We present an analysis of spontaneous emission in a 3-level atom as an example of a qutrit state under the action of noisy quantum channels. We choose a 3-level atom with V-configuration to be the qutrit state. Gell-Mann matrices and a generalized Bloch vector (8-dimensional) are used to describe the qutrit density operator. Using the time-evolution equations of atomic variables we find the Kraus representation of spontaneous emission quantum channel (SE channel). Furthermore, we consider a generalized Werner state of two qutrits and investigate the separability condition. We give similar analysis of spontaneous emission for qubit channels. The influence of spontaneous emission on the separability of Werner states for qutrit and qubit states is compared.
We present an analysis of noisy atomic channels involving qutrits. We choose a three-level atom with V-configuration to be the qutrit state. Gell-Mann matrices and a generalized Bloch vector (8-dimensional) are used to describe the qutrit density operator. We introduce quantum quasi-distributions for qutrits that provide a simple description of entanglement. Studying the time-evolution for the atomic variables we find the Kraus representation of spontaneous emission quantum channel (SE channel). Furthermore, we consider a generalized Werner state of two qutrits and investigate the separability…
In this paper, we explore the entropy uncertainty for qutrit system under non-Markov noisy environment and discuss the effects of the quantum memory system and the spontaneously generated interference (SGI) on the entropy uncertainty in detail. The results show that, the entropy uncertainty can be reduced by using the methods of quantum memory system and adjusting of SGI. Particularly, the entropy uncertainty can be decreased obviously when both the quantum memory system and the SGI are simultaneously applied.
Due to decoherence, realistic quantum systems inevitably interact with the environment when quantum information is processed, which causes the loss of quantum properties. As a fundamental issue of quantum properties, quantum correlations have attracted a lot of interests in recent years. Because of the importance of high dimensional systems in quantum information, in this work, we study the quantum correlations affected by the Markovian environment by considering the quantum correlations of qutrit-qutrit quantum systems measured by the negativity and the geometric discord. The local noise chan…
We present an analysis of complete positivity (CP) constraints on qutrit quantum channels that have a form of affine transformations of generalized Bloch vector. For diagonal (damping) channels we derive conditions analogous to the ones that in qubit case produce tetrahedron structure in the channel parameter space.
We investigate the dynamics of entanglement for a two-parameter class of states in a hybrid qubit-qutrit system under the influence of various dissipative channels. Our results show that entanglement sudden death (ESD) is a general phenomenon and it usually takes place in a qubit-qutrit system interacting with various noisy channels, not only the case with dephasing and depolarizing channels observed by others. ESD can only be avoided for some initially entangled states under some particular noisy channels. Moreover, the environment affects the entanglement and the coherence of the system in v…
Quantum entanglement, like othre resources, is now coonsidered to be a resource which can be produced, concentrated if required, transported and consumed. After its inception [1] in 1933, various schemes of quantum state teleportation have been proposed using different types of channels. Not restricting to qubit based systems, qutrit states and channels have also been of considerable interest. In the present paper we investigate the teleportation of an unknown single qutrit state as well as two qutrit state through a three qutrit quantum channel along with the required operations to recover th…
We realize Landau-Streater (LS) and Werner-Holevo (WH) quantum channels for qutrits on the IBM quantum computers. These channels correspond to interaction between the qutrit and its environment that result in the globally unitarily covariant qutrit transformation violating multiplicativity of the maximal $p$-norm. Our realization of LS and WH channels is based on embedding qutrit states into states of two qubits and using single-qubit and two-qubit CNOT gates to implement the specific interaction. We employ the standard quantum gates hence the developed algorithm suits any quantum computer. We…
We present numerical evidence showing that any three-dimensional subspace of C^3 \otimes C^n has an orthonormal basis which can be reliably distinguished using one-way LOCC, where a measurement is made first on the 3-dimensional part and the result used to select an optimal measurement on the n-dimensional part. This conjecture has implications for the LOCC-assisted capacity of certain quantum channels, where coordinated measurements are made on the system and environment. By measuring first in the environment, the conjecture would imply that the environment-assisted classical capacity of any …
When subjected to a classical fluctuating field characterized by a Gaussian process, we examine the {purity} and coherence protection in a three-level quantum system. This symmetry of the three-level system is examined when the local random field is investigated further in the noiseless and noisy regimes. In~particular, we consider fractional Gaussian, Gaussian, Ornstein--Uhlenbeck, and~power law noisy regimes. We show that the destructive nature of the Ornstein--Uhlenbeck noise toward the symmetry of the qutrit to preserve encoded {purity and coherence} remains large. Our findings suggest tha…
The problem of finding efficient decompositions of multi-qubit gates is of importance for quantum computing, especially, in application to existing noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices, whose resources are substantially limited. Here we propose a decomposition scheme for a generalized $N$-qubit Toffoli gate with the use of $2N-3$ two-qutrit gates for arbitrary connectivity. The fixed number of the required additional levels (the choice of qutrits is optimal) and the use of the iSWAP gate as a native operation make our approach directly applicable for ongoing experiments with superconductin…
The effect of decoherence on a qubit-qutrit system under the influence of global and multilocal decoherence in non-inertial frames is investigated. It is shown that the entanglement sudden death (ESD) can be avoided in non-inertial frames in the presence of dephasing and bit-trit phase flip channels for entire range of decoherence. However, ESD behaviour is seen for higher level of decoherence in case of phase flip and bit-trit flip channels. Irrespective of the entanglement degradation caused by the Unruh effect, no ESD occurs for the dephasing environment. Furthermore, flipping channels have…
We study the effect of decoherence on a qubit-qutrit system under the influence of global, local and multilocal decoherence in non-inertial frames. We show that the entanglement sudden death can be avoided in non-inertial frames in the presence of amplitude damping, depolarizing and phase damping channels. However, degradation of entanglement is seen due to Unruh effect. It is shown that for lower level of decoherence, the depolarizing channel degrades the entanglement more heavily as compared to the amplitude damping and phase damping channels. However, for higher values of decoherence parame…
We characterize the completely positive trace-preserving maps on qutrits (qutrit channels) according to their covariance and symmetry properties. Both discrete and continuous groups are considered. It is shown how each symmetry group restricts arbitrariness in the parameters of the channel to a very small set. Although the explicit examples are related to qutrit channels, the formalism is sufficiently general to be applied to qudit channels.
Quantum mechanics provides several methods to generate and securely distribute private lists of numbers suitably correlated to solve the Three Byzantine Generals Problem. So far, these methods are based on three-qutrit singlet states, four-qubit entangled states, and three or two pairwise quantum key distribution channels. Here we show that the problem can be solved using a single qutrit. This scheme presents some advantages over previous schemes, and emphasizes the specific role of qutrits in basic quantum information processing.
We investigate the dynamics of quantum discord and entanglement for a class of mixed qubit-qutrit states assuming that only the qutrit is under the action of a dephasing channel. We demonstrate that even though the entanglement in the qubit-qutrit state disappears in a finite time interval, partial coherence left in the system enables quantum discord to remain invariant throughout the whole time evolution.
Quantum discord, as a measure of all quantum correlations, has been proposed as the key resource in certain quantum communication tasks and quantum computational models without containing much entanglement. Dakić, Vedral, and Brukner [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 190502 (2010)] introduced a geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD) and derived an explicit formula for any two-qubit state. Luo and Fu [Phys. Rev. A 82, 034302 (2010)] introduced another form of GMQD and derived an explicit formula for arbitrary state in a bipartite quantum system. However, the explicit analytical expression for any bip…
A three-party scheme for securely sharing an arbitrary unknown single-qutrit state is presented. Using a general Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state as the quantum channel among the three parties, the quantum information (i.e., the qutrit state) from the sender can be split in such a way that the information can be recovered if and only if both receivers collaborate. Moreover, the generation of the scheme to multi-party case is also sketched.
The notion of weighted quantum entropy is reviewed and considered for bipartite and noncomposite quantum systems. The known for the weighted entropy information inequality (subadditivity condition) is extended to the case of indivisible qudit system on example of qutrit. This new inequality for qutrit density matrix is discussed for different cases of weights and states. The role of weighted entropy is discussed in connection with studies of nonlinear quantum channels.
We present an argument for the advantages of using qudits over qubits for scalar Quantum Electrodynamics in $(1+1)$d. We measure the mass gap using an out of time correlator as a function of noise coming from an amplitude damping error channel and a generalized Pauli channel decoherence channel for both qubits and qutrits. For the same error in determination of the mass, the qutrit simulations can tolerate 10 to 100x larger gate noise than a qubit simulations. We find that 20 per-cent accuracy on the mass gap could be possible in the near future with a qutrits but is infeasible using qubits.
In this paper, by exploiting the weak measurement and quantum measurement re- versal (WMQMR) procedure, we propose a scheme to show how one can protect the geometric quantum discord (GQD) of a two-qutrit V-type atomic system each of which interacts with a dissipative reservoir independently. We examine the scheme for the GQD of the initial two-qutrit Werner and Horodecki states for different classes of weak mea- surement strengthes. It is found out that the presented protocol enables us to suppress decoherence due to the amplitude damping (AD) channel and preserve the quantum dis- cord of the …
The existence of distinguishable bases in three-dimensional subspaces of qutrit-qudit systems under one-way local operations and classical communication
We express the matrix elements of the density matrix of the qutrit state in terms of probabilities associated with artificial qubit states. We show that the quantum statistics of qubit states and observables is formally equivalent to the statistics of classical systems with three random vector variables and three classical probability distributions obeying special constrains found in this study. The Bloch spheres geometry of qubit states is mapped onto triangle geometry of qubits. We investigate the triada of Malevich's squares describing the qubit states in quantum suprematism picture and the…
The inevitable dissipative interaction of an entangled quantum system with its environment causes degradation in quantum correlations present in the system. This can lead to a finite-time disappearance of entanglement, which is known as entanglement sudden death (ESD). Here, we consider an initially entangled qubit-qutrit system and a dissipative noise which leads to ESD, and propose a set of local unitary operations, which when applied on the qubit, qutrit, or both subsystems during the decoherence process, cause ESD to be hastened, delayed, or avoided altogether, depending on its time of app…
The bound entangled state carries noisy entanglement and it is very hard to distill but the usefulness of bound entangled states has been depicted in different applications. This article represents a comparative dynamical study of an open quantum system for one of the bound entangled states proposed by Bennett et al. The study is conducted under the influence of Heisenberg, bi-linear bi-quadratic and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. During the study, an auxiliary qutrit interacts with one of the qutrits of the selected two qutrit bound entangled state through different interactions. The…
Precise and efficient control of quantum systems is essential to perform quantum information processing tasks. In terms of adiabatic speedup via leakage elimination operator approach, for a closed system, the ideal pulse control conditions have been theoretically derived by P-Q partitioning technique. However, it is a challenge to design the corresponding control pulses for an open system, which requires to tackle noisy environments. In this paper, we apply the stochastic search procedures to an open qutrit system and successfully obtain the optimal control pulses for significant adiabatic spe…
The possibility of detracting the decoherence due to the acceleration process of the two-qutrit system is investigated, where we examined the behaviour of the relative entropy and the non-local information. For this purpose, the accelerated subsystems are allowed to pass through local or global noisy channels. It is shown that, the detraction potential depends on the type of the used noisy channel, local or global, and the initial settings of the accelerated qutrit systems, whether it is prepared in free or bound entangled intervals. The improving rate that depicted for systems prepared in the…
We propose a method to implement a kind of non-local operations between spatially separated two systems with arbitrary high-dimensions by using only low-dimensional qubit quantum channels and classical bit communications. The result may be generalized straightforwardly to apply for multiple systems, each of them with arbitrary dimensions. Compared with existed approaches, our method can economize classical resources and the needed low-dimensional quantum channels may be more easily established in practice. We also show the construction of the non-local quantum XOR gate for qutrit systems in te…
This article provides the unconditional security of a semi quantum key distribution (SQKD) protocol based on 3-dimensional quantum states. By deriving a lower bound for the key rate, in the asymptotic scenario, as a function of the quantum channel's noise, we find that this protocol has improved secret key rate with much more tolerance for noise compared to the previous 2-dimensional SQKD protocol. Our results highlight that, similar to the fully quantum key distribution protocol, increasing the dimension of the system can increase the noise tolerance in the semi-quantum key distribution, as w…
It is known that measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) provides ultimate security from all types of side-channel attack against detectors at the expense of low key generation rate. Here, we propose MDI-QKD using 3-dimensional quantum states and show that the protocol improves the secret key rate under the analysis of mismatched-basis statistics. Specifically, we analyze security of the 3d-MDI-QKD protocol with uncharacterized sources, meaning that the original sources contain unwanted states instead of expected one. We simulate secret key rate of the protocol and id…
Quantum reservoir engineering is a powerful framework for autonomous quantum state preparation and error correction. However, traditional approaches to reservoir engineering are hindered by unavoidable coherent leakage out of the target state, which imposes an inherent trade off between achievable steady-state state fidelity and stabilization rate. In this work we demonstrate a protocol that achieves trade off-free Bell state stabilization in a qutrit-qubit system realized on a circuit-QED platform. We accomplish this by creating a purely dissipative channel for population transfer into the ta…
The evolution of an open system is usually associated with the interaction of the system with an environment. A new method to study the open-type system evolution of a qubit (two-level atom) state is established. This evolution is determined by a unitary transformation applied to the qutrit (three-level atom) state, which defines the qubit subsystems. This procedure can be used to obtain different qubit quantum channels employing unitary transformations into the qutrit system. In particular, we study the phase damping and spontaneous-emission quantum channels. In addition, we mention a proposa…
Quantum Lovász number is a quantum generalization of the Lovász number in graph theory. It is the best known efficiently computable upper bound of the entanglement-assisted zero-error classical capacity of a quantum channel. However, it remains an intriguing open problem whether quantum entanglement can always enhance the zero-error capacity to achieve the quantum Lovász number. In this paper, by constructing a particular class of qutrit-to-qutrit channels, we show that there exists a strict gap between the entanglement-assisted zero-error capacity and the quantum Lovász number. Interestingly,…
Reconstruction of a quantum state is of prime importance for quantum-information science. Specifically, means of efficient determination of a state of atoms of room-temperature vapor may enable applications in quantum computations and cryptography. To step toward such applications, here we present a method of reconstruction of a collective density matrix of an atomic ensemble, consisting of atoms with an $F=1$ ground state. Such a long-lived state is often encountered in real systems (e.g., potassium, sodium, rubidium) and hence may be practically utilized. Our theoretical treatment enables de…
In this thesis, we report the theoretical and experimental investigations towards the creation, characterization, and manipulation of quantum entanglement in a photonic system. We examine two different aspects of quantum entanglement: In the first part, we discuss the experimental method for the preparation and characterization of SPDC-based polarization-entangled photon source. We provide a review study comparing different Entanglement Measures for non-maximally entangled two-qubit pure states and extend this analysis to higher-dimensional systems. In the second part, we study the entanglemen…
We present a gauge invariant digitization of $(1+1)$d scalar quantum electrodynamics for an arbitrary spin truncation for qudit-based quantum computers. We provide a construction of the Trotter operator in terms of a universal qudit-gate set. The cost savings of using a qutrit based spin-1 encoding versus a qubit encoding are illustrated. We show that a simple initial state could be simulated on current qutrit based hardware using noisy simulations for two different native gate set.
