Ray chaos in optical cavities based upon standard laser mirrors

We present a composite optical cavity made of standard laser mirrors; the cavity consists of a suitable combination of stable and unstable cavities. In spite of its very open nature the composite cavity shows ray chaos, which may be either soft or hard, depending on the cavity configuration. This opens a new, convenient route for experimental studies of the quantum aspects of a chaotic wave field.

Nonreciprocity light propagation in coupled microcavities system beyond weak-excitation approximation

We propose an alternative scheme for nonreciprocal light propagation in two coupled cavities system, in which a two-level quantum emitter is coupled to one of the optical microcavities. For the case of parity-time (\textrm{PT}) system (i.e., active-passive coupled cavities system), the cavity gain can significantly enhance the optical nonlinearity induced by the interaction between a quantum emitter and cavity field beyond weak-excitation approximation. High-Frequency Gravitational-Wave Detection Using a Chiral Resonant Mechanical Element and a Short Unstable Optical Cavity

Present gravitational wave detectors are based on the measurement of linear displacement in stable optical cavities. Here, we instead suggest the measurement of the twist of a chiral mechanical element induced by a gravitational wave. The induced twist rotates a flat optical mirror on top of this chiral element, leading to the deflection of an incident laser beam.
