For Klein-Gordon equation a consistent physical interpretation of wave functions is reviewed as based on a proper modification of the scalar product in Hilbert space. Bound states are then studied in a deep-square-well model where spectrum is roughly equidistant and where a fine-tuning of the levels is mediated by PT-symmetric interactions composed of imaginary delta functions which mimic creation/annihilation processes.
A new one-dimensional model is proposed for the low-energy vibrational quantum dynamics of CH5+ based on the motion of an effective particle confined to a 60-vertex graph $Γ_{60}$ with a single edge length parameter. Within this model, the quantum states of CH5+ are obtained in analytic form and are related to combinatorial properties of $Γ_{60}$. The bipartite structure of $Γ_{60}$ gives a simple explanation for curious symmetries observed in numerically exact variational calculations on CH5+.
In this work, we provided a proof-of-principle of efficient production of maximally entangled states using charged quantum dots coupled to vibrational modes. The physical system consists of two pairs of quantum dots, each pair with a single electron able to tunnel between the dots, thus encoding a qubit. The electrons, initially not coupled, interact with two bosonic vibrational modes. It is demonstrated that the electron-vibrational mode coupling drives to an effective electron-electron interaction, which is the main mechanism behind the formation of maximally quantum entangled electronic sta…
We model quasi-two-dimensional two-electron Quantum Dots in a parabolic confinement potential with rovibrational and purely vibrational effective Hamiltonian operators. These are optimized by non-linear least-square fits to the exact energy levels. We find, that the vibrational Hamiltonian describes the energy levels well and reveals how relative contributions change on varying the confinement strength. The rovibrational model suggests the formation of a rigid two-electron molecule in weak confinement and we further present a modified model, that allows a very accurate transition from weak to …
We present a method to solve the problem of Rashba spin-orbit coupling in semiconductor quantum dots, within the context of quasi-exactly solvable spectral problems. We show that the problem possesses a hidden osp(2,2) superalgebra. We constructed a general matrix whose determinant provide exact eigenvalues. Analogous mathematical structures between the Rashba and some of the other spin-boson physical systems are notified.
We show that $n$ thermal fermionic alkaline-earth atoms in a flat-bottom trap allow one to robustly implement a spin model displaying two symmetries: the $S_n$ symmetry that permutes atoms occupying different vibrational levels of the trap and the SU($N$) symmetry associated with $N$ nuclear spin states. The high symmetry makes the model exactly solvable, which, in turn, enables the analytic study of dynamical processes such as spin diffusion in this SU($N$) system. We also show how to use this system to generate entangled states that allow for Heisenberg-limited metrology. This highly symmetr…
It is shown that a family of analytically solvable pulses can be used to obtain high fidelity quantum phase gates with surprising robustness against imperfections in the system or pulse parameters. Phase gates are important because they can implement the necessary operations for universal quantum computing. They are particularly suited for systems such as self-assembled quantum dots, trapped ions, and defects in solids, as these are typically manipulated by the transient excitation of a state outside the qubit subspace.
Recent progress in the field of molecular electronics has revealed the fundamental importance of the coupling between the electronic degrees of freedom and specific vibrational modes. Considering the examples of a molecular dimer and a carbon nanotube double quantum dot, we here theoretically investigate transport through a two-site system that is strongly coupled to a single vibrational mode. Using a quantum master equation approach, we demonstrate that, depending on the relative positions of the two dots, electron-phonon interactions can lead to negative differential conductance and suppress…
We consider the motion of electrons confined to a two dimensional plane with an externally applied perpendicular inhomogeneous magnetic field, both with and without a Coulomb potential. We find that as long as the magnetic field is slowly-decaying, bound states in magnetic quantum dots are indeed possible. Several example cases of such magnetic quantum dots are considered in which one can find the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in closed form, including two hitherto unknown quasi-exactly solvable models treated with confluent and biconfluent Heun polynomials. It is shown how a modulation of th…
We investigate the temperature dependence of photon coherence properties through two photon interference (TPI) measurements from a single QD under resonant excitation. We show that the loss of indistinguishability is only related to the electron-phonon coupling without being affected by spectral diffusion. Through these measurements, and a complementary microscopic theory, we identify two independent separate decoherence processes each associated to phonons. Below 10K, we find that the relaxation of the vibrational lattice is the dominant contribution to the loss of TPI visibility. This proces…
Raman scattering signal can be enhanced through localization of incident field into sub-wavelength hot-spots through plasmonic nano-structures (Surface-enhanced Raman scattering-SERS). Recently, further enhancement of SERS signal via quantum objects are proposed by [1] without increasing the hot-spot intensity (\textit{silent-enhancement}) where this suggestion prevents the modification of vibrational modes or the breakdown of molecules. The method utilizes path interference in the non-linear response of Stokes-shifted Raman modes. In this work, we extend this phenomenon to tune the spectral p…
An electron confined in a quantum dot interacts with its local nuclear spin environment through the hyperfine contact interaction. This interaction combined with external control and relaxation or measurement of the electron spin allows for the generation of dynamic nuclear polarization. The quantum nature of the nuclear bath, along with the interplay of coherent external fields and incoherent dynamics in these systems renders a wealth of intriguing phenomena seen in recent experiments such as electron Zeeman frequency focusing, hysteresis, and line dragging. We develop in detail a fully quant…
We construct examples of translationally invariant solvable models of strongly-correlated metals, composed of lattices of Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev dots with identical local interactions. These models display crossovers as a function of temperature into regimes with local quantum criticality and marginal-Fermi liquid behavior. In the marginal Fermi liquid regime, the dc resistivity increases linearly with temperature over a broad range of temperatures. By generalizing the form of interactions, we also construct examples of non-Fermi liquids with critical Fermi-surfaces. The self energy has a singular …
We consider a molecular aggregate consisting of $N$ identical monomers. Each monomer comprises two electronic levels and a single harmonic mode. The monomers interact with each other via dipole-dipole forces. The monomer vibrational modes are bilinearly coupled to a bath of harmonic oscillators. This is a prototypical model for the description of coherent exciton transport, from quantum dots to photosynthetic antennae. We derive an exact quantum master equation for such systems. Computationally, the master equation may be useful for the testing of various approximations employed in theories of…
Strong repelling interactions between a few fermions or bosons confined in two-dimensional circular traps lead to particle localization and formation of quantum Wigner molecules (QWMs) possessing definite point-group space symmetries. These point-group symmetries are "hidden" (or emergent), namely they cannot be traced in the circular single-particle densities (SPDs) associated with the exact many-body wave functions, but they are manifested as characteristic signatures in the ro-vibrational spectra. An example, among many, are the few-body QWM states under a high magnetic field or at fast rot…
The recent results of [J. Dubail, J.-M. Stéphan, J. Viti, P. Calabrese, Scipost Phys. 2, 002 (2017)], which aim at providing access to large scale correlation functions of inhomogeneous critical one-dimensional quantum systems -- e.g. a gas of hard core bosons in a trapping potential -- are extended to a dynamical situation: a breathing gas in a time-dependent harmonic trap. Hard core bosons in a time-dependent harmonic potential are well known to be exactly solvable, and can thus be used as a benchmark for the approach. An extensive discussion of the approach and of its relation with classica…
