On the quantum probability flux through surfaces

We remark that the often ignored quantum probability current is fundamental for a genuine understanding of scattering phenomena and, in particular, for the statistics of the time and position of the first exit of a quantum particle from a given region, which may be simply expressed in terms of the current. This simple formula for these statistics does not appear as such in the literature. It is proposed that the formula, which is very different from the usual quantum mechanical measurement formulas, be verified experimentally. A full understanding of the quantum current and the associated formula is provided by Bohmian mechanics.

Flux Continuity and Probability Conservation in Complexified Bohmian Mechanics

Recent years have seen increased interest in complexified Bohmian mechanical trajectory calculations for quantum systems, both as a pedagogical and computational tool. On the Flux-Across-Surfaces Theorem

The quantum probability flux of a particle integrated over time and a distant surface gives the probability for the particle crossing that surface at some time. We prove the free Flux-Across-Surfaces Theorem, which was conjectured by Combes, Newton and Shtokhamer, and which relates the integrated quantum flux to the usual quantum mechanical formula for the cross section. The integrated quantum flux is equal to the probability of outward crossings of surfaces by Bohmian trajectories in the scattering regime.

Equivalence between quantum backflow and classically forbidden probability flow in a diffraction-in-time problem

Quantum backflow is an interference effect in which a matter-wave packet comprised of only plane waves with non-negative momenta exhibits negative probability flux. Here we show that this effect is mathematically equivalent to the appearance of classically-forbidden probability flux when a matter-wave packet, initially confined to a semi-infinite line, expands in free space.

Extending the Concept of Probability Flux

We develop the Husimi map for visualizing quantum wavefunctions using coherent states as a measurement of the local phase space to produce a vector field related to the probability flux. Adapted from the Husimi projection, the Husimi map is complimentary to the usual flux map, since they are identical for small coherent states. Quantum Flux and Reverse Engineering of Quantum Wavefunctions

An interpretation of the probability flux is given, based on a derivation of its eigenstates and relating them to coherent state projections on a quantum wavefunction. An extended definition of the flux operator is obtained using coherent states. We present a "processed Husimi" representation, which makes decisions using many Husimi projections at each location. The angular momentum of electron radiation in a uniform magnetic field

We study theoretically by means of quantum electrodynamics the vortex radiation of a relativistic electron in a uniform magnetic field. The exact expressions for the probability of emission of a photon with a certain angular momentum are found. The hybrid surface flux method for the ionization amplitude extraction from the calculated wavefunction

A method is proposed for extracting ionization amplitudes from the solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) describing a system in a time-dependent external field.
