We prove the conjectured existence of Bound Information, a classical analog of bound entanglement, in the multipartite scenario. We give examples of tripartite probability distributions from which it is impossible to extract any kind of secret key, even in the asymptotic regime, although they cannot be created by local operations and public communication. Moreover, we show that bound information can be activated: three honest parties can distill a common secret key from different distributions having bound information. Our results demonstrate that quantum information theory can provide useful insight for solving open problems in classical information theory.
We present a scheme to generate a continuous variable (CV) multipartite entangled state using an array of plasmonic graphene waveguides that are activated by nonclassical driving microwave modes. Within this scheme, we can exploit the interaction of two light fields coupled to the same microwave mode in each waveguide to produce any type of multipartite Gaussian entangled state. A teleportation network is illustrated using the resultant CV multipartite entangled state. In particular, the proposed setup enables coherent state teleportation across remotely connected nodes with fidelity above a t…
The multipartite correlations derived from local measurements on some composite quantum systems are inconsistent with those reproduced classically. This inconsistency is known as quantum nonlocality and shows a milestone in the foundations of quantum theory. Still, it is NP hard to decide a nonlocal quantum state. We investigate an extended question: how to characterize the nonlocal properties of quantum states that are distributed and measured in networks. We first prove the generic tripartite nonlocality of chain-shaped quantum networks using semiquantum nonlocal games. We then introduce a n…
We devise a protocol in which general non-classical multipartite correlations produce a physically relevant effect, leading to the creation of bipartite entanglement. In particular, we show that the relative entropy of quantumness, which measures all non-classical correlations among subsystems of a quantum system, is equivalent to and can be operationally interpreted as the minimum distillable entanglement generated between the system and local ancillae in our protocol. We emphasize the key role of state mixedness in maximizing non-classicality: Mixed entangled states can be arbitrarily more n…
We study the concurrence of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum systems. An explicit analytical lower bound of concurrence for four-partite mixed states is obtained in terms of the concurrences of tripartite mixed states. Detailed examples are given to show that our lower bounds improve the existing lower bounds of concurrence. The approach is generalized to five-partite quantum systems.
We study the relation between distillability of multipartite states and violation of Bell's inequality. We prove that there exist multipartite bound entangled states (i.e. non-separable, non-distillable states) that violate a multipartite Bell inequality. This implies that (i) violation of Bell's inequality is not a sufficient condition for distillability and (ii) some bound entangled states cannot be described by a local hidden variable model.
We demonstrate the existence of Gaussian multipartite bound information which is a classical analog of Gaussian multipartite bound entanglement. We construct a tripartite Gaussian distribution from which no secret key can be distilled, but which cannot be created by local operations and public communication. Further, we show that the presence of bound information is conditional on the presence of a part of the adversary's information creatable only by private communication. Existence of this part of the adversary's information is found to be a more generic feature of classical analogs of quant…
We study the entanglement of tripartite quantum states and provide analytical lower bound of concurrence in terms of the concurrence of sub-states. The lower bound may improve all the existing lower bounds of concurrence. The approach is generalized to arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems.
We look into multipartite quantum states on which quantum cryptographic protocols including quantum key distribution and quantum secret sharing can be perfectly performed, and define the quantum cryptographic resource distillable rate as the asymptotic rate at which such multipartite state can be distilled from a given multipartite state. Investigating several relations between entanglement and the rate, we show that there exists a multipartite bound entangled state whose quantum cryptographic resource distillable rate is strictly positive, that is, there exists a multipartite entangled state …
Monogamy relations characterize the distributions of entanglement in multipartite systems. We investigate monogamy relations related to the concurrence C, the entanglement of formation E, negativity Nc and Tsallis-q entanglement Tq. Monogamy relations for the $α$th power of entanglement have been derived, which are tighter than the existing entanglement monogamy relations for some classes of quantum states. Detailed examples are presented.
Given a set of multipartite entangled states, can we find a common state to prepare them by local operations and classical communication? Such a state, if exists, will be a common resource for the given set of states. We completely solve this problem for bipartite pure states case by explicitly constructing a unique optimal common resource state for any given set of states. In the multipartite setting, the general problem becomes quite complicated, and we focus on finding nontrivial common resources for the whole multipartite state space of given dimensions. We show that GHZ_3 is a nontrivial …
We present a lower bound of concurrence for four-partite systems in terms of the concurrence for $M\, (2\leq M\leq 3)$ part quantum systems and give an analytical lower bound for $2\otimes2\otimes2\otimes2$ mixed quantum sates. It is shown that these lower bounds are able to improve the existing bounds and detect entanglement better. Furthermore, our approach can be generalized to multipartite quantum systems.
We study the concurrence of arbitrary-dimensional multipartite quantum states. Analytical lower bounds of concurrence for tripartite quantum states are derived by projecting high-dimensional states to $2\otimes 2\otimes 2$ substates. The results are then generalized to arbitrary multipartite quantum systems. Furthermore, the scheme enables us obtain lower bounds of concurrence for arbitrary four-partite quantum states by projecting high-dimensional states to arbitrary given lower dimensional substates. By detailed examples we show that our results improve the existing lower bounds of concurren…
We present a multipartite nonlocal game in which each player must guess the input received by his neighbour. We show that quantum correlations do not perform better than classical ones at this game, for any prior distribution of the inputs. There exist, however, input distributions for which general no-signalling correlations can outperform classical and quantum correlations. Some of the Bell inequalities associated to our construction correspond to facets of the local polytope. Thus our multipartite game identifies parts of the boundary between quantum and post-quantum correlations of maximal…
A highly entangled bipartite quantum state is more advantageous for the quantum dense coding protocol than states with low entanglement. Such a correspondence, however, does not exist even for pure quantum states in the multipartite domain. We establish a connection between the multiparty capacity of classical information transmission in quantum dense coding and several multipartite quantum correlation measures of the shared state, used in the dense coding protocol. In particular, we show that for the noiseless channel, if multipartite quantum correlations of an arbitrary multipartite state of…
We discuss how to calculate genuine multipartite quantum and classical correlations in symmetric, spatially invariant, mixed $n$-qubit density matrices. We show that the existence of symmetries greatly reduces the amount of free parameters to be optimized in order to find the optimal measurement that minimizes the conditional entropy in the discord calculation. We apply this approach to the states exhibited dynamically during a thermodynamic protocol to extract maximum work. We also apply the symmetry criterion to a wide class of physically relevant cases of spatially homogeneous noise over mu…
In order to study multipartite quantum cryptography, we introduce quantities which vanish on product probability distributions, and which can only decrease if the parties carry out local operations or carry out public classical communication. These ``secrecy monotones'' therefore measure how much secret correlations are shared by the parties. In the bipartite case we show that the mutual information is a secrecy monotone. In the multipartite case we describe two different generalisations of the mutual information, both of which are secrecy monotones. The existence of two distinct secrecy monot…
Concurrence, as one of entanglement measures, is a useful tool to characterize quantum entanglement in various quantum systems. However, the computation of the concurrence involves difficult optimizations and only for the case of two qubits an exact formula was found. We investigate the concurrence of four-qubit quantum states and derive analytical lower bound of concurrence using the multiqubit monogamy inequality. It is shown that this lower bound is able to improve the existing bounds. This approach can be generalized to arbitrary qubit systems. We present an exact formula of concurrence fo…
We study the explicit relation between violation of Bell inequalities and bipartite distillability of multi-qubit states. It has been shown that even though for $N\ge 8$ there exist $N$-qubit bound entangled states which violates a Bell inequality [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 230402 (2001)], for all the states violating the inequality there exists at least one splitting of the parties into two groups such that pure-state entanglement can be distilled [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 88}, 027901 (2002)]. We here prove that for all $N$-qubit states violating the inequality the number of distillable biparti…
Resource theory of quantum coherence originated like entanglement in quantum information theory. However, still now proper classification of quantum states is missing under coherence. In this work, we have provided a classification of states under local incoherent operations. We have succeeded in deriving the necessary and sufficient condition for which two pure multipartite states are equivalent under stochastic local incoherent operations and classical communications (SLICC) and local incoherent operations and classical communications (LICC). In particular, we have succeeded in characterizin…
Dür [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 230402 (2001)] constructed $N$-qubit bound entangled states which violate a Bell inequality for $N\ge 8$, and his result was recently improved by showing that there exists an $N$-qubit bound entangled state violating the Bell inequality if and only if $N\ge 6$ [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 79}, 032309 (2009)]. On the other hand, it has been also shown that the states which Dür considered violate Bell inequalities different from the inequality for $N\ge 6$. In this paper, by employing different forms of Bell inequalities, in particular, a specific form of Bell inequalities …
We show that an arbitrary basis of a multipartite quantum state space consisting of $K$ distant parties such that the $k$th party has local dimension $d_k$ always contains at least $N=\sum_{k=1}^K (d_k-1)+1$ members that are unambiguously distinguishable using local operations and classical communication (LOCC). We further show this lower bound is optimal by analytically constructing a special product basis having only $N$ members unambiguously distinguishable by LOCC. Interestingly, such a special product basis not only gives a stronger form of the weird phenomenon ``nonlocality without entan…
Conference key agreement (CKA), or multipartite key distribution, is a cryptographic task where more than two parties wish to establish a common secret key. A composition of bipartite quantum key distribution protocols can accomplish this task. However, the existence of multipartite quantum correlations allows for new and potentially more efficient protocols, to be applied in future quantum networks. Here, we review the existing quantum CKA protocols based on multipartite entanglement, both in the device-dependent and the device-independent scenario.
A special feature of the ground state in a topologically ordered phase is the existence of large scale correlations depending only on the topology of the regions. These correlations can be detected by the topological entanglement entropy or by a measure called irreducible correlation. We show that these two measures coincide for states obeying an area law and having zero-correlation length. Moreover, we provide an operational meaning for these measures by proving its equivalence to the optimal rate of a particular class of secret sharing protocols. This establishes an information-theoretical a…
Entanglement plays a crucial role in the security of quantum key distribution. A secret key can only be obtained by two parties if there exists a corresponding entanglement-based description of the protocol in which entanglement is witnessed, as shown by Curty et al (2004). Here we investigate the role of entanglement for the generalization of quantum key distribution to the multipartite scenario, namely conference key agreement. In particular, we ask whether the strongest form of multipartite entanglement, namely genuine multipartite entanglement, is necessary to establish a conference key. W…
Multipartite quantum correlations are important resources for the development of quantum information and computation protocols. However, the resourcefulness of multipartite quantum correlations in practical settings is limited by its fragility under decoherence due to environmental interactions. Though there exist protocols to protect bipartite entanglement under decoherence, the implementation of such protocols for multipartite quantum correlations has not been sufficiently explored. Here, we study the effect of local amplitude damping channel on the generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger st…
In this paper we show that, given $k\geq 3$, there exist $k$-player quantum XOR games for which the entangled bias can be arbitrarily larger than the bias of the game when the players are restricted to separable strategies. In particular, quantum entanglement can be a much more powerful resource than local operations and classical communication to play these games. This result shows a strong contrast to the bipartite case, where it was recently proved that the entangled bias is always upper bounded by a universal constant times the one-way classical communication bias.
Telecloning and its reverse process, referred to as remote information concentration(RIC), have attracted considerable interest because of their potential applications in quantum-information processing. We here present a general scheme for RIC in d-level systems (qudits), in which the quantum information initially distributed in many spatially separated qudits can be remotely and deterministically concentrated to a single qudit via an entangled channel without performing any global operations. We show that the entangled channel of RIC can be different types of entangled states, including mixed…
Monogamy relations characterize the distributions of quantum entanglement in multipartite systems. In this work, we present some tighter monogamy relations in terms of the power of the Tsallis-q and Rényi-$α$ entanglement in multipartite systems. We show that these new monogamy relations of multipartite entanglement with tighter lower bounds than the existing ones. Furthermore, three examples are given to illustrate the tightness.
A pure quantum state is called $k$-uniform if all its reductions to $k$-qudit are maximally mixed. We investigate the general constructions of $k$-uniform pure quantum states of $n$ subsystems with $d$ levels. We provide one construction via symmetric matrices and the second one through classical error-correcting codes. There are three main results arising from our constructions. Firstly, we show that for any given even $n\ge 2$, there always exists an $n/2$-uniform $n$-qudit quantum state of level $p$ for sufficiently large prime $p$. Secondly, both constructions show that their exist $k$-uni…
Quantum entanglement is of central importance to quantum computing, quantum metrology, quantum information as well as the nature of quantum physics. Quantum theory does not prevent entanglement from being created and observed in macroscopic physical systems, in reality however, the accessible scale of entanglement is still very limited due to decoherence effects. Recently, entanglement has been observed among atoms from thousands to millions level in extremely low-temperature and well-isolated systems. Here, we create multipartite entanglement of billions of motional atoms in a quantum memory …
Bipartite entanglement entropy of a segment with the length $l$ in $1+1$ dimensional conformal field theories (CFT) follows the formula $S=\frac{c}{3}\ln l+γ$, where $c$ is the central charge of the CFT and $γ$ is a cut-off dependent constant which diverges in the absence of an ultraviolet cutoff. According to this formula, systems with larger central charges have {\it{more}} bipartite entanglement entropy. Using quantum Fisher information (QFI), we argue that systems with bigger central charges not only have larger bipartite entanglement entropy but also have more multipartite entanglement co…
