This Dissertation collects my results on the interpretation, characterization, quantification and application of bipartite and multipartite entanglement in Gaussian states of continuous variable systems.
This dissertation collects results about witnessing multipartite entanglement in critical spin systems and free-fermion models both at zero and finite temperature.
We determine the maximum squashed entanglement achievable between sender and receiver of the noiseless quantum Gaussian attenuators and amplifiers and we prove that it is achieved sending half of an infinitely squeezed two-mode vacuum state. The key ingredient of the proof is a lower bound to the squashed entanglement of the quantum Gaussian states obtained applying a two-mode squeezing operation to a quantum thermal Gaussian state tensored with the vacuum state. This is the first lower bound to the squashed entanglement of a quantum Gaussian state and opens the way to determine the squashed e…
One of the key manifestations of quantum mechanics is the phenomenon of quantum entanglement. While the entanglement of bipartite systems is already well understood, our knowledge of entanglement in multipartite systems is still limited. This dissertation covers various aspects of the quantification of entanglement in multipartite states and the role of symmetry in such systems. Firstly, we establish a connection between the classification of multipartite entanglement and knot theory and investigate the family of states that are resistant to particle loss. Furthermore, we construct several exa…
For disordered harmonic oscillator systems over the $d$-dimensional lattice, we consider the problem of finding the bipartite entanglement of the uniform ensemble of the energy eigenstates associated with a particular number of modes. Such ensemble define a class of mixed, non-Gaussian entangled states that are labeled, by the energy of the system, in an increasing order. We develop a novel approach to find the exact logarithmic negativity of this class of states. We also prove entanglement bounds and demonstrate that the low energy states follow an area law.
We consider ensembles of bipartite states resulting from a random passive Gaussian unitary applied to a fiducial pure Gaussian state. We show that the symplectic spectra of the reduced density operators concentrate around that of a thermal state with the same energy. This implies, in particular, concentration of the entanglement entropy as well as other entropy measures. Our work extends earlier results on the typicality of entanglement beyond the two ensembles and the reduced purity measure considered in [A. Serafini, O. C. O. Dahlsten, D. Gross, and M. B. Plenio, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor., 40…
Simplified scheme for continuous-variable entanglement distillation: multicopy distillation of Gaussian entanglement without heralding Gaussian measurements
Entanglement of formation is a fundamental measure that quantifies the entanglement of bipartite quantum states. This measure has recently been extended into multipartite states taking the name $α$-entanglement of formation. In this work, we follow an analogous multipartite extension for the Gaussian version of entanglement of formation, and focusing on the the finest partition of a multipartite Gaussian state we show this measure is fully additive and computable for 3-mode Gaussian states.

We develop an entanglement criterion with third- and fourth-order cumulants to detect the entanglement of non-Gaussian states. The efficiency of the entanglement criterion is investigated for gravitating mirrors in optomechanical systems. We show that the entangled regime of the mirrors is enlarged by the third- and fourth-order cumulants. We also discuss the limitations of the entanglement criterion for mirrors in a highly non-Gaussian state.
The notion of partial trace of a density operator is essential for the understanding of the entanglement and separability properties of quantum states. In this paper we investigate these notions putting an emphasis on the geometrical properties of the covariance ellipsoids of the reduced states. We thereafter focus on Gaussian states and we give new and easily numerically implementable sufficient conditions for the separability of all Gaussian states. Unlike the positive partial transposition criterion, none of these conditions is however necessary.
The local uncertainty relation (LUR) criteria for quantum entanglement, which is dependent on chosen observables, is developed recent. In the paper, applying the uncertainty principle, an entanglement criteria for multipartite Gaussian states is given, which is implemented by a minimum optimization computer program and independent on observalbes.
In the paper, we give a characterization of arbitrary $n$-mode Gaussian coherence breaking channels (GCBCs) and show the tensor product of a GCBC and arbitrary a Gaussian channel maps all input states into product states. The inclusion relation among GCBCs, Gaussian positive partial transpose channels (GPPTC), entanglement breaking channels (GEBC) and Gaussian classical-quantum channels (GCQC) is displayed. Finally, we prove that Gaussian classical ($χ$-) capacity for the tensor products of GCBCs and arbitrary Gaussian channels is additive.
We propose a method to witness entanglement between two continuous-variable systems in a Gaussian state. Its key ingredient is a local lossy state transfer from the original spatially separated systems onto two spatially separated qubits. The qubits are initially in a pure product state, therefore by detecting entanglement between the qubits we witness entanglement between the two original systems. This method greatly simplifies entanglement witnessing in complex systems.
Triple-photon states generated by three-mode spontaneous parametric down-conversion are the paradigm of unconditional non-Gaussian states, essential assets for quantum advantage. How to fully characterize their non-Gaussian entanglement remains however elusive. We propose here a hierarchy of sufficient and necessary conditions for separability of the broad family of spontaneously-generated three-mode non-Gaussian states. We further derive state-of-the-art conditions for genuine tripartite non-Gaussian entanglement, the strongest class of entanglement. We apply our criteria to triple-photon sta…
