Lesson 2: We need the resonances to tell one.
An operational arrival-time distribution is defined as the distribution of detection times of the first photons emitted by two level atoms in resonance with a perpendicular laser beam in a time of flight experiment. For ultracold Cesium atoms the simulations are in excellent agreement with the theoretical ideal time-of-arrival distribution of Kijowski.
A relativistic version of the Aharonov-Bohm time of arrival operator for spin-0 particles was constructed by Razavi in [Il Nuovo Cimento B \textbf{63}, 271 (1969)]. We study the operator in detail by taking its rigged Hilbert space extension. It is shown that the rigged Hilbert space extension of the operator provides more insights into the time of arrival problem that goes beyond Razavi's original results. This allows us to use time of arrival eigenfunctions that exhibit unitary arrival to construct time of arrival distributions. The expectation value is also calculated and shown that particl…

We show how quantum coherence effects can be used to improve the resolution and the contrast of diffraction-limited images imprinted onto a probe field. The narrow and sharp spectral features generated by double-dark resonances (DDR) are exploited to control absorption, dispersion and diffraction properties of the medium. The spatial modulated control field can produce inhomoge- neous susceptibility of the medium that encodes the spatial feature of the control image to probe field in the presence of DDR. The transmission of cloned image can be enhanced by use of incoher- ent pump field. We fin…
A time of arrival (TOA) operator that is conjugate with the system Hamiltonian was constructed by Galapon without canonical quantization in [J. Math. Phys. \textbf{45}, 3180 (2004)]. The constructed operator was expressed as an infinite series but only the leading term was investigated which was shown to be equal to the Weyl-quantized TOA-operator for entire analytic potentials. In this paper, we give a full account of the said TOA-operator by explicitly solving all the terms in the expansion. We interpret the terms beyond the leading term as the quantum corrections to the Weyl quantization of…
The light propagation of a probe field pulse in a four-level double-lambda type system driven by laser fields that form a closed interaction loop is studied. Due to the finite frequency width of the probe pulse, a time-independent analysis relying on the multiphoton resonance assumption is insufficient. Thus we apply a Floquet decomposition of the equations of motion to solve the time-dependent problem beyond the multiphoton resonance condition. We find that the various Floquet components can be interpreted in terms of different scattering processes, and that the medium response oscillating in…
In this paper we describe that the optically pumped frequency standards can have frequency stability beyond the quantum noise limit by detecting the Ramsey resonance through the squeezed light. In this paper we report that instead of considering the interaction of entangled atoms in the microwave region, it will be more practical to create the entanglement of the atoms in the detection region using the squeezed light, which is also used for the detection of the Ramsey resonance. The advantage of squeezing can be derived when the technical noises have been removed.
The effect of quantum interference on the optical properties of a pumped-probe three-level V-type atomic system is investigated. The probe absorption, dispersion, group index and optical bistability beyond the two-photon resonance condition are discussed. It is found that the optical properties of a medium in the frequency of the probe field, in general, are phase independent. The phase dependence arises from a scattering of the coupling field into the probe field at a frequency which in general differs from the probe field frequency. It is demonstrated that beyond the two-photon resonance con…
The density matrix equations of motion in near-degenerate three-level V-type closed-loop atomic system are calculated numerically in Floquet frame. The dynamical behavior of atom- photon entanglement between the dressed atom and its spontaneous emission is studied in semi classical approach beyond the two-photon resonance condition in such a system. The quantum entropy of these two subsystems is investigated by using the von Neumann entropy. It is shown that, the degree of entanglement measure (DEM) can be controlled via the intensity and the detuning of coupling optical field and quantum inte…
We discuss how the bath's memory affects the dynamics of a swap gate. We present an exactly solvable model that shows various dynamical transitions when treated beyond the Fermi Golden Rule. By moving continuously a single parameter, the unperturbed Rabi frequency, we sweep through different analytic properties of the density of states: I) collapsed resonances that split at an exceptional point in II) two resolved resonances ; III) out-of-band resonances; IV) virtual states; and V) pure point spectrum. We associate them with distinctive dynamical regimes: overdamped, damped oscillations, envir…

The creation of single collective excitations in atomic ensembles via spontaneous Raman emission plays a key role in several quantum communication protocols, starting with the seminal DLCZ protocol [L.-M.Duan, M.D. Lukin, J.I. Cirac, and P. Zoller, Nature {\bf 414}, 413 (2001).] This process is usually analyzed theoretically under the assumptions that the write laser pulse inducing the Raman transition is far off-resonance, and that the atomic ensemble is only homogeneously broadened. Here we study the impact of near-resonance excitation for inhomogeneously broadened ensembles on the collectiv…
The mesoscopic characteristics of a quantum dot (QD), which make the dipole approximation (DA) break down, provide a new dimension to manipulate light-matter interaction [M. L. Andersen et al., Nat. Phys. 7, 215 (2011)]. Here we investigate the power spectrum and the second-order correlation property of the fluorescence from a resonantly driven QD placed on a planar metal. It is revealed that due to the pronounced QD spatial extension and the dramatic variation of the triggered surface plasmon near the metal, the fluorescence has a notable contribution from the quadrupole moment. The π-rotatio…
We propose a method for optical interferometry in telescope arrays assisted by quantum networks. In our approach, the quantum state of incoming photons along with an arrival time index is stored in a binary qubit code at each receiver. Nonlocal retrieval of the quantum state via entanglement-assisted parity checks at the expected photon arrival rate allows for direct extraction of the phase difference, effectively circumventing transmission losses between nodes. Compared to prior proposals, our scheme (based on efficient quantum data compression) offers an exponential decrease in required enta…
Atoms subject to weak coherent incident light can be treated as coupled classical linear oscillators, supporting subradiant and superradiant collective excitation eigenmodes. We identify the limits of validity of this \emph{linear classical oscillator model} at increasing intensities of the drive by solving the quantum many-body master equation for coherent and incoherent scattering from a chain of trapped atoms. We show that deviations from the linear classical oscillator model depend sensitively on the resonance linewidths $\upsilon_α$ of the collective eigenmodes excited by light, with the …
