Reply to Comment on "Quantum inversion of cold atoms in a microcavity: spatial dependence"

The question raised by [Bastin and Martin 2003 J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 36, 4201] is examined and used to explain in more detail a key point of our calculations. They have sought to rebut criticisms raised by us of certain techniques used in the calculation of the off-resonance case. It is also explained why this result is not a problem for the off-resonance case, but, on the contrary, opens the door to a general situation. Their comment is based on a blatant misunderstanding of our proposal and as such is simply wrong.

Comment on "Quantum theory of collective strong coupling of molecular vibrations with a microcavity mode"

We have found missing terms and incorrect signs in the secular master equations reported by Del Pino et. al., New J. Phys., 17 (2015), 053040 for vibrational polariton relaxation. Inclusion of these terms and signs are essential to yield correct (vanishing) pure dephasing rates between polariton states, as well as coherence transfer pathways between polaritons and dark states. Phonon laser action in a tunable, two-level photonic molecule

The phonon analog of an optical laser has long been a subject of interest. We demonstrate a compound microcavity system, coupled to a radio-frequency mechanical mode, that operates in close analogy to a two-level laser system. An inversion produces gain, causing phonon laser action above a pump power threshold of around 50 $μ$W. The device features a continuously tunable, gain spectrum to selectively amplify mechanical modes from radio frequency to microwave rates. Cavity-enhanced excitation of a quantum dot in the picosecond regime

A major challenge in generating single photons with a single emitter is to excite the emitter while avoiding laser leakage into the collection path. Ideally, any scheme to suppress this leakage should not result in a loss in efficiency of the single-photon source.
