We investigate an entangled deformation of the deterministic quantum cloning process, called enscription, that can be applied to (certain) sets of distinct quantum states which are not necessarily orthogonal, called texts. Some basic theorems on enscribable texts are given, and a relationship to probabilistic quantum cloning is demonstrated.
In the companion to this paper, we described a generalization of the deterministic quantum cloning process, called enscription, which utilizes entanglement in order to achieve the "copying" of (certain) sets of distinct quantum states which are not orthogonal, called texts. Here we provide a further generalization, called translation, which allows us to completely determine all translatable texts, and which displays an intimate relationship to the mathematical theory of graphs.
We prove an upper bound on the diffusivity of a general local and translation invariant quantum Markovian spin system: $D \leq D_0 + \left(α\, v_\text{LR} τ+ β\, ξ\right) v_\text{C}$. Here $v_\text{LR}$ is the Lieb-Robinson velocity, $v_\text{C}$ is a velocity defined by the current operator, $τ$ is the decoherence time, $ξ$ is the range of interactions, $D_0$ is a microscopically determined diffusivity and $α$ and $β$ are precisely defined dimensionless coefficients. The bound constrains quantum transport by quantities that can either be obtained from the microscopic interactions ($D_0, v_\te…
We investigate the holographic bound utilizing a homogeneous, isotropic, and non-relativistic neutral hydrogen gas present in the de Sitter space. Concretely, we propose to employ de Sitter holography intertwined with quantum deformation of the hydrogen atom using the framework of quantum groups. Particularly, the $\mathcal U_q(so(4))$ quantum algebra is used to construct a finite-dimensional Hilbert space of the hydrogen atom. As a consequence of the quantum deformation of the hydrogen atom, we demonstrate that the Rydberg constant is dependent on the de Sitter radius, $L_Λ$. This feature is …
We investigate the quantum temporal steering (TS), i.e., a temporal analogue of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering, in a dephasing channel which is modeled by a central spin half surrounded by a spin-1/2 \textit{XY} chain where quantum phase transition happens. The TS parameter $S_{\text{TS}}$ and the TS weight $W_{\text{TS}}$ are employed to characterize the TS dynamics. We analytically obtain the dependence of $S_{\text{TS}}$ on the decoherence factor. The numerical results show an obvious suppression of $S_{\text{TS}}$ and $W_{\text{TS}}$ when the \textit{XY} chain approaches to the critical …
We introduce a fidelity-based measure $\text{D}_{\text{CQ}}(t)$ to quantify the differences between the dynamics of classical (CW) and quantum (QW) walks over a graph. We provide universal, graph-independent, analytic expressions of this quantum-classical dynamical distance, showing that at short times $\text{D}_{\text{CQ}}(t)$ is proportional to the coherence of the walker, i.e. a genuine quantum feature, whereas for long times it depends only on the size of the graph. At intermediate times, $\text{D}_{\text{CQ}}(t)$ does depend on the graph topology through its algebraic connectivity. Our re…
This paper explores text classification on quantum computers. Previous results have achieved perfect accuracy on an artificial dataset of 100 short sentences, but at the unscalable cost of using a qubit for each word. This paper demonstrates that an amplitude encoded feature map combined with a quantum support vector machine can achieve 62% average accuracy predicting sentiment using a dataset of 50 actual movie reviews. This is still small, but considerably larger than previously-reported results in quantum NLP.
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) is a promising platform for quantum information processing due to its potential to host optically active defects with attractive optical and spin properties. Recent studies suggest that carbon trimers might be the defect responsible for single-photon emission in the visible spectral range in h-BN. In this theoretical study, we combine group theory together with density functional theory (DFT) calculations to predict the properties of the neutral $\text{C}_\text{2}\text{C}_\text{N}$ carbon trimer defect. We find the multi-electron states of this defect along with …
Molecular Nanomagnet $\text{Cu}^\text{II}\text{Ni}^\text{II}\text{Cu}^\text{II}$ as Resource for Bipartite and Tripartite Quantum Entanglement and Coherence
We introduce universal broadband composite pulse sequences for robust high-fidelity population inversion in two-state quantum systems, which compensate deviations in any experimental parameter (e.g. pulse amplitude, pulse duration, detuning from resonance, Stark shifts, unwanted frequency chirp, etc.) and are applicable with any pulse shape. We demonstrate the efficiency and universality of these composite pulses by experimental data on rephasing of atomic coherences in a $\text{Pr}^{3+}\text{:}\text{Y}_2\text{SiO}_5$ crystal.
We study the ability to implement unitary maps on states of the $I=9/2$ nuclear spin in \textsuperscript{87}Sr, a $d=10$ dimensional (qudecimal) Hilbert space, using quantum optimal control. Through a combination of nuclear spin-resonance and a tensor AC-Stark shift, by solely modulating the phase of a radio-frequency magnetic field, the system is quantum controllable. Alkaline earth atoms, such as \textsuperscript{87}Sr, have a very favorable figure-of-merit for such control due to narrow intercombination lines and the large hyperfine splitting in the excited states. We numerically study the …
The problem of representing text documents within an Information Retrieval system is formulated as an analogy to the problem of representing the quantum states of a physical system. Lexical measurements of text are proposed as a way of representing documents which are akin to physical measurements on quantum states. Consequently, the representation of the text is only known after measurements have been made, and because the process of measuring may destroy parts of the text, the document is characterised through erasure. The mathematical foundations of such a quantum representation of text are…

Simple representations of documents based on the occurrences of terms are ubiquitous in areas like Information Retrieval, and also frequent in Natural Language Processing. In this work we propose a logical-probabilistic approach to the analysis of natural language text based in the concept of Uncertain Conditional, on top of a formulation of lexical measurements inspired in the theoretical concept of ideal quantum measurements. The proposed concept can be used for generating topic-specific representations of text, aiming to match in a simple way the perception of a user with a pre-established …
Paramagnetic substitutional carbon (C$_\text{B}$, C$_\text{N}$) defects in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) are discussed as candidates for quantum bits. Their identification and suitability are approached by means of photoluminescence (PL), charge transitions, electron paramagnetic resonance, and optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectra. Several clear trends in these are revealed by means of an efficient plane wave periodic supercell \textit{ab initio} density functional theory approach. In particular, this yields insight into the role of the separation between C$_\text{B}$ and C$_\t…
Achieving near-term quantum advantage will require accurate estimation of quantum observables despite significant hardware noise. For this purpose, we propose a novel, scalable error-mitigation method that applies to gate-based quantum computers. The method generates training data $\{X_i^{\text{noisy}},X_i^{\text{exact}}\}$ via quantum circuits composed largely of Clifford gates, which can be efficiently simulated classically, where $X_i^{\text{noisy}}$ and $X_i^{\text{exact}}$ are noisy and noiseless observables respectively. Fitting a linear ansatz to this data then allows for the prediction…
The newly established Heisenberg limit in arbitrary waveform estimation is quite different with parameter estimation and shows a unique characteristic of a future quantum version of oscilloscope. However, it is still a non-trivial challenge to generate a large number of exotic quantum entangled states to achieve this quantum limit. Here, by employing the time-domain quantum difference detection method, we demonstrate Heisenberg-limited waveform quantum estimation with diamond spins under ambient condition in the experiment. Periodic dynamical decoupling is applied to enhance both the dynamic r…
We investigate a generic discrete quantum system prepared in state $|ψ_\text{in}\rangle$, under repeated detection attempts aimed to find the particle in state $|d\rangle$, for example a quantum walker on a finite graph searching for a node. For the corresponding classical random walk, the total detection probability $P_\text{det}$ is unity. Due to destructive interference, one may find initial states $|ψ_\text{in}\rangle$ with $P_\text{det}<1$. We first obtain an uncertainty relation which yields insight on this deviation from classical behavior, showing the relation between $P_\text{det}$ an…
For any function $f: X \times Y \to Z$, we prove that $Q^{*\text{cc}}(f) \cdot Q^{\text{OIP}}(f) \cdot (\log Q^{\text{OIP}}(f) + \log |Z|) \geq Ω(\log |X|)$. Here, $Q^{*\text{cc}}(f)$ denotes the bounded-error communication complexity of $f$ using an entanglement-assisted two-way qubit channel, and $Q^{\text{OIP}}(f)$ denotes the number of quantum queries needed to learn $x$ with high probability given oracle access to the function $f_x(y) \stackrel{\text{def}}{=} f(x, y)$. We show that this tradeoff is close to the best possible. We also give a generalization of this tradeoff for distribution…
We report experiments on superconducting flux qubits in a circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) setup. Two qubits, independently biased and controlled, are coupled to a coplanar waveguide resonator. Dispersive qubit state readout reaches a maximum contrast of $72\,\%$. We find intrinsic energy relaxation times at the symmetry point of $7\,μ\text{s}$ and $20\,μ\text{s}$ and levels of flux noise of $2.6\,μΦ_0/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ and $2.7\,μΦ_0/\sqrt{\text{Hz}}$ at 1 Hz for the two qubits. We discuss the origin of decoherence in the measured devices. These results demonstrate the potential of cQED…
We observe a dramatic difference in optical line shapes of a $^4\text{He}$ Bose-Einstein condensate and a $^3\text{He}$ degenerate Fermi gas by measuring the 1557-nm $2~^3S-2~^1S$ magnetic dipole transition ($8~\text{Hz}$ natural linewidth) in an optical dipole trap. The $15~\text{kHz}$ FWHM condensate line shape is only broadened by mean field interactions, whereas the degenerate Fermi gas line shape is broadened to $75~\text{kHz}$ FWHM due to the effect of Pauli exclusion on the spatial and momentum distributions. The asymmetric optical line shapes are observed in excellent agreement with li…
There is significant interest in potential experimental tests of macroscopic quantum effects, both to test potential modifications to quantum theory and to probe the quantum nature of gravity. A proposed platform with which to generate the required macroscopic quantum spatial superposition is a nanodiamond containing a negatively charged nitrogen vacancy (${\text{NV}}^{-}$) centre. In this review, methods to fabricate nanodiamonds containing ${\text{NV}}^{-}$ suitable for these quantum applications are discussed. The proposed probes of the macroscopic limits of quantum theory are presented alo…
Mermin square scenario provides a simple proof for state-independent contextuality. In this paper, we study polytopes $\text{MP}_β$ obtained from the Mermin scenario, parametrized by a function $β$ on the set of contexts. Up to combinatorial isomorphism, there are two types of polytopes $\text{MP}_0$ and $\text{MP}_1$ depending on the parity of $β$. Our main result is the classification of the vertices of these two polytopes. In addition, we describe the graph associated with the polytopes. All the vertices of $\text{MP}_0$ turn out to be deterministic. This result provides a new topological p…
