We report an experimental demonstration of Schumacher's quantum noiseless coding theorem. Our experiment employs a sequence of single photons each of which represents three qubits. We initially prepare each photon in one of a set of 8 non-orthogonal codeword states corresponding to the value of a block of three binary letters. We use quantum coding to compress this quantum data into a two-qubit quantum channel and then uncompress the two-qubit channel to restore the original data with a fidelity approaching the theoretical limit.

Experimental demonstration of tripartite entanglement and controlled dense coding for continuous variables

A tripartite entangled state of bright optical field is experimentally produced using an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entangled state for continuous variables and linear optics. Experimental demonstration of entanglement assisted coding using a two-mode squeezed vacuum state

We have experimentally realized the scheme initially proposed as quantum dense coding with continuous variables [Ban, J. Opt. B \textbf{1}, L9 (1999), and Braunstein and Kimble, \pra\textbf{61}, 042302 (2000)]. In our experiment, a pair of EPR (Einstein-Podolski-Rosen) beams is generated from two independent squeezed vacua. Superdense coding over optical fiber links with complete Bell-state measurements

Adopting quantum communication to modern networking requires transmitting quantum information through fiber-based infrastructure. We report the first demonstration of superdense coding over optical fiber links, taking advantage of a complete Bell-state measurement enabled by time-polarization hyperentanglement, linear optics, and common single-photon detectors. We demonstrate the highest single-qubit channel capacity to date utilizing linear optics, $1.665 \pm 0.018$, and we provide a full experimental implementation of a hybrid, quantum-classical communication protocol for image transfer.

Experimental Demonstration of a Quantum Controlled-SWAP Gate with Multiple Degrees of Freedom of a Single Photon

Optimizing the physical realization of quantum gates is important to build a quantum computer. The controlled-SWAP gate, also named Fredkin gate, can be widely applicable in various quantum information processing schemes. In the present research, we propose and experimentally implement quantum Fredkin gate in a single-photon hybrid-degrees-of-freedom system. Entanglement Witness Derived from NMR Superdense Coding

We show that it is possible to transfer two-bit information via encoding a single qubit in a conventional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiment with two very weakly polarized nuclear spins. In this paper the quantum source coding theorem is obtained for a completely ergodic source. This results extends Shannon's classical theorem as well as Schumacher's quantum noiseless coding theorem for memoryless sources. Exponents of quantum fixed-length pure state source coding

We derive the optimal exponent of the error probability of the quantum fixed-length pure state source coding in both cases of blind coding and visible coding. The optimal exponent is universally attained by Jozsa et al. (PRL, 81, 1714 (1998))'s universal code. In the direct part, a group representation theoretical type method is essential. Quantum sources and a quantum coding theorem

We define a large class of quantum sources and prove a quantum analog of the asymptotic equipartition property. Our proof relies on using local measurements on the quantum source to obtain an associated classical source. The classical source provides an upper bound for the dimension of the relevant subspace of the quantum source, via the Shannon-McMillan noiseless coding theorem. Generation of perfect W-state and demonstration of its application to quantum information splitting

We report the first experimental realization of perfect W-state in a superconducting qubit based system. In contrast to maximally entangled state, the perfect W state is different in weights and phases of the terms contained in the maximally entangled W-state. Superdense Coding Interleaved with Forward Error Correction

Superdense coding promises increased classical capacity and communication security but this advantage may be undermined by noise in the quantum channel. We present a numerical study of how forward error correction (FEC) applied to the encoded classical message can be used to mitigate against quantum channel noise. By studying the bit error rate under different FEC codes, we identify the unique role that burst errors play in superdense coding, and we show how these can be mitigated against by interleaving the FEC codewords prior to transmission. We consider the problem of source compression under three different scenarios in the one-shot (non- asymptotic) regime. Duality between source coding with quantum side information and c-q channel coding

In this paper, we establish an interesting duality between two different quantum information-processing tasks, namely, classical source coding with quantum side information, and channel coding over c-q channels.
