We consider a unitary transformation which maps any given state of an $n$-qubit quantum register into another one. This transformation has applications in the initialization of a quantum computer, and also in some quantum algorithms. Employing uniformly controlled rotations, we present a quantum circuit of $2^{n+2}-4n-4$ CNOT gates and $2^{n+2}-5$ one-qubit elementary rotations that effects the state transformation. The complexity of the circuit is noticeably lower than the previously published results. Moreover, we present an analytic expression for the rotation angles needed for the transformation.
Uniformly controlled one-qubit gates are quantum gates which can be represented as direct sums of two-dimensional unitary operators acting on a single qubit. We present a quantum gate array which implements any n-qubit gate of this type using at most 2^{n-1} - 1 controlled-NOT gates, 2^{n-1} one-qubit gates and a single diagonal n-qubit gate. The circuit is based on the so-called quantum multiplexor, for which we provide a modified construction. We illustrate the versatility of these gates by applying them to the decomposition of a general n-qubit gate and a local state preparation procedure. …
Implementation of controlled-rotations using entanglement is considered. We show that the successful probability is closely related to the entanglement and the rotation angle. The successful probability will increase if we increase the entanglement we use or decrease the controlled-rotation angle and the probability will trend to unit when the entangled state trends to a Bell state or the controlled-rotation angle trends to zero.
This paper presents feasible experimental schemes to realize controlled teleportation protocols via photonic Faraday rotations in low-Q cavities. The schemes deal with controlled teleportation of superposition states and two-particle entanglement of atomic states. The information is encoded in three-level atoms in a lambda configuration trapped inside coupled cavities by optical fibers. Also, we estimate the success probability and the current feasibility of the schemes.
We investigate, both theoretically and experimentally, the phenomenon of polarization rotation of a weak, linearly-polarized optical (probe) field in an atomic system with multiple three-level electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) sub-systems. The polarization rotation angle can be controlled by a circularly-polarized coupling beam, which breaks the symmetry in number of EIT subsystems seen by the left- and right-circularly-polarized components of the weak probe beam. A large polarization rotation angle (up to 45 degrees) has been achieved with a coupling beam power of only 15 mW. Det…
To assess whether a gate-based quantum algorithm can be executed successfully on a noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) device, both complexity and actual value of quantum resources should be considered carefully. Based on quantum phase estimation, we implemente arbitrary controlled rotation of quantum algorithms with a proposed modular method. The proposed method is not limited to be used as a submodule of the HHL algorithm and can be applied to more general quantum machine learning algorithms. Compared with the polynomial-fitting function method, our method only requires the least ancilla…
We present a way for implementing an n-qubit controlled-rotation gate with three-level superconducting qubit systems in cavity QED. The two logical states of a qubit are represented by the two lowest levels of each system while a higher-energy level is used for the gate implementation. The method operates essentially by preparing a $W$ state conditioned on the states of the control qubits, creating a single photon in the cavity mode, and then performing an arbitrary rotation on the states of the target qubit with assistance of the cavity photon. It is interesting to note that the basic operati…
Solution of the Dirac equation predicts that when an electron with non-zero orbital angular momentum propagates in a cylindrically symmetric potential, its spin and orbital degrees of freedom interact, causing the electron's phase velocity to depend on whether its spin and orbital angular momenta vectors are oriented parallel or anti-parallel with respect to each other. This spin-orbit splitting of the electronic dispersion curves can result in a rotation of the electron's spatial state in a manner controlled by the electron's own spin z-component value. These effects persist at non-relativist…
One of the fundamental limitations to high bit rate, long distance, telecommunication in optical fibers is Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD). Here we introduce a conceptually new method to reduce PMD in optical fibers by carrying out controlled rotations of polarization at predetermined locations along the fiber. The distance between these controlled polarization rotations must be less than both the beat length and the mode coupling length of the fiber. This method can also be combined with the method in which the fiber is spun while it drawn. The incidence of imperfections on the efficiency …
We give a simple, closed-form formula, what we call the Deflation Identity, for converting any 2-qubit circuit with exactly two controlled-U's (and some 1-qubit rotations) into an equivalent circuit with just two CNOTs (and some 1-qubit rotations). We also give two interesting applications of the Deflation Identity; one to "opening and closing a breach" in a quantum circuit, the other to the CS decomposition of a 2-qubit operator.
The implementation of logical operations on polarization-encoded x-rays via resonant light-nucleus interactions is theoretically investigated. We show that by means of resonant scattering off nuclei and fast rotations of the nuclear hyperfine magnetic field to control the polarization of the output photon, single-qubit logical gates can be simulated. A second control qubit may be employed to trigger the magnetic field rotation, thus allowing several implementation choices for a controlled NOT gate for x-ray photons.
We propose a universal gate set for quantum computing with all-to-all connectivity and intrinsic robustness to bit-flip errors based on parity encoding. We show that logical controlled phase gate and $R_z$ rotations can be implemented in parity encoding with single-qubit operations. Together with logical $R_x$ rotations, implemented via nearest-neighbor controlled-NOT gates and an $R_x$ rotation, these form a universal gate set. As the controlled phase gate requires only single-qubit rotations, the proposed scheme has advantages for several cornerstone quantum algorithms, e.g., the quantum Fou…
Typical circuit implementations of Shor's algorithm involve controlled rotation gates of magnitude $π/2^{2L}$ where $L$ is the binary length of the integer N to be factored. Such gates cannot be implemented exactly using existing fault-tolerant techniques. Approximating a given controlled $π/2^{d}$ rotation gate to within $δ=O(1/2^{d})$ currently requires both a number of qubits and number of fault-tolerant gates that grows polynomially with $d$. In this paper we show that this additional growth in space and time complexity would severely limit the applicability of Shor's algorithm to large in…
Quantum circuit model is the most popular paradigm for implementing complex quantum computation. Based on Cartan decomposition, we show that $2(N-1)$ generalized controlled-$X$ (GCX) gates, $6$ single-qubit rotations about the $y$- and $z$-axes, and $N+5$ single-partite $y$- and $z$-rotation-types which are defined in this paper are sufficient to simulate a controlled-unitary gate $\mathcal{U}_{cu(2\otimes N)}$ with $A$ controlling on $\mathbb{C}^2\otimes \mathbb{C}^N$. In the scenario of the unitary gate $\mathcal{U}_{cd(M\otimes N)}$ with $M\geq3$ that is locally equivalent to a diagonal uni…
Quantum logic gates with many control qubits are essential in many quantum algorithms, but remain challenging to perform in current experiments. Trapped ion quantum computers natively feature a different type of entangling operation, namely the Molmer-Sorensen (MS) gate which effectively applies an Ising interaction to all qubits at the same time. We consider a sequence of equal all-to-all MS operations, interleaved with single qubit gates that act only on one special qubit. Using a connection with quantum signal processing techniques, we find that it is possible to perform an arbitray SU(2) r…
Quamtum remote rotation allows implement local quantum operation on remote systems with shared entanglement. Here we report an experimental demonstration of remote rotation on single photons using linear optical element. And the local dephase is also teleported during the process. The scheme can be generalized to any controlled rotation commutes with $σ_{z}$.
We construct a quantum gate entangler based on selective phase rotation transform. In particular, we established a relation between quantum integral transform and quantum gates entangler in terms of universal controlled gates for multi-qubit states. Our construction is also related to the geometrical structure of multipartite quantum systems.
The Liouville equation governing the evolution of the density matrix for an atomic/molecular system is expressed in terms of a commutator between the density matrix and the Hamiltonian, along with terms that account for decay and redistribution. For finding solutions of this equation, it is convenient first to reformulate the Liouville equation by defining a vector corresponding to the elements of the density operator, and determining the corresponding time-evolution matrix. For a system of N energy levels, the size of the evolution matrix is N2xN2. When N is very large, evaluating the element…
A 5-qubit quantum controlled teleportation scheme incorporated with a 3-qubit quantum error-corrective circuit is proposed for satellite control and communication. This means that the coordinates of a satellite on the unit two-dimensional Bloch sphere representation can be sent to the ground based operator via quantum teleportation. Applying quantum rotation operators to the initial quantum state, to obtain desired changes, the corrected/desired quantum state can be sent back to the satellite to adjust its coordinates.
It is expected that quantum wires (q-wires), will be required to transport quantum information within many quantum computer implementations. Here we describe a new design for a q-wire with perfect transmission using a uniformly coupled Ising spin chain subject to global (homogeneously-applied) pulses. Besides allowing for perfect transport of single qubits, the design also yields the perfect ``mirroring'' of multiply encoded qubits within the wire. We further utilise this global-pulse generated perfect mirror operation as a ``clock cycle'' to perform universal quantum computation on these mult…
Previous schemes of nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation were focused mainly on realizing a universal set of elementary gates. Multiqubit controlled gates could be built by decomposing them into a series of the universal gates. In this article, we propose an approach for realizing nonadiabatic holonomic multiqubit controlled gates in which a $(n+1)$-qubit controlled-$(\boldsymbol{\mathrm{n}\cdot \mathrmσ})$ gate is realized by $(2n-1)$ basic operations instead of decomposing it into the universal gates, whereas an $(n+1)$-qubit controlled arbitrary rotation gate can be obtained by combin…
Based on electron spins in semiconductor quantum dots as qubits, a new quantum controlled-NOT(CNOT) gate is constructed in solid nanostructure without resorting to spin-spin interactions. Single electron tunneling technology and coherent quantum-dot cellular automata architecture are used to generate an ancillary charge entangled state. Using the ancillary charge entangled state as an intermediate state, we obtain a spin entangled state and design a CNOT gate by using only single spin rotations.
We generalize quantum circuits for the Toffoli gate presented by Selinger and Jones for functionally controlled NOT gates, i.e., $X$ gates controlled by arbitrary $n$-variable Boolean functions. Our constructions target the gate set consisting of Clifford gates and single qubit rotations by arbitrary angles. Our constructions use the Walsh-Hadamard spectrum of Boolean functions and build on the work by Schuch and Siewert and Welch et al. We present quantum circuits for the case where the target qubit is in an arbitrary state as well as the special case where the target is in a known state. Add…
We present a theoretical proposal of a tunable charge qubit, hosted in triple quantum dots. The manipulation is solely performed by changing the heights of the two potential barriers between the three dots, while the energy of all three dots are fixed. We have found that when the relative height of the two barriers are changed, the direction of the axis of rotation in performing single-qubit gates can be varied. On the other hand, the corresponding rotation speed can be tuned by raising or lowering the two barriers at the same time. Our proposal therefore allows for tunability of both the rota…
We construct a minimal circuit, based on the top-transmon design, to rotate a qubit formed out of four Majorana zero-modes at the edge of a two-dimensional topological insulator. Unlike braiding operations, generic rotations have no topological protection, but they do allow for a full characterization of the coherence times of the Majorana qubit. The rotation is controlled by variation of the flux through a pair of split Josephson junctions in a Cooper pair box, without any need to adjust gate voltages. The Rabi oscillations of the Majorana qubit can be monitored via oscillations in the resona…
We describe how to prepare an electrically levitated nanodiamond in a superposition of orientations via microwave driving of a single embedded nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center. Suitably aligning the magnetic field with the NV center can serve to reach the regime of ultrastrong coupling between the NV and the diamond rotation, enabling single-spin control of the particle's three-dimensional orientation. We derive the effective spin-oscillator Hamiltonian for small amplitude rotation about the equilibrium configuration and develop a protocol to create and observe quantum superpositions of the partic…
We demonstrate parallel composite quantum logic gates with phases implemented locally through nanoscale movement of ions within a global laser beam of fixed pulse duration. We show that a simple four-pulse sequence suffices for constructing ideal arbitrary single-qubit rotations in the presence of large intensity inhomogeneities across the ion trap due to laser beam-pointing or beam-focusing. Using such sequences, we perform parallel arbitrary rotations on ions in two trapping zones separated by 700 $μ$m with fidelities comparable to those of our standard laser-controlled gates. Our scheme imp…
The Coulomb interactions between electrons play important roles in coupling multiple qubits in various quantum systems. Here we demonstrate controlled quantum operations of three electron charge qubits based on three capacitively coupled semiconductor double quantum dots. The strong interactions between one double dot and other two double dots enable us to control the coherent rotations of one target qubit by the states of two control qubits.
