We study the tunneling through an oscillating delta barrier. Using time periodicity of the model, the time-dependent Schrödinger equation is reduced to a simple but infinite matrix equation. Employing Toeplitz matrices methods, the infinite matrix is replaces by a $3\times 3$ matrix, allowing an analytical solution. Looking at the frequency dependence of the transmissionamplitudes, one observes a new time scale which dominates the tunneling dynamics. This time scale differs from the one previously introduced by Büttiker and Landauer. The relation between these two is discussed.
A new semiclassical approach to ionization by an oscillating field is presented. For a delta-function atom, an asymptotic analysis is performed with respect to a quantity h, defined as the ratio of photon energy to ponderomotive energy. This h appears formally equivalent to Planck's constant in a suitably transformed Schroedinger equation and allows semiclassical methods to be applicable. Systematically, a picture of tunneling wave packets in complex time is developped, which by interference account for the typical ponderomotive features of ionization curves. These analytical results are then …
We predict that an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate strongly coupled to an intracavity optical lattice can undergo resonant tunneling and directed transport when a constant and uniform bias force is applied. The bias force induces Bloch oscillations, causing amplitude and phase modulation of the lattice which resonantly modifies the site-to-site tunneling. For the right choice of parameters a net atomic current is generated. The transport velocity can be oriented oppositely to the bias force, with its amplitude and direction controlled by the detuning between the pump laser and the cavity. The …
New time-dependent treatment of tunneling from localized state to continuum is proposed. It does not use the Laplace transform (Green's function's method) and can be applied for time-dependent potentials, as well. This approach results in simple expressions describing dynamics of tunneling to Markovian and non-Markovian reservoirs in the time-interval $-\infty<t<\infty$. It can provide a new outlook for tunneling in the negative time region, illuminating the origin of the time's arrow problem in quantum mechanics. We also concentrate on singularity at $t=0$, which affects the perturbative expa…
In this work, we study the $ U(1)/Z_2 $ Dicke model at a finite $ N $ by using the $ 1/J $ expansion and exact diagonization. This model includes the four standard quantum optics model as its various special limits. The $ 1/J $ expansions is complementary to the strong coupling expansion used by the authors in arXiv:1512.08581 to study the same model in its dual $ Z_2/U(1) $ representation. We identify 3 regimes of the system's energy levels: the normal, $ U(1) $ and quantum tunneling (QT) regime. The system's energy levels are grouped into doublets which consist of scattering states and Schro…
We investigate numerically parametrically driven coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations modelling the dynamics of coupled wavefields in a periodically oscillating double-well potential. The equations describe among other things two coupled periodically-curved optical waveguides with Kerr nonlinearity or horizontally shaken Bose-Einstein condensates in a double-well magnetic trap. In particular, we study the persistence of equilibrium states of the undriven system due to the presence of the parametric drive. Using numerical continuations of periodic orbits and calculating the corresponding Flo…

We study the Goos-Hänchen (GH) shifts for transmitted Dirac fermions in gapped graphene through a single barrier structure having a time periodic oscillating component. Our analysis shows that the GH shifts in transmission for central band $l=0$ and two first sidebands $l=\pm1$ change sign at the Dirac points $E=V+l\hbarω$. In particular the GH shifts inbtransmission exhibit enhanced peaks at each bound state associated with the single barrier when the incident angle is less than the critical angle associated with total reflection. Klein tunneling, reflected by perfect transmission at normal i…
We study the short-time and medium-time behavior of the survival probability in the frame of the $N$-level Friedrichs model. The time evolution of an arbitrary unstable initial state is determined. We show that the survival probability may oscillate significantly during the so-called exponential era. This result explains qualitatively the experimental observations of the NaI decay.
The time dependent entropy (or Leipnik's entropy) of harmonic and damped harmonic oscillators is extensively investigated by using time dependent wave function obtained by the Feynman path integral method. Our results for simple harmonic oscillator are in agrement with the literature. However, the joint entropy of damped harmonic oscillator shows remarkable discontinuity with time for certain values of damping factor. According to the results, the envelop of the joint entropy curve increases with time monotonically. This results is the general properties of the envelop of the joint entropy cur…
We explore the dynamics of relativistic quantum waves in a potential step by using an exact solution to the Klein-Gordon equation with a point source initial condition. We show that in both the propagation, and Klein-tunneling regimes, the Zitterbewegung effect manifests itself as a series of quantum beats of the particle density in the long-time limit. We demonstrate that the beating phenomenon is characterized by the Zitterbewegung frequency, and that the amplitude of these oscillations decays as $t^{-3/2}$. We show that beating effect also manifests itself in the free Klein-Gordon and Dirac…
We introduce a time-dependent perturbation method to calculate the number of created particles in a 1D cavity with an oscillating wall of the frequency $Ω. $ This method makes it easy to find the dominant part of the solution which results from the parametric resonance. The maximal number of particles are created at the mode frequency $Ω/2 . $ Using the Floquet theory, we discuss the long-time behavior of the particle creation.
Decay laws of moving unstable quantum systems with oscillating decay rates are analyzed over intermediate times. The transformations of the decay laws at rest and of the intermediate times at rest, which are induced by the change of reference frame, are obtained by decomposing the modulus of the survival amplitude at rest into purely exponential and exponentially damped oscillating modes. The mass distribution density is considered to be approximately symmetric with respect to the mass of resonance. Under determined conditions, the modal decay widths at rest, $Γ_j$, and the modal frequencies o…
Tunneling of spinless electrons from a single-channel emitter into an empty collector through an interacting resonant level of the quantum dot (QD) is studied, when all Coulomb screening of charge variations on the dot is realized by the emitter channel and the system is mapped onto an exactly solvable model of a dissipative qubit. In this model we describe the qubit density matrix evolution with a generalized Lindblad equation, which permit us to count the tunneling electrons and therefore relate the qubit dynamics to the charge transfer statistics. In particular, the coefficients of its gene…

Transmission probabilities of Dirac fermions in graphene under linear barrier potential oscillating in time are investigated. Solving Dirac equation we end up with the solutions of the energy spectrum depending on several modes coming from the oscillations. These will be used to obtain a transfer matrix that allows to determine transmission amplitudes of all modes. Due to numerical difficulties in truncating the resulting coupled channel equations, we limit ourselves to low quantum channels, i.e. $l = 0, \pm1$, and study the three corresponding transmission probabilities.
We determine the relevant spinor valued wave functions for a two-dimensional quantum ring in the presence of Rashba-type spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The case of constant SOI strength is considered first, then we investigate the physical consequences of time-dependent (oscillating) SOI strength. Floquet's method is applied to find time-dependent eigenspinors, and it is shown that the Floquet quasienergies and thus their differences (the generalized Rabi frequencies) are determined by the radial boundary conditions. Time evolution of various initial states is calculated.
The classical and quantum dynamics in a high frequency field are found to be described by an effective time independent Hamiltonian. It is calculated in a systematic expansion in the inverse of the frequency ($ω$) to order $ω^{-4}$. The work is an extension of the classical result for the Kapitza pendulum, which was calculated in the past to order $ω^{-2}$. The analysis makes use of an implementation of the method of separation of time scales and of a quantum gauge transformation in the framework of Floquet theory. The effective time independent Hamiltonian enables one to explore the dynamics …
A novel method and nanodevice are introduced that allows to rotate the single electron spin confined in a gated electrostatic InSb nanowire quantum dot. Proposed method does not require application of any (oscillating or static) external magnetic fields. Our proposal instead employs spatial and time modulation of confining potential induced by electric gates, which, in turn leads to oscillating Rashba type spin-orbit coupling. Moving electron back and forth in such a variable Rashba field allows for realization of spin rotations around two different axes separately without using an external ma…
