We analyze the problem of a quantum computer in a correlated environment protected from decoherence by QEC using a perturbative renormalization group approach. The scaling equation obtained reflects the competition between the dimension of the computer and the scaling dimension of the correlations. For an irrelevant flow, the error probability is reduced to a stochastic form for long time and/or large number of qubits; thus, the traditional derivation of the threshold theorem holds for these error models. In this way, the ``threshold theorem'' of quantum computing is rephrased as a dimensional criterion.
Variational algorithms are a promising paradigm for utilizing near-term quantum devices for modeling electronic states of molecular systems. However, previous bounds on the measurement time required have suggested that the application of these techniques to larger molecules might be infeasible. We present a measurement strategy based on a low rank factorization of the two-electron integral tensor. Our approach provides a cubic reduction in term groupings over prior state-of-the-art and enables measurement times three orders of magnitude smaller than those suggested by commonly referenced bound…

We propose a protocol for perfect quantum state transfer that is resilient to a broad class of realistic experimental imperfections, including noise sources that could be modelled either as independent Markovian baths or as certain forms of spatially correlated environments. We highlight interesting connections between the fidelity of state transfer and quantum stochastic resonance effects. The scheme is flexible enough to act as an effective entangling gate for the generation of genuine multipartite entanglement in a control-limited setting. Possible experimental implementations using superco…
For any experiment with two entangled photons, some joint measurement outcomes can have zero probability for a precise choice of basis. These perfect anti-correlations would seem to be a purely quantum phenomenon. It is therefore surprising that these very anti-correlations are also evident when the input to the same experiment is analyzed via classical electromagnetic theory. Demonstrating this quantum-classical connection for arbitrary two-photon states (and analyzing why it is successful) motivates alternative perspectives concerning entanglement, the path integral, and other topics in quan…
In this article, we review the basic concepts of quantum radars as such types of the devices while highlighting differences with their classical analogs. We discuss how several concepts from traditional radars technology, e.g., target detection sensitivity, noise resilience and ranging accuracy can be translated to quantum radars. We examine such new far-field sensing protocols as quantum illumination (QI), and engineering opportunities enabled by its different realizations. We consider possibilities of achieving super-sensitivity and super-resolution using quantum correlations, and discuss po…
We propose a new inequality that we call the conditional ageing inequality (CAIN). The CAIN is a slight generalization to non-equilibrium situations of the Second Law of thermodynamics. The goal of this paper is to study the consequences of the CAIN. We use the CAIN to discuss Maxwell demon processes (i.e., thermodynamic processes with feedback.) In particular, we apply the CAIN to four cases of the Szilard engine: for a classical or a quantum system with either one or two correlated particles. Besides proposing this new inequality that we call the CAIN, another novel feature of this paper is …
We show that ultra-cold atoms with synthetic spin-orbit coupling in Raman lattices can be used as versatile quantum simulators to explore the connections between correlated Chern insulators and strongly-coupled four-Fermi field theories related to the Gross-Neveu model in (2+1) dimensions. Exploiting this multidisciplinary perspective, we identify a large-$N$ quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect in absence of any external magnetic field, and use it to delimit regions in parameter space where these correlated topological phases appear, the boundaries of which are controlled by strongly-coupled f…
