This is a companion to recent papers of the authors; here we construct the `noncommutative Shilov boundary' of a (possibly nonunital) selfadjoint ordered space of Hilbert space operators. The morphisms in the universal property of the boundary preserve order. As an application, we consider `maximal' and `minimal' unitizations of such ordered operator spaces.

Involutive operator algebras

Examples of operator algebras with involution include the operator $*$-algebras occurring in noncommutative differential geometry studied recently by Mesland, Kaad, Lesch, and others, several classical function algebras, triangular matrix algebras, (complexifications) of real operator algebras, and an operator algebraic version of the {\em complex symmetric} operators studied by Garcia, Putinar, Wogen and others. We investigate the general theory of involutive operator algebras, and give many applications.

Super Operator Systems, Strong Norms, and Operator Tensor Products

Matrix Ordered Operator Algebras

We study the question when for a given *-algebra $\mathcal{A}$ a sequence of cones $C_n\in M_n(\mathcal{A})$ can be realized as cones of positive operators in a faithful *-representation of $\mathcal{A}$ on a Hilbert space. A characterization of operator algebras which are completely boundedly isomorphic to $C\sp*$-algebras is presented.

HNN extensions of quasi-lattice ordered groups and their operator algebras

The Baumslag-Solitar group is an example of an HNN extension. Spielberg showed that it has a natural positive cone, and that it is then a quasi-lattice ordered group in the sense of Nica. We give conditions for an HNN extension of a quasi-lattice ordered group $(G,P)$ to be quasi-lattice ordered. In that case, if $(G,P)$ is amenable as a quasi-lattice ordered group, then so is the HNN extension.

Matrix-ordered Duals of Operator Systems and Projective Limits

We construct projective limit of projective sequence in the following categories: Archimedean order unit spaces with unital positive maps and operator systems with unital completely positive maps. We prove that inductive limit and projective limit in these categories are in duality, provided that the dual objects remain in the same categories and the maps are order embeddings. We generalize a result of Choi and Effros on matrix-ordered duals of finite-dimensional operator systems to separable case.

Characterizations of Ordered Self-adjoint Operator Spaces

We describe how self-adjoint ordered operator spaces, also called non-unital operator systems in the literature, can be understood as $*$-vector spaces equipped with a matrix gauge structure. We explain how this perspective has several advantages over other notions of non-unital operator systems in the literature. Operator system structures on ordered spaces

Given an Archimedean order unit space (V,V^+,e), we construct a minimal operator system OMIN(V) and a maximal operator system OMAX(V), which are the analogues of the minimal and maximal operator spaces of a normed space. We develop some of the key properties of these operator systems and make some progress on characterizing when an operator system S is completely boundedly isomorphic to either OMIN(S) or to OMAX(S). Characterizations of ordered operator spaces

We demonstrate new abstract characterizations for unital and non-unital operator spaces. We characterize unital operator spaces in terms of the cone of accretive operators (operators whose real part is positive). Defining the gauge of an operator $T \in B(H)$ to be $\|Re(T)_+\|$, we demonstrate an abstract characterization of operator spaces up to complete gauge-isometry. Equivalence of Order and Algebraic Properties in Ordered *-Algebras

The aim of this article is to describe a class of *-algebras that allows to treat well-behaved algebras of unbounded operators independently of a representation. C*-envelopes of semicrossed products by lattice ordered abelian semigroups

A semicrossed product is a non-selfadjoint operator algebra encoding the action of a semigroup on an operator or C*-algebra. We prove that, when the positive cone of a discrete lattice ordered abelian group acts on a C*-algebra, the C*-envelope of the associated semicrossed product is a full corner of a crossed product by the whole group.
