In this paper it was proved that the quantum relative entropy $D(σ\| ρ)$ can be asymptotically attained by Kullback Leibler divergences of probabilities given by a certain sequence of POVMs. The sequence of POVMs depends on $ρ$, but is independent of the choice of $σ$.
We apply the method of shortcuts to adiabaticity to nonequilibrium systems. For unitary dynamics, the system Hamiltonian is separated into two parts. One of them defines the adiabatic states for the state to follow and the nonadiabatic transitions are prevented by the other part. This property is implemented to the nonequilibrium entropy production and we find that the entropy is separated into two parts. The separation represents the Pythagorean theorem for the Kullback-Leibler divergence and an information-geometric interpretation is obtained. We also study a lower bound of the entropy, whic…
The entanglement entropy has been historically studied by many authors in order to obtain quantum mechanical interpretations of the gravitational entropy. The discovery of AdS/CFT correspondence leads to the idea of holographic entanglement entropy, which is a clear solution to this important problem in gravity. In this article, we would like to give a quick survey of recent progresses on the holographic entanglement entropy. We focus on its gravitational aspects, so that it is comprehensible to those who are familiar with general relativity and basics of quantum field theory.
We propose a definition of the asymptotic phase for quantum nonlinear oscillators from the viewpoint of the Koopman operator theory. The asymptotic phase is a fundamental quantity for the analysis of classical limit-cycle oscillators, but it has not been defined explicitly for quantum nonlinear oscillators. In this study, we define the asymptotic phase for quantum oscillatory systems by using the eigenoperator of the backward Liouville operator associated with the fundamental oscillation frequency. By using the quantum van der Pol oscillator with Kerr effect as an example, we illustrate that t…
The Markovian evolution of an open quantum system is characterized by a positive entropy production, while the global entropy gets redistributed between the system and the environment degrees of freedom. Starting from these premises, we analyze the entropy variation of an open quantum system in terms of two distinct relations: the Clausius inequality, that provides an intrinsic bound for the entropy variation in terms of the heat absorbed by the system, and an extrinsic inequality, which instead relates the former to the corresponding entropy increment of the environment. By modeling the therm…
The Tsallis and Rényi entropies are important quantities in the information theory, statistics and related fields because the Tsallis entropy is an one parameter generalization of the Shannon entropy and the Rényi entropy includes several useful entropy measures such as the Shannon entropy, Min-entropy and so on, as special choices of its parameter. On the other hand, the discrete-time quantum walk plays important roles in various applications, for example, quantum speed-up algorithm and universal computation. In this paper, we show limiting behaviors of the Tsallis and Rényi entropies for dis…
We show that known entropy bounds constrain the information carried off by radiation to null infinity. We consider distant, planar null hypersurfaces in asymptotically flat spacetime. Their focussing and area loss can be computed perturbatively on a Minkowski background, yielding entropy bounds in terms of the energy flux of the outgoing radiation. In the asymptotic limit, we obtain boundary versions of the Quantum Null Energy Condition, of the Generalized Second Law, and of the Quantum Bousso Bound.
In this work we study the entanglement entropy of a uniform quantum Ising chain in transverse field undergoing a periodic driving of period $τ$ . By means of Floquet theory we show that, for any subchain, the entanglement entropy tends asymptotically to a value $τ$ - periodic in time. We provide a semi-analytical formula for the leading term of this asymptotic regime: It is constant in time and obeys a volume law. The entropy in the asymptotic regime is always smaller than the thermal one: because of integrability the system locally relaxes to a Generalized Gibbs Ensemble (GGE) density matrix.…
We study the von Neumann entropy asymptotics of pure translation-invariant quasi-free states of d-dimensional fermionic systems. It is shown that the entropic area law is violated by all these states: apart from the trivial cases, the entropy of a cubic subsystem with edge length L cannot grow slower than L^{d-1}ln L. As for the upper bound of the entropy asymptotics, the zero-entropy-density property of these pure states is the only limit: it is proven that arbitrary fast sub-L^d entropy growth is achievable.
We consider the entanglement entropy for a line segment in the system of noninteracting one-dimensional fermions at zero temperature. In the limit of a large segment length L, the leading asymptotic behavior of this entropy is known to be logarithmic in L. We study finite-size corrections to this asymptotic behavior. Based on an earlier conjecture of the asymptotic expansion for full counting statistics in the same system, we derive a full asymptotic expansion for the von Neumann entropy and obtain first several corrections for the Renyi entropies. Our corrections for the Renyi entropies repro…
In this work we study the entropy of the Gibbs state corresponding to a graph. The Gibbs state is obtained from the Laplacian, normalized Laplacian or adjacency matrices associated with a graph. We calculated the entropy of the Gibbs state for a few classes of graphs and studied their behavior with changing graph order and temperature. We illustrate our analytical results with numerical simulations for Erdős-Rényi, Watts-Strogatz, Barabási-Albert and Chung-Lu graph models and a few real-world graphs. Our results show that the behavior of Gibbs entropy as a function of the temperature differs f…
Quantum coherence is the most distinguished signature of quantum mechanics, also recognized to be an essential resource for many promising quantum technologies, playing a central role in phenomena related to quantum information science, quantum thermodynamics and quantum biology, just to mention few examples. However, the resource theory of coherence is in the preliminary stage of its development, being still limited to the study of the manipulation and quantification of coherence, mostly from a theoretical viewpoint. Here, we propose an experimental method to directly measure the relative ent…
We obtain a classical analog of the quantum covariance matrix by performing its classical approximation for any continuous quantum state, and we illustrate this approach with the anharmonic oscillator. Using this classical covariance matrix, we propose classical analogs of the purity, linear quantum entropy, and von Neumann entropy for classical integrable systems, when the quantum counterpart of the system under consideration is in a Gaussian state. As is well known, this matrix completely characterizes the purity, linear quantum entropy, and von Neumann entropy for Gaussian states. These cla…
