The canonical commutation relations of quantum field theory require all pairs of observables located in spacelike-separated regions to commute. In the theory as it is currently constituted, this implies that the information-carrying capacity of a finite volume of space is infinite. Yet Bekenstein's bound gives us strong reason to believe that it is finite. A class of quantum field theories is presented in which observables localised in spacelike-separated regions do not necessarily commute, but which nevertheless has no physical pathologies.
The `no communication' theorem prohibits superluminal communication by showing that any measurement by Alice on an entangled system cannot change the reduced density matrix of Bob's state, and hence the expectation value of any measurement operator that Bob uses remains the same. We argue that the proof of the `no communication' theorem is incomplete and superluminal communication is possible through state discrimination in a higher-dimensional Hilbert space using ancilla qubits. We propose two quantum algorithms through state discrimantion for communication between two observers Alice and Bob…
In orthodox quantum theory the observables of spacelike separated quantum systems commute. I shall call this the commutation constraint. It severely limits quantum theory's explanatory power. For instance, the constraint cannot be met in the presence of closed timelike curves, leaving us with no choice but to rule them out by fiat. It also conflicts with Bekenstein's bound. Here I investigate a modified quantum theory, unorthodox quantum theory, which is different from the conventional theory only in its omission of this commutation constraint. In particular, I describe a system of unorthodox …
Conditions for the appearance of topological charges are studied in the framework of the universal C*-algebra of the electromagnetic field, which is represented in any theory describing electromagnetism. It is shown that non-trivial topological charges, described by pairs of fields localised in certain topologically non-trivial spacelike separated regions, can appear in regular representations of the algebra only if the fields depend non-linearly on the mollifying test functions. On the other hand, examples of regular vacuum representations with non-trivial topological charges are constructed,…

We show, under a very general set of assumptions, that pairs of identical particle detectors in spacelike separation, such as atomic probes, can only harvest entanglement from the vacuum state of a quantum field when they have a non-zero energy gap. Furthermore, we show that degenerate probes are strongly challenged to become entangled through their interaction through scalar and electromagnetic fields even in full light-contact. We relate these results to previous literature on remote entanglement generation and entanglement harvesting, giving insight into the energy gap's protective role aga…
Detecting spacelike vacuum entanglement at all distances and promoting negativity to a necessary and sufficient entanglement measure in many-body regimes
In the paradigm with a small warped Spacelike Extra Dimensions (SED), the Higgs field is in general localized at a boundary of the SED (TeV-brane) where the gravity scale is redshifted to the TeV by a warp factor. If the SM gauge bosons and fermions propagate into the warped SED, one can generate the mass hierarchy for fermions. It is thus crucial to treat carefully the TeV-brane localized masses for such fermions, which is done in the literature by applying a regularization process suffering from a lack of consistency and more importantly being useless, as we demonstrate in detail in the pres…
Supersymmetric extension of the Deutsch's qubit field theory is presented and a new solution of quantum information paradox via anticommuting qubit-fields condensate is shown.
The concurrence of two alternate qubits in a four-qubit Heisenberg XX chain is investigated when a uniform magnetic field B is included. It is found that there is no thermal entanglement between alternate qubits if B is close to zero. Magnetic field can induce entanglement in a certain range both for the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic cases. Near zero temperature, the entanglement undergoes two sudden changes with increasing value of the magnetic field B. This is due to the changes in the ground state. This novel property may be used as quantum entanglement switch. The anisotropy in the s…
A field configuration utilizing local static and oscillating fields is constructed to achieve universal (but low-order) protection of two-qubit states. That is, two-qubit states can be protected against arbitrary system-environment coupling if the driving field frequency, as compared with the cutoff frequency of the environment, is sufficiently large. Equally important, we show that it is possible to construct driving fields to protect two-qubit entangling gates against decoherence, without assuming any particular form of system-environment coupling. Using a non-Markovian master equation, we f…
Modern quantum information theory deals with an idealized situation when the spacetime dependence of quantum phenomena is neglected. However the transmission and processing of (quantum) information is a physical process in spacetime. Therefore such basic notions in quantum information theory as qubit, channel, composite systems and entangled states should be formulated in space and time. In particlular we suggest that instead of a two level system (qubit) the basic notion in a relativistic quantum information theory should be a notion of an elementary quantum system, i.e. an infinite dimension…
We propose a method for analyzing Berry phase for a multi-qubit system of superconducting charge qubits interacting with a microwave field. By suitably choosing the system parameters and precisely controlling the dynamics, novel connection found between the Berry phase and entanglement creations.
In this work, we provide a model of a moving-qubit interacting with the multimode cavity, where the qubit is driven by the classical field. We obtain the analytic solution of the density operator of the qubit, then investigate the quantum speed limit time(QSLT) and the non-Markovianity based on the classical field and the moving-velocity. The results show that the transition from Markovian to non-Markovian dynamics is the intrinsic physical reason of the quantum speed-up process, both of the driving field and the strong coupling can enhance the non-Markovianity in the dynamics process and spee…
Nonlinear modifications of quantum mechanics generically lead to nonlocal effects which violate relativistic causality. We study these effects using the functional Schrodinger equation for quantum fields and identify a type of nonlocality which causes nearly instantaneous entanglement of spacelike separated systems. We describe a simple example involving widely separated wave-packet (coherent) states, showing that nonlinearity in the Schrodinger evolution causes spacelike entanglement, even in free field theory.
In conformally invariant quantum field theories one encounters besides the standard DHR superselection theory based on spacelike (Einstein-causal) commutation relations and their Haag duality another timelike (''Huygens'') based superselection structure. Whereas the DHR theory based on spacelike causality of observables confirmed the Lagrangian internal symmetry picture on the level of the physical principles of local quantum physics, the attempts to understand the timelike based superselection charges (associated with the center of the conformal covering group) in terms of timelike localized …
We prove that for any two commuting von Neumann algebras of infinite type, the open set of Bell correlated states for the two algebras is norm dense. We then apply this result to algebraic quantum field theory -- where all local algebras are of infinite type -- in order to show that for any two spacelike separated regions, there is an open dense set of field states that dictate Bell correlations between the regions. We also show that any vector state cyclic for one of a pair of commuting nonabelian von Neumann algebras is entangled (i.e., nonseparable) across the algebras -- from which it foll…
To implement quantum information processing, microwave fields are often used to manipulate superconuducting qubits. We study how the coupling between superconducting charge qubits can be controlled by variable-frequency magnetic fields. We also study the effects of the microwave fields on the readout of the charge-qubit states. The measurement of the charge-qubit states can be used to demonstrate the statistical properties of photons.
The establishment of a scalable scheme for quantum computing with addressable and long-lived qubits would be a scientific watershed, harnessing the laws of quantum physics to solve classically intractable problems. The design of many proposed quantum computational platforms is driven by competing needs: isolating the quantum system from the environment to prevent decoherence, and easily and accurately controlling the system with external fields. For example, neutral-atom optical-lattice architectures provide environmental isolation through the use of states that are robust against fluctuating …
The formalism for histories-based generalized quantum mechanics developed in two earlier papers is applied to the treatment of histories (of particles or fields or more general objects) in curved spacetimes (which need not admit foliation in spacelike hypersurfaces). The construction of the space of temporal supports (a partial semigroup generalizing the space of finite time sequences employed in traditional temporal description of histories) employs spacelike subsets of spacetime having dimensionality less than or equal to three. Definition of symmetry is sharpened by the requirement of conti…
As a possible physical realization of a quantum information processor, a system with stacked self-assembled InAs quantum dots buried in GaAs in adjacent to the channel of a spin field-effect transistor has been proposed. In this system, only one of the stacked qubits, i.e. the edge qubit (the qubit closest to the channel), is measurable via "spin-blockade measurement." It is shown that the state tomography of the whole chain of the qubits is still possible even under such a restricted accessibility. The idea is to make use of the entangling dynamics of the qubits. A recipe for the two-qubit sy…
