In this paper the classical theory of spherical harmonics in R^m is extended to superspace using techniques from Clifford analysis. After defining a super-Laplace operator and studying some basic properties of polynomial null-solutions of this operator, a new type of integration over the supersphere is introduced by exploiting the formal equivalence with an old result of Pizzetti. This integral is then used to prove orthogonality of spherical harmonics of different degree, Green-like theorems and also an extension of the important Funk-Hecke theorem to superspace. Finally, this integration over the supersphere is used to define an integral over the whole superspace and it is proven that this is equivalent with the Berezin integral, thus providing a more sound definition of the Berezin integral.
This contribution follows the talk, given by F. Delduc at the conference SQS'2011 in Dubna, Russia (July 18-23, 2011). To a considerable extent it is a summary of known facts about the links between geometry and extended supersymmetry in d=1 mechanics, with emphasis on the harmonic superspace method created in Dubna in the 80's. Some recent developments based on ref. [1] are also presented.
Basics of ${\cal N}=2, 4D$ conformal and Einstein supergravities in the harmonic superspace approach are outlined. The crucial merit of this formulation consists in that the relevant off-shell supermultiplets, in particular ${\cal N}=2, 4D$ superconformal Weyl multiplet, are accommodated by the harmonic-analytic unconstrained prepotentials with a clear geometric meaning, like in the analogous formulation of ${\cal N}=2, 4D$ supersymmetric gauge theory. The fundamental gauge group of conformal supergravity is constituted by the analyticity-preserving diffeomorphisms of harmonic superspace. The …
We explain how a generic HKT geometry can be derived using the language of N = 4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics. To this end, one should consider a Lagrangian involving several (4,4,0) multiplets defined in harmonic superspace and subject to nontrivial harmonic constraints. Conjecturally, this general construction worked out earlier by Delduc and Ivanov gives a complete classification of all HKT geometries. Each such geometry is generated by two different functions (potentials) of a special type that depend on harmonic superfields and on harmonics. Given these two potentials, one can derive …
Using the harmonic superspace formalism, we find the metric of a certain 8-dimensional manifold. This manifold is not compact and represents an 8-dimensional generalization of the Taub-NUT manifold. Our conjecture is that the metric that we derived is equivalent to the known metric possessing a discrete $Z_2$ isometry, which may be obtained from the metric describing the dynamics of four BPS monopoles by Hamiltonian reduction.
Starting from the standard supertwistor realizations for conformally compactified N-extended Minkowski superspaces in three and four space-time dimensions, we elaborate on alternative realizations in terms of graded two-forms on the dual supertwistor spaces. The construction is further generalized to the cases of 4D N=2 and 3D N-extended harmonic/projective superspaces. We present a superconformal Fourier expansion of tensor superfields on the 4D N=2 harmonic/projective superspace.
This paper describes a fully covariant approach to harmonic superspace. It is based on the conformal superspace description of conformal supergravity and involves extending the supermanifold M^{4|8} by the tangent bundle of CP^1. The resulting superspace M^{4|8} x TCP^1 can be identified in a certain gauge with the conventional harmonic superspace M^{4|8} x S^2. This approach not only makes the connection to projective superspace transparent, but simplifies calculations in harmonic superspace significantly by eliminating the need to deal directly with supergravity prepotentials. As an applicat…
In this paper we will analyse the deformation of a ABJ theory in harmonic superspace. So, we will first discuss deformations of the harmonic superspace by a graviphoton background and then study the ABJ theory in this deformed harmonic superspace. This deformed ABJ theory will be shown to posses $\mathcal{N} =6$ supersymmetry. We also discuss the BRST symmetry of this theory.
In this paper we will analyse the ABJM theory in harmonic superspace. The harmonic superspace variables will be parameterized by the coset $SU(2)/U(1)$ and thus will have manifest $\mathcal{N} =3$ supersymmetry. We will study the quantum gauge transformations and the BRST transformations of this theory in gaugeon formalism. We will use this BRST symmetry to project out the physical sub-space from the total Hilbert space. We will also show that the evolution of the $\mathcal{S}$-matrix is unitary for this ABJM theory in harmonic superspace.

We develop a novel bi-harmonic $\mathcal{N}=4$ superspace formulation of the $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) in four dimensions. In this approach, the $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM superfield constraints are solved in terms of on-shell $\mathcal {N}=2$ harmonic superfields. Such an approach provides a convenient tool of constructing the manifestly $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric invariants and further rewriting them in $\mathcal{N}= 2$ harmonic superspace. In particular, we present $\mathcal{N}=4$ superfield form of the leading term in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM effective action which…
It is a brief account of the harmonic superspace formulations of {\cal N}=(1,0) and {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM theories in six dimensions. The on-shell {\cal N}=(1,1) harmonic superspace is argued to provide an efficient tool of constructing candidate counterterms and other invariants of {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM. It allows one, e.g., to find out an essential difference between the single- and double-trace dimension d=10 invariants, which could be capable to explain the absence of the three-loop double-trace (non-planar) counterterms in this theory. The defining superspace constraints of {\cal N}=(1,1) SYM a…
Recent papers have established the relationship between projective superspace and a complexified version of harmonic superspace. We extend this construction to the case of general nonlinear sigma models in both frameworks. Using an analogy with Hamiltonian mechanics, we demonstrate how the Hamiltonian structure of the harmonic action and the symplectic structure of the projective action naturally arise from a single unifying action on a complexified version of harmonic superspace. This links the harmonic and projective descriptions of hyperkahler target spaces. For the two examples of Taub-NUT…
We consider the six dimensional hypermultiplet, vector and tensor multiplet models in (1,0) harmonic superspace and discuss the corresponding superfield actions. The actions for free (2,0) tensor multiplet and for interacting vector/tensor multiplet system are constructed. Using the superfield formulation of the hypermultiplet coupled to the vector/tensor system we develop an approach to calculation of the one-loop superfield effective action and find its divergent structure.
On-shell supergravity vertex operators in an $AdS_5\times S^5$ background are described in the pure spinor formalism by the zero mode cohomology of a BRST operator. After expanding the pure spinor BRST operator in terms of the $AdS_5$ radius variable, this cohomology is computed using N=4 harmonic superspace variables and explicit superfield expressions are obtained for the behavior of supergravity vertex operators near the boundary of $AdS_5$.
We quantize super Yang-Mills action in $\mathcal{N}=3$ harmonic superspace using "Fermi-Feynman" gauge and also develop the background field formalism. This leads to simpler propagators and Feynman rules that are useful in performing explicit calculations. The superspace rules are used to show that divergences do not appear at 1-loop and beyond. We also compute a finite contribution to the effective action from a 4-point diagram at 1-loop, which matches the expected covariant result.
We consider the map of three-dimensional N=4 superfields to N=3 harmonic superspace. The left and right representations of the N=4 superconformal group are constructed on N=3 analytic superfields. These representations are convenient for the description of N=4 superconformal couplings of the Abelian gauge superfields with hypermultiplets. We analyze the N=4 invariance in the non-Abelian N=3 Yang-Mills theory.
We consider the harmonic-superspace formalism in the $N=4$ supersymmetry using the $SU(4)/SU(2)\times SU(2)\times U(1)$ harmonics which was earlier applied to the abelian gauge theory. The N=4 non-abelian constraints in a standard superspace are reformulated as the harmonic-superspace equations for two basic analytic superfields: the independent superfield strength W of a dimension 1 and the dimensionless harmonic gauge 4-prepotential V having the $U(1)$ charge 2. These constraint equations I manifestly depend on the Grassmann coordinates $θ$, although they are covariant under the unusual N=4 …
We develop N=4 d=4 bi-harmonic superspace and use it to derive a novel form for the low-energy effective action in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We solve the N=4 supergauge constraints in this superspace in terms of analytic superfields. Using these superfields, we construct a simple functional that respects N=4 supersymmetry and scale invariance. In components, it reproduces all on-shell terms in the four-derivative part of the N=4 SYM effective action; in particular, the F^4/X^4 and Wess-Zumino terms. The latter comes out in a novel SO(3) x SO(3)-invariant form.
We develop a superfield approach to compute chiral anomalies in general ${\cal N}=(1,0)$ supersymmetric gauge theories in six dimensions. Within the harmonic-superspace formulation for these gauge theories, the anomalous contributions to the effective action only come from matter and ghost hypermultiplets. By studying the short-distance behaviour of the propagator for the hypermultiplet coupled to a background vector multiplet, we compute the covariant and consistent chiral anomalies. We also provide a superform formulation for the non-abelian anomalous current multiplet in general ${\cal N}=(…
We consider the off-shell formulation of the 5D, $ {\cal N}$=1 super Yang-Mills and super Chern-Simons theories in harmonic superspace. Using such a formulation we develop a manifestly supersymmetric and gauge invariant approach to constructing the one-loop effective action both in super Yang-Mills and super Chern-Simons models. On the base of this approach we compute the leading low-energy quantum contribution to the effective action on the Abelian vector multiplet background. This contribution corresponds to $F^4$ invariant which is given in 5D superfield form.
