We propose simple schemes that can perfectly identify projective measurement apparatus secretly chosen from a finite set. Entanglements are used in these schemes both to make possible the perfect identification and to improve the efficiency significantly. A brief discussion on the problem of how to appropriately define distance measures of measurements is also provided based on the results of identification.

An experimental apparatus for measuring the Casimir effect at large distances

An experimental set-up for the measurement of the Casimir effect at separations larger than a few microns is presented. The apparatus is based on a mechanical resonator and uses a homodyne detection technique to sense the Casimir force in the plane-parallel configuration. First measurements in the 3-10 micrometer range show an unexpected large force probably due to patch effects.

Private entanglement over arbitrary distances, even using noisy apparatus

We give a security proof of quantum cryptography based entirely on entanglement purification. Our proof applies to all possible attacks (individual and coherent). It implies the security of cryptographic keys distributed with the help of entanglement-based quantum repeaters. We prove the security of the obtained quantum channel which may not only be used for quantum key distribution, but also for secure, albeit noisy, transmission of quantum information.

Apparatus for measuring the thermal Casimir force at large distances

We describe a Casimir apparatus based on a differential force measurement between a Au-coated sphere and a planar slab divided in two regions, one of which is made of high-resistivity (dielectric) Si, and the other of Au. Trace-distance correlations for X states and emergence of the pointer basis in Markovian and non-Markovian regimes

We provide analytical expressions for classical and total trace-norm (Schatten 1-norm) geometric correlations in the case of two-qubit X states. As an application, we consider the open-system dynamical behavior of such correlations under phase and generalized amplitude damping evolutions. Results from electrostatic calibrations for measuring the Casimir force in the cylinder-plane geometry

We report on measurements performed on an apparatus aimed to study the Casimir force in the cylinder-plane configuration. The electrostatic calibrations evidence anomalous behaviors in the dependence of the electrostatic force and the minimizing potential upon distance. We discuss analogies and differences of these anomalies with respect to those already observed in the sphere-plane configuration. Efficient characterization of quantum nondemolition qubit readout

We study the quantitative characterization of the performance of qubit measurements in this paper. In particular, the back-action evading nature of quantum nondemolition (QND) readout of qubits is fully quantified by quantum trace distance. Only computational basis states are necessary to be taken into consideration. Surface Contact Potential Patches and Casimir Force Measurements

We present calculations of contact potential surface patch effects that simplify previous treatments. It is shown that, because of the linearity of Laplace's equation, the presence of patch potentials does not affect an electrostatic calibration (of force and/or distance) of a two-plate Casimir measurement apparatus.
