We propose a method to improve quantum state transfer in transmission lines. The idea is to localize the information on the last qubit of a transmission line, by dynamically varying the coupling constants between the first and the last pair of qubits. The fidelity of state transfer is higher then in a chain with fixed coupling constants. The effect is stable against small fluctuations in the system parameters.
We demonstrate that the quantum communication between two parties can be significantly improved if the receiver is allowed to store the received signals in a quantum memory before decoding them. In the limit of an infinite memory, the transfer is perfect. We prove that this scheme allows the transfer of arbitrary multipartite states along Heisenberg chains of spin-1/2 particles with random coupling strengths.
We propose a method of optimally controlling state transfer through a noisy quantum channel (spin-chain). This process is treated as qubit state-transfer through a fermionic bath. We show that dynamical modulation of the boundary-qubits levels suffices to ensure fast and high-fidelity state transfer. This is achievable by dynamically optimizing the transmission spectrum of the channel. The resulting optimal control is robust against both static and fluctuating noise.
We present a technique that dramatically improves the accuracy of adiabatic state transfer for a broad class of realistic Hamiltonians. For some systems, the total error scaling can be quadratically reduced at a fixed maximum transfer rate. These improvements rely only on the judicious choice of the total evolution time. Our technique is error-robust, and hence applicable to existing experiments utilizing adiabatic passage. We give two examples as proofs-of-principle, showing quadratic error reductions for an adiabatic search algorithm and a tunable two-qubit quantum logic gate.
State transfer across discrete quantum networks is one of the elementary tasks of quantum information processing. Its aim is the faithful placement of information into a specific position in the network. However, all physical systems suffer from imperfections, which can severely limit the transfer fidelity. We present selective dynamical decoupling schemes which are capable of stabilizing imperfect quantum state transfer protocols on the model of a bent linear qubit chain. The efficiency of the schemes is tested and verified in numerical simulations on a number of realistic cases. The simulati…
We propose a method of optimally controlling the tradeoff of speed and fidelity of state transfer through a noisy quantum channel (spin-chain). This process is treated as qubit state-transfer through a fermionic bath. We show that dynamical modulation of the boundary-qubits levels can ensure state transfer with the best tradeoff of speed and fidelity. This is achievable by dynamically optimizing the transmission spectrum of the channel. The resulting optimal control is robust against both static and fluctuating noise in the channel's spin-spin couplings. It may also facilitate transfer in the …
Accurate time transfer has become a crucial issue for future space experiments which require increasing resolution over large distances. In 2008, a scheme combining homodyne detection and mode-locked femtosecond lasers was proposed that leads to a potential timing precision reaching the yoctosecond range; with a multimode quantum frequency comb as the input field, the sub-shot noise measurement for the time transfer can further improve the timing precision. Based on this scheme and applying the multimode squeezing frequency comb that was measured to have a phase quadrature quantum noise reduct…
We analyze quantum state-transfer optimization within hybrid open systems, from a "noisy" (write-in) qubit to its "quiet" counterpart (storage qubit). Intriguing interplay is revealed between our ability to avoid bath-induced errors that profoundly depend on the bath-memory time and the limitations imposed by leakage out of the operational subspace. Counterintuitively, under no circumstances is the fastest transfer optimal (for a given transfer energy).
We consider the usage of dynamical decoupling in quantum metrology, where the joint evolution of system plus environment is described by a Hamiltonian. We demonstrate that by ultra-fast unitary control operations acting locally only on system qubits, essentially all kinds of noise can be eliminated. This is done in such a way that the desired evolution is reduced by at most a constant factor, leading to Heisenberg scaling. The only exception is noise that is generated by the Hamiltonian to be estimated itself. However, even for such parallel noise, one can achieve an improved scaling as compar…
Quantum walks are a well-established model for the study of coherent transport phenomena and provide a universal platform in quantum information theory. Dynamically influencing the walker's evolution gives a high degree of flexibility for studying various applications. Here, we present time-multiplexed finite quantum walks of variable size, the preparation of non-localized input states and their dynamical evolution. As a further application, we implement a state transfer scheme for an arbitrary input state to two different output modes. The presented experiments rely on the full dynamical cont…
Methods for calculating the transmission coefficient are proposed, all of which arise from improved non-reflecting WKB boundary conditions at the edge of the computational domain in 1-dimensional geometries. In the first, the Schrödinger equation is solved numerically while the second is a transfer matrix (TM) algorithm where the potential is approximated by steps, but with the first and last matrix modified to reflect the new boundary condition. Both methods give excellent results with first order WKB boundary conditions. The third uses the transfer matrix method with third order WKB boundary…
Transferring a quantum state of a light field to a memory is of particular importance. However, this transfer is usually hampered because the memory system is subjected to some noise and this can limit the performance of the state transfer to a great extent. In this paper, we consider the transfer of a Gaussian state of light to a linear medium memory such as an opto-mechanical oscillator and propose a dynamical feedback controller that suppresses the noise in the memory system. To protect an unknown state, the feedback scheme employs the specific configuration of the quantum error correction;…

The variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm designed for current and near-term quantum devices. Despite its initial success, there is a lack of understanding involving several of its key aspects. There are problems with VQE that forbid a favourable scaling towards quantum advantage. In order to alleviate the problems, we propose and extensively test a quantum annealing inspired heuristic that supplements VQE. The improved VQE enables an efficient initial state preparation mechanism, in a recursive manner, for a quasi-dynamical unitary evolution. We conduct…
The dynamical Casimir effect (DCE) manifests itself in the ultrastrong matter-field coupling (USC) regime, as a consequence of the nonadiabatic change of some parameters of a system. We show that the DCE is a fundamental limitation for standard quantum protocols based on quantum Rabi oscillations, implying that new schemes are required to implement high-fidelity ultrafast quantum gates. Our results are illustrated by means of a paradigmatic quantum communication protocol, i.e., quantum state transfer.
We utilize simulations of electron scattering by a chain of dynamical quantum spins, to analyze the interplay between the spin transfer effect and the magnetization dynamics. We show that the complex interactions between the spin-polarized electrons and the dynamical states of the local spins can be decomposed into separate processes involving electron reflection and transmission, as well as absorption and emission of magnons - the quanta of magnetization dynamics. Analysis shows that these processes are substantially constrained by the energy and momentum conversation laws, resulting in a sig…
We present two strategies to enhance the dynamical entanglement transfer from continuous variable (CV) to finite dimensional systems by employing multiple qubits. First, we consider the entanglement transfer to a composite finite dimensional system of many qubits simultaneously interacting with a bipartite CV field. We show that, considering realistic conditions in the generation of CV entanglement, a small number of qubits resonantly coupled to the CV system is sufficient for an almost complete dynamical transfer of the entanglement. Our analysis also sheds further light on the transition bet…
In this paper, the dynamics of a system composed by an assembly of two-level atoms coupled to a single-mode cavity is theoretically studied considering the Tavis-Cummings Hamiltonian. Motivated by recent experimental results in non-linear phenomena on squeezed-like states, we have found that a threefold star state for the whole set of emitters can be dynamically generated from the analogue photonic state; beyond this, we numerically demonstrate, that this transfer of star-like states critically depends with the number of emitters. Quantum statistical properties of the system are obtained by co…
We analyze the time-dependent energy and heat flows in a resonant level coupled to a fermionic continuum. The level is periodically forced with an external power source that supplies energy into the system. Based on the tunneling Hamiltonian approach and scattering theory, we discuss the different contributions to the total energy flux. We then derive the appropriate expression for the dynamical dissipation, in accordance with the fundamental principles of thermodynamics. Remarkably, we find that the dissipated heat can be expressed as a Joule law with a universal resistance that is constant a…
