40% larger (Sachs) strangeness radius, $(r_s^2)_{Sachs} = 0.20 {\rm fm}^2$, and a by 20% reduced magnitude of the strangeness magnetic moment, $μ_s = -0.26$. In the pole approximation these values are shown to be upper bounds. After extending the ansatz in order to implement the asymptotic QCD momentum…
One important ingredient for many applications of nuclear physics to astrophysics, nuclear energy, and stockpile stewardship are cross sections for reactions of neutrons with rare isotopes. Since direct measurements are often not feasible, indirect methods, e.g. (d,p) reactions, should be used. Those (d,p) reactions may be viewed as three-body reactions and described with Faddeev techniques. Faddeev equations in momentum space have a long tradition of utilizing separable interactions in order to arrive at sets of coupled integral equations in one variable. Optical potentials representing the e…
Baryons as relativistic bound states in 3-quark correlations are described by an effective Bethe-Salpeter equation when irreducible 3-quark interactions are neglected and separable 2-quark correlations are assumed. We present an efficient numerical method to calculate the nucleon mass and its covariant wave function in this quantum field theoretic quark-diquark model with quark-exchange interaction. Expanding the components of the spinorial wave function in terms of Chebyshev polynomials, the four-dimensional integral equations are in a first step reduced to a coupled set of one-dimensional on…
The role of dimensional regularization is discussed and compared with that of cut-off regularization in some quantum mechanical problems with ultraviolet divergence in two and three dimensions with special emphasis on the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Both types of renormalizations are performed for attractive divergent one- and two-term separable potentials, a divergent tensor potential, and the sum of a delta function and its derivatives. We allow energy-dependent couplings, and determine the form that these couplings should take if equivalence between the two regularization schemes is to be …
We consider a two-nucleon system described by two different skyrmion models that provide attraction for the central NN potential. One of these models is based on the product ansatz and the other on dilaton coupling. Within these models we ask the question, To what degree does the nucleon swell or shrink when the internucleon separation distance is appropriate to attraction or repulsion? We find typically swelling of 3 to 4 percent for central attraction of some 40 to 50 MeV.
We calculate the nucleon-antinucleon static potential in the Skyrme model using the product ansatz and including some finite $N_C$ (number of colors) corrections. The mid and long range part of the spin-spin and tensor force are correctly given in both iso-spin channels while the central interaction has insufficient mid-range attraction. This is a well known problem of the product ansatz that should be repaired with better Skyrme dynamics.
The low-momentum interaction $V_{\text{low-k}}$ derived from realistic models of the nucleon-nucleon interaction is presented in a separable form. This separable force is supported by a contact interaction in order to achieve the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter. Bulk properties of nuclear matter and finite nuclei are investigated for the separable form of $V_{\text{low-k}}$ and two different parameterizations of the contact term. The accuracy of the separable force in Hartree-Fock calculations with respect to the original interaction $V_{\text{low-k}}$ is discussed. For a cut…
We outline a separable matrix ansatz for the potentials in effective field theories of nonrelativistic two-body systems with short-range interactions. We use this ansatz to construct new fixed points of the renormalisation-group equation for these potentials. New fixed points indicate a much richer structure than previously recognized in the RG flows of simple short-range potentials.
Background: Separable interactions have a long history in nuclear physics. In the last few years, separable expansions have been used to represent the optical potential between a nucleon (proton or neutron) and a target. Purpose: We explore the non-local properties of these separable optical potentials as well as their convergence behavior. Method: For a couple of cases, we use the generalized Ersnt-Shakin-Thaler scheme to generate separable interactions starting from local optical potentials. We study the variation of the interaction with energy range and rank. Results: We find that, overall …
A confining, Goldstone theorem preserving, separable Ansatz for the ladder kernel of the two-body Bethe-Salpeter equation is constructed from phenomenologically efficacious $u$, $d$ and $s$ dressed-quark propagators. The simplicity of the approach is its merit. It provides a good description of the ground-state isovector-pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector meson spectrum; facilitates an exploration of the relative importance of various components of the two-body Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes, showing that sub-leading Dirac components are quantitatively important in the isovector-pseudoscalar mes…
Recent developments of the covariant Bethe-Salpeter (BS) approach with the use of the separable interaction for the deuteron are reviewed. It is shown that the BS formalism allows a covariant description of various electromagnetic reactions like the lepton-deuteron scattering, deuteron electro-disintegration, deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of leptons on light nuclei. The procedure of the construction of the separable nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction is discussed. The BS formalism facilitates analysis of the role of the P-waves (negative energy components) in the electromagnetic properties of …
We study a hybrid chiral model for the nucleon based on the linear sigma model with explicit quarks. We solve the model using a Fock-space configuration consisting of three quarks plus three quarks and a pion as the ground state ansatz in place of the ``hedgehog'' ansatz. We minimize the expectation value of the chiral hamiltonian in this ground state configuration and solve the resulting equations for nucleon quantum numbers. We calculate the canonical set of nucleon observables and compare with previous work.
We construct a folding potential between the $α$ and $Λ$ particles based on underlying nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions. Starting from a phenomenological $Λ$-N potential and a Gaussian form of the $α$-particle wave function we obtain for the built $α$-$Λ$ interaction a bound $^5_Λ$He state with the binding energy (3.10 MeV), which is consistent with recent experimental data $3.12 \pm 0.02$ MeV. When in turn an exact solution of the four-body Faddeev-Yakubovsky equation for the $α$-particle calculated with the CDBonn, Nijmegen or Argonne V18 realistic nucleon-nucleon potential i…
The electromagnetic form factors are computed using eigenstates of linear momentum for the nucleon. The latter is described in the framework of the chiral color-dielectric model, projecting the hedgehog ansatz on eigenstates of angular momentum and isospin. Form factors are well reproduced, with the exception of the magnetic one for the proton, up to $q^2 \simeq 0.5$ GeV$^2$. The effect of the removal of the spurious center-of-mass contributions shows up mainly in the electric form factor of the proton. A noticeable improvement is obtained with respect to the calculation without linear momentu…
Sturmian eigenstates specified by stationary scattering boundary conditions are particularly useful in contexts such as forming simple separable two nucleon t matrices, and are determined via solution of generalised eigenvalue equation using real and symmetric matrices. In general, the spectrum of such an equation may contain complex eigenvalues. But to each complex eigenvalue there is a corresponding conjugate partner. In studies using realistic nucleon--nucleon potentials, and in certain positive energy intervals, these complex conjugated pairs indeed appear in the Sturmian spectrum. However…
We re-examine the contribution of the $πN$ $S_{31}$ channel to the three-nucleon force for an energy dependent separable potential. Despite the lack of cancellation between the $S_{31}$ and the $P_{11}$ and $P_{33}$ channels, the total contribution of the three-nucleon force to the triton binding is still small.
We examine the convergence properties of the 2-nucleon Effective Range Expansion as used in Effective Theories (ET-ERE's) for 3-nucleon calculations. We accomplish this by accounting for the 2-body dynamics with a simple rank-1 separable 2-body potential where the finite range effects can be incorporated systematically in both the 2- and 3-body problems. We make our initial comparisons in the simple context of the $^3S_1$ 2-nucleon channel and the $^4S_{3/2}$ 3-nucleon channel. We find that convergence problems for some of the 3-nucleon scattering amplitudes using the ET-ERE can be traced to i…
The relativistic properties of the three-nucleon system are investigated using the Faddeev equations within the Bethe-Salpeter approach. The nucleon-nucleon interaction is chosen in a separable form. The Gauss quadrature method is used to calculate the integrals. The system of the integral equations are solving by iterations method. The binding energy and the partial-wave amplitudes (1S 0 and 3S 1) of the triton are found.
We derive QCD sum rules from the nucleon two-point function in nuclear medium, calculating its specral function in chiral perturbation theory to one loop. Our calculation shows the inadequacy of the commonly used ansatz to represent the two-point function as the sum of a nucleon pole term and a spectral integral over the high energy continuum. We also point out that it is the energy variable and not its square that must be used in writing the dispersion integrals. The sum rules are obtained by equating terms linear in nucleon number density of the spectral and operator representations of the c…
The reaction of the elastic electron-deuteron scattering at high momentum transfer is investigated within the Bethe-Salpeter approach. The relativistic covariant Graz II separable kernel of nucleon-nucleon interactions is used to analyze the deuteron structure functions, form factors and tensor of polarization components. The modern data for the electromagmetic nucleons structure from the double polarization experiments as well as some other models of the nucleon form factors are considered.
Using the Dirac-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation to study nuclear pairing, we have found the short-range correlations of the Dirac $^1$S$_0$ pairing fields to be essentially identical to those of the two-nucleon virtual state at all values of the baryon density. We make use of this fact to develop a relativistic separable potential that correctly describes the pairing fields.
By calculating the contribution of the $π-π$ three-body force to the three-nucleon binding energy in terms of the $πN$ amplitude using perturbation theory, we are able to determine the importance of the energy dependence and the contribution of the different partial waves of the $πN$ amplitude to the three-nucleon force. A separable representation of the non-pole $πN$ amplitude allows us to write the three-nucleon force in terms of the amplitude for $NN\rightarrow NN^*$, propagation of the $NNN^*$ system, and the amplitude for $NN^*\rightarrow NN$, with $N^*$ being the $πN$ quasi-particle ampl…
A new version of the separable kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interaction in the Bethe-Salpeter approach is presented. The phase shifts are fitted to recent experimental data for singlet and uncoupled triplet partial waves of the neutron-proton scattering with total angular momenta J=0,1. The results are compared with other model calculations.
We generalize the hidden-fermion family of neural network quantum states to encompass both continuous and discrete degrees of freedom and solve the nuclear many-body Schrödinger equation in a systematically improvable fashion. We demonstrate that adding hidden nucleons to the original Hilbert space considerably augments the expressivity of the neural-network architecture compared to the Slater-Jastrow ansatz. The benefits of explicitly encoding in the wave function point symmetries such as parity and time-reversal are also discussed. Leveraging on improved optimization methods and sampling tec…
We have searched for bound states in the pion-Lambda-nucleon system by solving the nonrelativistic Faddeev equations, as well as a relativistic version, with input separable pion-nucleon, pion-Lambda, and Lambda-nucleon interactions. A bound-state solution, driven by the Delta(1232) and Sigma(1385) p-wave meson-baryon resonances, was found in the channel (I,JP)=(3/2,2+), provided the Lambda lab momentum at which the Lambda-nucleon S=1,L=0,J=1 phase shift becomes negative is larger than about 750-800 MeV/c. Other strange and charmed pion-baryon-baryon systems that might have bound states of a s…
The present contribution reviews recent advances made toward a microscopic understanding of superfluidity in nuclei using many-body methods based on the BCS ansatz and low-momentum inter-nucleon interactions, themselves based on chiral effective field theory and renormalization group techniques.
Several boson exchange potentials, describing the NN interaction $T_\ell\le 300$ MeV with high quality, are extended in their range of applicability as NN optical models with complex local or separable potentials in r-space or as complex boundary condition models. We determine in this work the separable potential strengths or boundary conditions on the background of the Paris, Nijmegen-I, Nijmegen-II, Reid93, AV18 and inversion potentials. Other hadronic systems, $π$N, KN and $ππ$, are studied with the same token. We use the latest phase shift analyzes SP00, SM00 and FA00 by Arndt {\em et al.}…
By solving the Schrödinger equation for the three-quark system in the hyperspherical harmonic approach, we have studied the low energy part of the nucleon and $Δ$ spectra using a quark-quark interaction which reproduces the nucleon-nucleon phenomenology. The quark-quark hamiltonian considered includes, besides the usual one-gluon exchange, pion and sigma exchanges generated by the chiral symmetry breaking. The baryonic spectrum obtained is reasonable and the resulting wave function gives consistency to the ansatz used in the two baryon system.
The in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section is calculated starting from the thermodynamic T-matrix at finite temperatures. The corresponding Bethe-Salpeter-equation is solved using a separable representation of the Paris nucleon-nucleon-potential. The energy-dependent in-medium N-N cross section at a given density shows a strong temperature dependence. Especially at low temperatures and low total momenta, the in-medium cross section is strongly modified by in-medium effects. In particular, with decreasing temperature an enhancement near the Fermi energy is observed. This enhancement can be dis…
We study the possibility to bind eight quarks in a molecular hadronic system composed of two nucleons and an antikaon, with the quantum numbers of a hexaquark flavour, in particular with strangeness -1, isospin 1/2, parity -, baryonic number 2 and two possible spins, 0 or 1. These exotic hadrons are motivated by the deuteron, a proton-neutron boundstate, and by the model of the Lambda(1405) as an antikaon proton boundstate. We discuss the possible production of this hadron in the experiments which are presently investigating hot topics like the Theta+ pentaquark or the K- deeply bound in nucle…
This paper studies elastic electron-trinucleon scattering in the relativistic impulse approximation. The amplitudes for a trinucleon have been obtainedby solving the relativistic generalization of the Faddeev equations with amultirank separable kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interactions. The staticapproximation and additional relativistic corrections for the trinucleon electromagnetic form factors have been calculated for the momentum transfersquared up to 50 fm^-2
Low-lying collective states involving many nucleons interacting by a random ensemble of two-body interactions (TBRE) are investigated in a collective SD-pair subspace, with the collective pairs defined dynamically from the two-nucleon system. It is found that in this truncated pair subspace collective vibrations arise naturally for a general TBRE hamiltonian whereas collective rotations do not. A hamiltonian restricted to include only a few randomly generated separable terms is able to produce collective rotational behavior, as long as it includes a reasonably strong quadrupole-quadrupole comp…
The electrodisintegration of the deuteron is considered within a relativistic model of nucleon-nucleon interaction based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable interaction kernel. The exclusive cross section is calculated within the impulse approximation under various kinematic conditions. Final state interactions between the outgoing nucleons are taken into account. The comparison of nonrelativistic and relativistic calculations is presented. Partial-wave states of the neutron-proton pair with total angular momentum $J=0,1$ are considered.
The proton's elastic electromagnetic form factors are calculated using an Ansatz for the nucleon's Poincare' covariant Faddeev amplitude that only retains scalar diquark correlations. A spectator approximation is employed for the current. On the domain of q^2 accessible in modern precision experiments these form factors are a sensitive probe of nonperturbative strong interaction dynamics. The ratio of Pauli and Dirac form factors can provide realistic constraints on models of the nucleon and thereby assist in developing an understanding of nucleon structure.
An exact solution of nuclear spherical mean-field plus orbit-dependent non-separable pairing model with two non-degenerate j-orbits is presented. The extended one-variable Heine-Stieltjes polynomials associated to the Bethe ansatz equations of the solution are determined, of which the sets of the zeros give the solution of the model, and can be determined relatively easily. A comparison of the solution to that of the standard pairing interaction with constant interaction strength among pairs in any orbit is made. It is shown that the overlaps of eigenstates of the model with those of the stand…
The standard relativistic mean-field model is extended by including dynamical effects that arise in the coupling of single-nucleon motion to collective surface vibrations. A phenomenological scheme, based on a linear ansatz for the energy dependence of the scalar and vector components of the nucleon self-energy for states close to the Fermi surface, allows a simultaneous description of binding energies, radii, deformations and single-nucleon spectra in a self-consistent relativistic framework. The model is applied to the spherical, doubly closed-shell nuclei 132Sn and 208Pb.
The influence of the partial-wave states with nonzero orbital moment of the nucleon pair on the binding energy of the triton in the relativistic case is considered. The relativistic generalization of the Faddeev equation in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism is applied. Two-nucleon t matrix is obtained from the Bethe-Salpeter equation with separable kernel of nucleon-nucleon interaction of the rank one. The kernel form factors are the relativistic type of the Yamaguchi functions. The following two-nucleon partial-wave states are considered: $^1S_0$, $^3S_1$, $^3D_1$, $^3P_0$, $^1P_1$, $^3P_1$. The s…
The Bayesian approach for feed-forward neural networks has been applied to the extraction of the nucleon axial form factor from the neutrino-deuteron scattering data measured by the Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) bubble chamber experiment. This framework allows to perform a model-independent determination of the axial form factor from data.. When the low $0.05 < Q^2 < 0.10$ GeV$^2$ data is included in the analysis, the resulting axial radius disagrees with available determinations. Furthermore, a large sensitivity to the corrections from the deuteron structure is obtained. In turn, when the…
The exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron is considered within the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable interaction kernel. The relativistic kernel of nucleon-nucleon interaction is obtained considering the phase shifts in the elastic neutron-proton scattering and properties of the deuteron. The differential cross section is calculated within the impulse approximation under several kinematic conditions of the Bonn experiment. Final state interactions between the outgoing nucleons are taken into account. Partial-wave states of the neutron-proton pair with total angular momentum J=…
