Quantum correlations between bright pump, signal, and idler beams produced by an optical parametric oscillator, all with different frequencies, are experimentally demonstrated. We show that the degree of entanglement between signal and idler fields is improved by using information of pump fluctuations. This is the first observation of three-color optical quantum correlations.
We propose a two-color scheme of atom guide and 1D optical lattice using evanescent light fields of different transverse modes. The optical waveguide carries a red-detuned light and a blue-detuned light, with both modes far from resonance. The atom guide and 1D optical lattice potentials can be transformed to each other by using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer to accurately control mode transformation. This might provide a new approach to realize flexible transition between the guiding and trapping states of atoms.
We demonstrate that Kerr nonlinearity in optical circuits can lead to both resonant four-wave mixing and photon blockade, which can be used for high-yield generation of high-fidelity individual photon pairs with conjugated frequencies. We propose an optical circuit, which, in the optimal pulsed-drive regime, would produce photon pairs at the rate up to $10^5s^{-1}$ (0.5 pairs per pulse) with $g^{(2)}<10^{-2}$ for one of the conjugated frequencies. We show that such a scheme can be utilised to generate color-entangled photons.
A new device to generate polarization-entangled light in the continuous variable regime is introduced. It consists of an Optical Parametric Oscillator with two type-II phase-matched non-linear crystals orthogonally oriented, associated with birefringent elements for adjustable linear coupling. We give in this paper a theoretical study of its classical and quantum properties. It is shown that two optical beams with adjustable frequencies and well-defined polarization can be emitted. The Stokes parameters of the two beams are entangled. The principal advantage of this setup is the possibility to…
We report a versatile method to efficiently polarize single nuclear spins in diamond, which is based on optical pumping of a single NV color center and mediated by a level-anti crossing in its excited state. A nuclear spin polarization higher than 98% is achieved at room temperature for the 15N nuclear spin associated to the NV center, corresponding to $μ$K effective nuclear spin temperature. We then show simultaneous deterministic initialization of two nuclear spins (13C and 15N) in close vicinity to a NV defect. Such robust control of nuclear spin states is a key ingredient for further scali…
A dynamic quantum control of three-color lights in an optically dense medium is presented. We discuss how effectively to stop traveling three-color light pulses in the medium by using three control laser fields at near resonant transitions satisfying electromagnetically induced transparency. This opens a door to the quantum coherent control of multiple traveling light pulses for quantum memory and quantum switching, which are essential components in multi-party quantum optical communications.
Color centers in hexagonal boron nitride have shown enormous promise as single-photon sources, but a clear understanding of electron-phonon interaction dynamics is critical to their development for quantum communications or quantum simulations. We demonstrate photon antibunching in the filtered auto- and cross-correlations $g^{(2)}_{lm}(τ)$ between zero-, one- and two-phonon replicas of defect luminescence. Moreover, we combine autocorrelation measurements with a violation of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality in the filtered cross-correlation measurements to distinguish a low quantum-efficiency de…
Multi-color entangled states of light including low-loss optical fiber transmission and atomic resonance frequencies are essential resources for future quantum information network. We present the experimental achievement on the three-color entanglement generation at 852 nm, 1550 nm and 1440 nm wavelengths for optical continuous variables. The entanglement generation system consists of two cascaded non-degenerated optical parametric oscillators (NOPOs). The flexible selectivity of nonlinear crystals in the two NOPOs and the tunable property of NOPO provide large freedom for the frequency select…
We experimentally investigate quadrature correlations between pump, signal, and idler fields in an above-threshold optical parametric oscillator. We observe new quantum correlations among the pump and signal or idler beams, as well as among the pump and a combined quadrature of signal and idler beams. A further investigation of unforeseen classical noise observed in this system is presented, which hinders the observation of the recently predicted tripartite entanglement. In spite of this noise, current results approach the limit required to demonstrate three-color entanglement.
An outstanding challenge for color center-based quantum information processing technologies is the integration of optically-coherent emitters into scalable thin-film photonics. Here, we report on the integration of near-transform-limited silicon vacancy (V$_{\text{Si}}$) defects into microdisk resonators fabricated in a CMOS-compatible 4H-Silicon Carbide-on-Insulator platform. We demonstrate a single-emitter cooperativity of up to 0.8 as well as optical superradiance from a pair of color centers coupled to the same cavity mode. We investigate the effect of multimode interference on the photon …
We study quantum frequency translation and two-color photon interference enabled by the Bragg scattering four-wave mixing process in optical fiber. Using realistic model parameters, we computationally and analytically determine the Green function and Schmidt modes for cases with various pump-pulse lengths. These cases can be categorized as either "non-discriminatory" or "discriminatory" in regards to their propensity to exhibit high-efficiency translation or high-visibility two-photon interference for many different shapes of input wave packets or for only a few input wave packets, respectivel…
Fluoride crystals doped with rare-earth ions (REI) and pair centers in diamond for fast ($10^{-9}\rm{s}$) quantum computers (FQC) are proposed. As specific systems for REI doping, we propose $Ca_{1-x}Sr_{x}F_{2}$ crystals and their analogues. The $^{4}f$-states with different total orbital angular moments of these ions serve as two-level systems (qubits). Suitable REIs are proposed as well. It is established that the pair $SiV$ and $GeV$ centers in diamond are promising systems for fast optical quantum computers operating at elevated temperatures.
Scalable quantum photonic networks require coherent excitation of quantum emitters. However, many solid-state systems can undergo a transition to a dark shelving state that inhibits the fluorescence. Here we demonstrate that a controlled gating using a weak non-resonant laser, the resonant excitation can be recovered and amplified for single germanium vacancies (GeVs). Employing the gated resonance excitation, we achieve optically stable resonance fluorescence of GeV centers. Our results are pivotal for the deployment of diamond color centers as reliable building blocks for scalable solid stat…
A common limitation of experiments using color centers in diamond is the poor photon collection efficiency of microscope objectives due to refraction at the diamond interface. We present a simple and effective technique to detect a large fraction of photons emitted by color centers within a planar diamond sample by detecting light that is guided to the edges of the diamond via total internal reflection. We describe a prototype device using this "side-collection" technique, which provides a photon collection efficiency of approximately 47% and a photon detection efficiency of approximately 39%.…
Single color centers in solid have emerged as promising physical platforms for quantum information science. Creating these centers with excellent quantum properties is a key foundation for further technological developments. In particular, the microscopic understanding of the spin bath environments is the key to engineer color centers for quantum control. In this work, we propose and demonstrate a distinct high-temperature annealing (HTA) approach for creating high-quality nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in implantation-free diamonds. Simultaneously using the created NV centers as probes for the…
We report the experimental observation of strong two-color optical nonlinearity in an ultracold gas of $^{85}\mathrm{Rb}$-$^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ atom mixture. By simultaneously coupling two probe transitions of $^{85}$Rb and $^{87}$Rb atoms to Rydberg states in electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) configurations, we observe significant suppression of the transparency resonance for one probe field when the second probe field is detuned at $\sim1~\mathrm{GHz}$ and hitting the EIT resonance of the other isotope. Such a cross-absorption modulation to the beam propagation dynamics can be desc…
We address dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) loaded into a one-dimensional four-color optical lattice (FOL) potential with commensurate wavelengths and tunable intensities. This configuration lends system-specific symmetry properties. The analysis identifies specific multi-parameter forms of the FOL potential which admits exact solitary-wave solutions. This newly found class of potentials includes more particular species, such as frustrated double-well superlattices, and bi-chromatic and three-color lattices, which are subject to respective symmetry constraints. Our exact solutions …
Two-color second-order correlations of the light scattered near-resonantly by a quantum dot were measured by means of spectrally-filtered coincidence detection. The effects of filter frequency and bandwidth were studied under monochromatic laser excitation, and a complete two-photon spectrum was reconstructed. In contrast to the ordinary one-photon spectrum, the two-photon spectrum is asymmetric with laser detuning and exhibits a rich structure associated with both real and virtual two-photon transitions down the "dressed states" ladder. Photon pairs generated via virtual transitions are found…
Group-IV -- Vacancy color centers in diamond are fast emerging qubits that can be harnessed in quantum communication and sensor applications. There is an immediate quest for understanding their magneto-optical properties, in order to select the appropriate qubits for varying needs of particular quantum applications. Here we present results from cutting edge \emph{ab initio} calculations about the charge state stability, zero-phonon-line energies, spin-orbit and electron-phonon couplings for Group-IV -- Vacancy color centers. Based on the analysis of our results, we develop a novel spin Hamilto…
Isolated, micro-meter sized diamonds are grown by micro-wave plasma chemical vapour deposition technique on Si(001) substrates. Each diamond is uniquely identified by markers milled in the Si substrate by Ga+ focused ion beam. The morphology and micrograin structure analysis indicates that the diamonds are icosahedral or bi-crystals. Icosahedral diamonds have higher (up to $σ_\mathrm{h}$ = 2.3 GPa), and wider distribution ($Δσ_\mathrm{h}$ = 4.47 GPa) of hydrostatic stress built up at the microcrystal grain boundaries, compared to the other crystals. The number and spectral shape of SiV- color …
