We compute expectation values of mixed traces containing both matrices in a two matrix model, i.e. generating function for counting bicolored discrete surfaces with non uniform boundary conditions. As an application, we prove the $x-y$ symmetry of the algebraic curve invariants introduced in math-ph/0702045.
An order $2m$ complex tensor $\cH$ is said to be Hermitian if \[\mathcal{H}_\ijm=\mathcal{H}_\jim ^*\mathrm{\ for\ all\ }\ijm .\] It can be regarded as an extension of Hermitian matrix to higher order. A Hermitian tensor is also seen as a representation of a quantum mixed state. Motivated by the separability discrimination of quantum states, we investigate properties of Hermitian tensors including: unitary similarity relation, partial traces, nonnegative Hermitian tensors, Hermitian eigenvalues, rank-one Hermitian decomposition and positive Hermitian decomposition, and their applications to qu…
We consider two different genus expansions of the free energy functions of Hermitian one-matrix models, one using fat graphs, one using ordinary graphs (thin graphs). Some structural results are first proved for the thin version of genus expansion using renormalized coupling constants, and then applied to the fat version.
We investigate the existence and properties of a double asymptotic expansion in $1/N^{2}$ and $1/\sqrt{D}$ in $\mathrm{U}(N)\times\mathrm{O}(D)$ invariant Hermitian multi-matrix models, where the $N\times N$ matrices transform in the vector representation of $\mathrm{O}(D)$. The crucial point is to prove the existence of an upper bound $η(h)$ on the maximum power $D^{1+η(h)}$ of $D$ that can appear for the contribution at a given order $N^{2-2h}$ in the large $N$ expansion. We conjecture that $η(h)=h$ in a large class of models. In the case of traceless Hermitian matrices with the quartic tetr…
We present a method to compute the genus expansion of the free energy of Hermitian matrix models from the large N expansion of the recurrence coefficients of the associated family of orthogonal polynomials. The method is based on the Bleher-Its deformation of the model, on its associated integral representation of the free energy, and on a method for solving the string equation which uses the resolvent of the Lax operator of the underlying Toda hierarchy. As a byproduct we obtain an efficient algorithm to compute generating functions for the enumeration of labeled k-maps which does not require…
We present a method to characterize and compute the large N formal asymptotics of regular and critical Hermitian matrix models with general even potentials in the one-cut and two-cut cases. Our analysis is based on a method to solve continuum limits of the discrete string equation which uses the resolvent of the Lax operator of the underlying Toda hierarchy. This method also leads to an explicit formulation, in terms of coupling constants and critical parameters, of the members of the Painlevé I and Painlevé II hierarchies associated with one-cut and two-cut critical models respectively.
This paper provides the constructive loop vertex expansion for stable matrix models with (single trace) interactions of arbitrarily high even order in the Hermitian and real symmetric cases. It relies on a new and simpler method which can also be applied in the previously treated complex case. We prove analyticity in the coupling constant of the free energy for such models in a domain uniform in the size of the matrix
We consider the spherical integral of real symmetric or Hermitian matrices when the rank of one matrix is one. We prove the existence of the full asymptotic expansions of these spherical integrals and derive the first and the second term in the asymptotic expansion. Using asymptotic expression of the spherical integral, we derive the asymptotic freeness of Wigner matrices with (deterministic) Hermitian matrices.
A formal expansion for the Green's functions of an interacting quantum field theory in a parameter that somehow encodes its "distance" from the corresponding non-interacting one was introduced more than thirty years ago, and has been recently reconsidered in connection with its possible application to the renormalization of non-hermitian theories. Besides this new and interesting application, this expansion has special properties already when applied to ordinary (i.e. hermitian) theories, and in order to disentangle the peculiarities of the expansion itself from those of non-hermitian theories…
We use genus zero free energy functions of Hermitian matrix models to define spectral curves and their special deformations. They are special plane curves defined by formal power series with integral coefficients generalizing the Catalan numbers. This is done in two different versions, depending on two different genus expansions, and these two versions are in some sense dual to each other.
We consider an auxiliary spectral problem originally introduced by Gerdjikov, Mikhailov and Valchev (GMV system) and its modification called pseudo-Hermitian reduction which is extensively studied here for the first time. We describe the integrable hierarchies of both systems in a parallel way and construct recursion operators. Using the concept of gauge equivalence, we construct expansions over the eigenfunctions of recursion operators. This permits us to obtain the expansions for both GMV systems with arbitrary constant asymptotic values of the potential functions in the auxiliary linear pro…
We prove that the asymptotic behavior of the second mixed moment of the characteristic polynomials of the 1D Gaussian real symmetric band matrices coincides with those for the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE). Here we adapt the approach of T. Shcherbina'14, where the case of 1D Hermitian random band matrices was considered.
We analyze in full mathematical rigor the most general quartically perturbed invariant probability measure for a random tensor. Using a version of the Loop Vertex Expansion (which we call the mixed expansion) we show that the cumulants write as explicit series in 1/N plus bounded rest terms. The mixed expansion recasts the problem of determining the subleading corrections in 1/N into a simple combinatorial problem of counting trees decorated by a finite number of loop edges. As an aside, we use the mixed expansion to show that the (divergent) perturbative expansion of the tensor models is Bore…
A long time ago, it has been conjectured that a Hamiltonian with a potential of the form x^2+i v x^3, v real, has a real spectrum. This conjecture has been generalized to a class of so-called PT symmetric Hamiltonians and some proofs have been given. Here, we show by numerical investigation that the divergent perturbation series can be summed efficiently by an order-dependent mapping (ODM) in the whole complex plane of the coupling parameter v^2, and that some information about the location of level crossing singularities can be obtained in this way. Furthermore, we discuss to which accuracy t…
Let A and E be Hermitian self-adjoint matrices, where A is fixed and E a small perturbation. We study how the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of A+E depend on E, with the aim of obtaining first order formulas (and when possible also second order) that are explicitly computable in terms of the spectral decomposition of A and the entries in E. In particular we provide explicit Frechet type differentiability results. The findings can be seen as an extension of the Rayleigh-Schrödinger coefficients for analytic expansions of one-dimensional perturbations.
We consider the asymptotic behavior of the second mixed moment of the characteristic polynomials of the 1D Gaussian band matrices, i.e. of the hermitian matrices $H_n$ with independent Gaussian entries such that $< H_{ij}H_{lk}>=δ_{ik}δ_{jl}J_{ij}$, where $J=(-W^2\triangle+1)^{-1}$. Assuming that $W^2=n^{1+θ}$, $0<θ<1$, we show that this asymptotic behavior (as $n\to\infty$) in the bulk of the spectrum coincides with those for the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble.
The goal of this article is to rederive the connection between the Painlevé $5$ integrable system and the universal eigenvalues correlation functions of double-scaled hermitian matrix models, through the topological recursion method. More specifically we prove, \textbf{to all orders}, that the WKB asymptotic expansions of the $τ$-function as well as of determinantal formulas arising from the Painlevé $5$ Lax pair are identical to the large $N$ double scaling asymptotic expansions of the partition function and correlation functions of any hermitian matrix model around a regular point in the bul…
We investigate a lattice version of the Yang-Lee model which is characterized by a non-Hermitian quantum spin chain Hamiltonian. We propose a new way to implement PT-symmetry on the lattice, which serves to guarantee the reality of the spectrum in certain regions of values of the coupling constants. In that region of unbroken PT-symmetry we construct a Dyson map, a metric operator and find the Hermitian counterpart of the Hamiltonian for small values of the number of sites, both exactly and perturbatively. Besides the standard perturbation theory about the Hermitian part of the Hamiltonian, we…
The Bochner-Schrödinger operator $H_{p}=\frac 1pΔ^{L^p\otimes E}+V$ on tensor powers $L^p$ of a Hermitian line bundle $L$ twisted by a Hermitian vector bundle $E$ on a Riemannian manifold of bounded geometry is studied. For any function $φ\in \mathcal S(\mathbb R)$, we consider the bounded linear operator $φ(H_p)$ in $L^2(X,L^p\otimes E)$ defined by the spectral theorem and describe an asymptotic expansion of its smooth Schwartz kernel in a fixed neighborhood of the diagonal in the semiclassical limit $p\to \infty$. In particular, we prove that the trace of the operator $φ(H_p)$ admits a compl…
We briefly review the solution of three ensembles of non-Hermitian random matrices generalizing the Wishart-Laguerre (also called chiral) ensembles. These generalizations are realized as Gaussian two-matrix models, where the complex eigenvalues of the product of the two independent rectangular matrices are sought, with the matrix elements of both matrices being either real, complex or quaternion real. We also present the more general case depending on a non-Hermiticity parameter, that allows us to interpolate between the corresponding three Hermitian Wishart ensembles with real eigenvalues and…
