We present a quantization scheme of an arbitrary measure space based on overcomplete families of states and generalizing the Klauder and the Berezin-Toeplitz approaches. This scheme could reveal itself as an efficient tool for quantizing physical systems for which more traditional methods like geometric quantization are uneasy to implement. The procedure is illustrated by (mostly two-dimensional) elementary examples in which the measure space is a $N$-element set and the unit interval. Spaces of states for the $N$-element set and the unit interval are the 2-dimensional euclidean $\R^2$ and hermitian $\C^2$ planes.
For phase-space manifolds which are compact Kaehler manifolds relations between the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and the quantization with the help of Berezin's coherent states and symbols are studied. First the results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact Kaehler manifolds due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are recalled. It is shown that the covariant symbol map is adjoint to the Toeplitz map. The Berezin transform for compact Kaehler manifolds is discussed. We investigate a class of operators resulting from a quantization scheme attributed to Berezin. These so-called Berezin-Toeplitz operators are defined on a Hilbert space of square-integrable holomorphic sections in a line bundle over the classical phase space. As a first goal we develop self-adjointness criteria for Berezin-Toeplitz operators defined via quadratic forms. Then, following a concept of Daubechies and Klauder, the semigroups generated by these operators may under certain conditions be represented in the form of Wiener-regularized path integrals. More explicitly, the integration is…
In this lecture results on the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization of arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds are presented. These results are obtained in joint work with M. Bordemann and E. Meinrenken. The existence of the Berezin-Toeplitz deformation quantization is also covered. Recent results obtained in joint work with A. Karabegov on the asymptotic expansion of the Berezin transform for arbitrary quantizable compact Kaehler manifolds are explained. As an application the asymptotic expansion of the Fubini-Study fundamental form under the coherent state embedding is considered. Some comm…
We generalize some earlier results on a Berezin-Toeplitz type of quantization on Hilbert spaces built over certain matrix domains. In the present, wider setting, the theory could be applied to systems possessing several kinematic and internal degrees of freedom. Our analysis leads to an identification of those observables, in this general context, which admit a semi-classical limit and those for which no such limit exists. It turns out that the latter class of observables involve the internal degrees of freedom in an intrinsic way. Mathematically, the theory, being a generalization of the stan…
For arbitrary compact quantizable Kaehler manifolds it is shown how a natural formal deformation quantization (star product) can be obtained via Berezin-Toeplitz operators. Results on their semi-classical behaviour (their asymptotic expansion) due to Bordemann, Meinrenken and Schlichenmaier are used in an essential manner. It is shown that the star product is null on constants and fulfills parity. A trace is constructed and the relation to deformation quantization by geometric quantization is given.
We give a complete identification of the deformation quantization which was obtained from the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization on an arbitrary compact Kaehler manifold. The deformation quantization with the opposite star-product proves to be a differential deformation quantization with separation of variables whose classifying form is explicitly calculated. Its characteristic class (which classifies star-products up to equivalence) is obtained. The proof is based on the microlocal description of the Szegoe kernel of a strictly pseudoconvex domain given by Boutet de Monvel and Sjoestrand.
We consider Berezin-Toeplitz operators on compact Kahler manifolds whose symbols are characteristic functions. When the support of the characteristic function has a smooth boundary, we prove a two-term Weyl law, the second term being proportional to the Riemannian volume of the boundary. As a consequence, we deduce the area law for the entanglement entropy of integer quantum Hall states. Another application is for the determinantal processes with correlation kernel the Bergman kernels of a positive line bundle : we prove that the number of points in a smooth domain is asymptotically normal.
Notions and results from quantum harmonic analysis, such as the convolution between functions and operators or between two operators, is identified as the appropriate setting for Berezin quantization and Berezin-Lieb inequalities. Based on this insight we provide a rigorous approach to generalized phase-space representation introduced by Klauder-Skagerstam and their variants of Berezin-Lieb inequalities in this setting. Hence our presentation of the results of Klauder-Skagerstam gives a more conceptual framework, which yields as a byproduct an interesting perspective on the connection between …
The Berezin--Simon (BS) quantization is a rigorous version of the ``operator formalism'' of quantization procedure. The goal of the paper is to present a rigorous real-time (not imaginary-time) path-integral formalism corresponding to the BS operator formalism of quantization; Here we consider the classical systems whose phase space $M$ is a (possibly non-compact) Kähler manifold which satisfies some conditions, with a Hamiltonian $H:M\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$. For technical reasons, we consider only the cases where $H$ is smooth and bounded. We use Güneysu's extended version of the Feynman--Kac …
The theory of Toeplitz quantization presented in our previous paper is extended and further developed to include diverse and interesting non-commutative realizations of the classical Euclidean plane. This is done using Hilbert spaces of entire functions, where polynomials in one complex variable form a dense subspace. The complex coordinate naturally acts as an unbounded multiplication operator generating, together with its adjoint, a highly non-commutative *-algebra of operators. The Toeplitz operators are then geometrically constructed as special elements from this algebra; they are associat…
Toeplitz quantization is defined in a general setting in which the symbols are the elements of a possibly non-commutative algebra with a conjugation and a possibly degenerate inner product. We show that the quantum group $SU_q(2)$ is such an algebra. Unlike many quantization schemes, this Toeplitz quantization does not require a measure. The theory is based on the mathematical structures defined and studied in several recent papers of the author; those papers dealt with some specific examples of this new Toeplitz quantization. Annihilation and creation operators are defined as densely defined …
This note is a follow-up to a recent paper by the author. Most of that theory is now realized in a new setting where the vector space of symbols is not necessarily an algebra nor is it equipped with an inner product, although it does have a conjugation. As in the previous paper one does not need to put a measure on this vector space. A Toeplitz quantization is defined and shown to have most of the properties as in the previous paper, including creation and annihilation operators. As in the previous paper this theory is implemented by densely defined Toeplitz operators which act in a Hilbert sp…
We investigate two aspects of the elementary example of POVMs on the Euclidean plane, namely their status as quantum observables and their role as quantizers in the integral quantization procedure. The compatibility of POVMs in the ensuing quantum formalism is discussed, and a Naimark dilation is found for the quantum operators. The relation with Toeplitz quantization is explained. A physical situation is discussed, where we describe the linear polarization of the light with the use of Stokes parameters. In particular, the case of sequential measurements in a real bidimensional Hilbert space i…
The algebraic properties of a strict deformation quantization are analysed on the classical phase space $\bR^{2n}$. The corresponding quantization maps enable us to take the limit for $\hbar \to 0$ of a suitable sequence of algebraic vector states induced by $\hbar$-dependent eigenvectors of several quantum models, in which the sequence converges to a probability measure on $\bR^{2n}$, defining a classical algebraic state. The observables are here represented in terms of a Berezin quantization map which associates classical observables (functions on the phase space) to quantum observables (ele…
Usually the only difference between relativistic quantization and standard one is that the Lagrangian of the system under consideration should be Lorentz invariant. The standard approaches are logically incomplete and produce solutions with unpleasant properties: negative-energy, superluminal propagation etc. We propose a two-projections scheme of (special) relativistic quantization. The first projection defines the quantization procedure (e.g. the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization). The second projection defines a casual structure of the relativistic system (e.g. the operator of multiplication by…
Continuing our earlier investigation of the Hermite case [J. Math. Phys. 55 (2014), 042102], we study an unorthodox variant of the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization scheme associated with Laguerre polynomials. In particular, we describe a "Laguerre analogue" of the classical Fock (Segal-Bargmann) space and the relevant semi-classical asymptotics of its Toeplitz operators; the former actually turns out to coincide with the Hilbert space appearing in the construction of the well-known Barut-Girardello coherent states. Further extension to the case of Legendre polynomials is likewise discussed.
