We show that any single-mode quantum state can be generated from the vacuum by alternate application of the coherent displacement operator and the creation operator. We propose an experimental implementation of the scheme for traveling optical fields, which is based on field mixings and conditional measurements in a beam splitter array, and calculate the probability of state generation.

We theoretically propose a method for on-demand generation of traveling Schrödinger cat states, namely, quantum superpositions of distinct coherent states of traveling fields. This method is based on deterministic generation of intracavity cat states using a Kerr-nonlinear parametric oscillator (KPO) via quantum adiabatic evolution. We show that the cat states generated inside a KPO can be released into an output mode by controlling the parametric pump amplitude dynamically. We further show that the quality of the traveling cat states can be improved by using a shortcut-to-adiabaticity techniq…
We derive an equivalent traveling wave form description for Dirac field. In the non-relativistic limit, such form can reduce to inverse-Galilean transformed Schrodinger-type equation. We find that, the resulting two-component Schrodinger-type equation from the reduction of traveling wave form description of Dirac field is different to the naive Galilean transformed Schrodinger equation. Taking into account the interactions of the system to electromagnetic field by adding proper forms of covariant derivative, the traveling wave form description for Pauli equation can be similarly obtained in th…
In this paper, we propose a simplified model of optical Stern-Gerlach effect based on coherent coupling between clock transition of alkaline-earth single atoms and a traveling-wave light. It is demonstrated that spin-orbit coupling induced chiral motion in atom deflection appears under the strong atom-light interaction. The strong optical driving removes perturbation from the Doppler effect and back action effect to access the coherent system. In this process, superposition of distant matter waves connected to the arbitrary distribution of atom internal state could be predicted, which is impor…
Traveling wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs) have recently emerged as essential tools for broadband near quantum-limited amplification. However, their use to generate microwave quantum states still misses an experimental demonstration. In this letter, we report operation of a TWPA as a source of two-mode squeezed microwave radiation. We demonstrate broadband entanglement generation between two modes separated by up to 400 MHz by measuring logarithmic negativity between 0.27 and 0.51 and collective quadrature squeezing below the vacuum limit between 1.5 and 2.1 dB. This work opens interesting p…

Quantum-limited microwave parametric amplifiers are genuine key pillars for rising quantum technologies and in general for applications that rely on the successful readout of weak microwave signals by adding only the minimum amount of noise allowed by quantum mechanics. In this perspective, after providing a brief overview on the different families of parametric microwave amplifiers, we focus on traveling wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs), underlining the key achievements of the last years and the present open challenges. We discuss also possible new research directions beyond amplification s…
We introduce a method for the conditional generation of nonclassical states of light in a cavity. We consider two-level atoms traveling along the transverse direction to the cavity axis and show that by conditioning on one of the output measurements nonclassical field states are generated. The two-level atoms are prepared in the ground state and we conditioned on the events in which they are also detected in the ground state. Nonclassical properties of the cavity mode are identified and characterized. This includes: quadrature squeezing, sub-Poissonian photon-number distributions, and negative…
Josephson meta-materials have recently emerged as very promising platform for superconducting quantum science and technologies. Their distinguishing potential resides in ability to engineer them at sub-wavelength scales, which allows complete control over wave dispersion and nonlinear interaction. In this article we report a versatile Josephson transmission line with strong third order nonlinearity which can be tuned from positive to negative values, and suppressed second order non linearity. As an initial implementation of this multipurpose meta-material, we operate it to demonstrate reversed…
Simultaneous ideal quantum measurements of multiple single-photon-level signals would advance applications in quantum information processing, metrology, and astronomy, but require the first amplifier to be simultaneously broadband, quantum limited, and directional. However, conventional traveling-wave parametric amplifiers support broadband amplification at the cost of increased added noise and are not genuinely directional due to non-negligible nonlinear backward wave generation. In this work, we introduce a new class of amplifiers which encode the information in the Floquet modes of the syst…
Noise at the quantum limit over a large bandwidth is a fundamental requirement for future applications operating at millikelvin temperatures, such as the neutrino mass measurement, the next-generation x-ray observatory, the CMB measurement, the dark matter and axion detection, and the rapid high-fidelity readout of superconducting qubits. The read out sensitivity of arrays of microcalorimeter detectors, resonant axion-detectors, and qubits, is currently limited by the noise temperature and bandwidth of the cryogenic amplifiers. The DARTWARS (Detector Array Readout with Traveling Wave AmplifieR…
We propose a universal and nontrivial scheme to transmit and generate an arbitrary W state for multiple cavities via an optomechanical interface. In transmission and generation processes, high fidelity can be obtained by optimizing the time-dependent coupling strengths between the cavities and the mechanical resonator. With a group of optimal couplings, an arbitrary entangled W state in the multipartite system can be mapped to the pulse shape of a single photon and transmitted out of the system. In the time reversal process, an arbitrary W state can be generated with an incident single photon …
The squeezed state is important in quantum metrology and quantum information. The most effective generation tool known is the optical parametric oscillator (OPO). Currently, only the squeezed states of lower-order spatial modes can be generated by an OPO. However, the squeezed states of higher-order complex spatial modes are more useful for applications such as quantum metrology, quantum imaging and quantum information. A major challenge for future applications is efficient generation. Here, we use cascaded phase-only spatial light modulators to modulate the amplitude and phase of the incident…
We present a recursive procedure, which is based on the small time expansion of the propagator, in order to generate a semi-classical expansion of the \textit{quantum action} for a quantum mechanical potential in arbitrary dimensions. In the method we use the spectral information emerges from the singularities of the propagator on the complex $t$ plane, which are handled by the $i\ve$ prescription and basic complex analysis. This feature allows for generalization to higher dimensions. We illustrate the procedure by providing simple examples in non-relativistic quantum mechanics.
