Motivated by recent experiments we analyse the classical dynamics of a hydrogen atom in parallel static and microwave electric fields. Using an appropriate representation and averaging approximations we show that resonant ionisation is controlled by a separatrix, and provide necessary conditions for a dynamical resonance to affect the ionisation probability.
The position of the dynamical resonance is computed using a high-order perturbation series, and estimate its radius of convergence. We show that the position of the dynamical resonance does not coincide precisely with the ionisation maxima, and that the field switch-on time can dramatically affect the ionisation signal which, for long switch times, reflects the shape of an incipient homoclinic. Similarly, the resonance ionisation time can reflect the time-scale of the separatrix motion, which is therefore longer than conventional static field Stark ionisation. We explain why these effects should be observed in the quantum dynamics.

A fresh look at 3D microwave ionization curves of hydrogen Rydberg atoms
分析论证和数值模拟表明,科赫和合作者测量的三维微波电离曲线的形状(见P.M. Koch和K. A. H. van Leeuwen,Phys. Rep.
The aim of the current work is the research of the influence of the \textbf{tilted} magnetic field direction on statistical properties of energy levels of a two-dimensional (2D) hydrogen atom and of an exciton in GaAs/Al$_{0.33}$Ga$_{0.67}$As quantum well. It was discovered that the quantum chaos (QC) is initiated with an increasing angle $α$ between the magnetic field direction and the normal to the atomic plane. QC is characterized by the repulsion of levels leading to the eliminating of the shell structure and by changing the spectrum statistical properties. The evolution of the spatial dis…
Efficient and reversible optical to microwave coherent transducers are required to enable entanglement transfer between superconducting qubits and light for quantum networks. Rare-earth-doped crystals that possess narrow optical and spin transitions are a promising way to implement these devices. Current approaches use ground-state electron spin transitions that have coherence lifetimes ($T_2$) often limited by spin flip-flop processes and/or spectral diffusion, even at very low temperatures. Here, we investigate spin coherence in an optically excited state of an Er$^{3+}$:Y$_2$SiO$_5$ crystal…
Spins in solids are an ideal candidate to act as a memory and interface with superconducting qubits due to their long coherence times. We spectroscopically investigate erbium-167-doped yttrium orthosilicate as a possible microwave-addressed memory employing its microwave frequency transitions that occur without applying an external magnetic field. We obtain coherence times of 380 $μ$s in a ground state spin transition and 1.48 ms in an excited state spin transition. This is 28 times longer compared to previous zero field measurements, as well as 200 times longer than a previous microwave memor…
The mass-correction function is evaluated for selected excited states of the hydrogen molecule within a single-state non-adiabatic treatment. Its qualitative features are studied under the avoided crossing of the $EF$ with the $GK$ state and also for the outer well of the $H\bar{H}$ state. For the $H\bar{H}$ state, a negative mass correction is obtained for the vibrational motion near the outer minimum, which accounts for most of the deviation between experiment and earlier theoretical work.
For rovibronic states corresponding to the $B$ and $B'\ ^1Σ_\text{u}^+$ electronic states of the hydrogen molecule, the pre-Born--Oppenheimer (four-particle) non-relativistic energy is converged to a 1-3 parts-per-billion relative precision. The four-particle non-relativistic energy is appended with leading-order relativistic, leading- and estimated higher-order quantum-electrodynamics corrections. The resulting term values referenced to the rovibronic ground state are obtained in an excellent agreement with the experimental results. Further results are reported and discussed for other rovibro…
We report the first direct observation of the decay of the excited-state population in electrons trapped on the surface of liquid helium. The relaxation dynamics, which are governed by inelastic scattering processes in the system, are probed by the real-time response of the electrons to a pulsed microwave excitation. Comparison with theoretical calculations allows us to establish the dominant mechanisms of inelastic scattering for different temperatures. The longest measured relaxation time is around 1 us at the lowest temperature of 135 mK, which is determined by the inelastic scattering due …
An excited emitter decays by radiating a photon into a quantized mode of the electromagnetic field, a process known as spontaneous emission. If the emitter is driven to a higher excited state, it radiates multiple photons in a cascade decay. Atomic and biexciton cascades have been exploited as sources of polarization-entangled photon pairs. Because the photons are emitted sequentially, their intensities are strongly correlated in time, as measured in a double-beam coincidence experiment. Perhaps less intuitively, their phases can also be correlated, provided a single emitter is deterministical…
