Conventional Bell and Stirling numbers arise naturally in the normal ordering of simple monomials in boson operators. By extending this process we obtain generalizations of these combinatorial numbers, defined as coherent state matrix elements of arbitrary monomials, as well as the associated Dobinski relations. These Bell-type numbers may be considered as power moments and give rise to positive measures which allow the explicit construction of new classes of coherent states.
We derive explicit formulas for the normal ordering of powers of arbitrary monomials of boson operators. These formulas lead to generalisations of conventional Bell and Stirling numbers and to appropriate generalisations of the Dobinski relations. These new combinatorial numbers are shown to be coherent state matrix elements of powers of the monomials in question. It is further demonstrated that such Bell-type numbers, when considered as power moments, give rise to positive measures on the positive half-axis, which in many cases can be written in terms of known functions.
We consider properties of the operators D(r,M)=a^r(a^†a)^M (which we call generalized Laguerre-type derivatives), with r=1,2,..., M=0,1,..., where a and a^†are boson annihilation and creation operators respectively, satisfying [a,a^†]=1. We obtain explicit formulas for the normally ordered form of arbitrary Taylor-expandable functions of D(r,M) with the help of an operator relation which generalizes the Dobinski formula. Coherent state expectation values of certain operator functions of D(r,M) turn out to be generating functions of combinatorial numbers. In many cases the corresponding combina…
For any function F(x) having a Taylor expansion we solve the boson normal ordering problem for F[(a*)^r a^s], with r,s positive integers,[a,a*]=1, i.e. we provide exact and explicit expressions for its normal form which has all a's to the right. The solution involves integer sequences of numbers which, for r,s >=1, are generalizations of the conventional Bell and Stirling numbers whose values they assume for r=s=1. A complete theory of such generalized combinatorial numbers is given including closed-form expressions (extended Dobinski - type formulas), recursion relations and generating functi…
An extended coherent state for describing a system of two interacting quanum objects is considered. A modified perturbation theory based on using the extended coherent states is formulated.
We investigate the ground state behavior of the Dicke-Hubbard model including counter-rotating-terms. By generalizing an extended coherent state approach within mean-field theory, we self-consistently obtain the ground state energy and delocalized order parameter. Localization-delocalization quantum phase transition of photons is clearly observed by breaking the parity symmetry. Particularly, Mott lobes are fully suppressed, and the delocalized order parameter shows monotonic enhancement by increasing qubit-cavity coupling strength, in sharp contrast to the Dicke-Hubbard model under rotating-w…
Coherent control of collective spontaneous emission in an extended atomic ensemble resonantly interacting with single-photon wave packets is analyzed. A scheme for coherent manipulation of collective atomic states is developed such that superradiant states of the atomic system can be converted into subradiant ones and vice versa. Possible applications of such a scheme for optical quantum state storage and single-photon wave packet shaping are discussed. It is shown that also in the absence of inhomogeneous broadening of the resonant line, single-photon wave packets with arbitrary pulse shape m…
A quantum computing system is typically represented by a set of non-interacting (local) two-state systems - qubits. Many physical systems can naturally have more accessible states, both local and non-local. We show that the resulting non-local network of states connecting qubits can be efficiently addressed via continuous time quantum random walks, leading to substantial speed-up of multiqubit entanglement manipulations. We discuss a three-qubit Toffoli gate and a system of superconducting qubits as an illustration.
We study the formation and dynamics of the bound pair (BP) and bound triple (BT) in strongly correlated extended Hubbard model for both Bose and Fermi systems. We find that the bandwidths of the BP and BT gain significantly when the on-site and nearest-neighbor interaction strengths reach the corresponding resonant points. This allows the fast transfer and efficient coherent separation of the BP and BT. The exact result shows that the success probability of the coherent separation is unity in the optimal system. In Fermi system, this finding can be applied to create distant entanglement withou…
This is a continuation of the paper (quant-ph/0009012). In this letter we extend coherent operators and study some basic properties (the disentangling formula, resolution of unity, commutation relation, etc). We also propose a perspective of our work.
Recently a $f$-deformed Fock space which is spanned by $|n>_λ$ has been introduced. These bases are indeed the eigen-states of a deformed non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. In this contribution, we will use a rather new non-orthogonal basis vectors for the construction of coherent and squeezed states, which in special case lead to the earlier known states. For this purpose, we first generalize the previously introduced Fock space spanned by $|n>_λ$ bases, to a new one, spanned by an extended two-parameters bases $|n>_{λ_{1},λ_{2}}$. These bases are now the eigen-states of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian $…
Two new types of coherent states associated with the C_λ-extended oscillator, where C_λ is the cyclic group of order λ, are introduced. The first ones include as special cases both the Barut-Girardello and the Perelomov su(1,1) coherent states for λ=2, as well as the annihilation-operator coherent states of the C_λ-extended oscillator spectrum generating algebra for higher λvalues. The second ones, which are eigenstates of the C_λ-extended oscillator annihilation operator, extend to higher λvalues the paraboson coherent states, to which they reduce for λ=2. All these states satisfy a unity res…
The $C_λ$-extended oscillator spectrum generating algebra is shown to be a $C_λ$-extended $(λ-1)$th-degree polynomial deformation of su(1,1). Its coherent states are constructed. Their statistical and squeezing properties are studied in detail. Such states include both some Barut-Girardello and the standard $λ$-photon coherent states as special cases.
Two new types of coherent states associated with the $C_λ$-extended oscillator, where $C_λ$ is the cyclic group of order $λ$, are introduced. They satisfy a unity resolution relation in the $C_λ$-extended oscillator Fock space (or in some subspace thereof) and give rise to Bargmann representations of the latter, wherein the generators of the $C_λ$-extended oscillator algebra are realized as differential-operator-valued matrices.
We fabricate an extremely thin optical fiber that supports a super-extended mode with a diameter as large as 13 times the optical wavelength, residing almost entirely outside the fiber and guided over thousands of wavelengths (5 mm), in order to couple guided light to warm atomic vapor. This unique configuration balances between strong confinement, as evident by saturation powers as low as tens of nW, and long interaction times with the thermal atoms, thereby enabling fast and coherent interactions. We demonstrate narrow coherent resonances (tens of MHz) of electromagnetically induced transpar…
The quantum Rabi model can be solved exactly by the Bargmann transformation from real coordinate to complex variable recently [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{107}, 100401 (2011)]. By the extended coherent states, we recover this solution in an alternative simpler and perhaps more physical way without uses of any extra conditions, like Bargmann conditions. In the same framework, the two-photon Rabi model are solved exactly by extended squeeze states. Transcendental functions have been derived with the similar form as those in one-photon model. Both extended coherent states and squeeze states are esse…
Nonstationary pump-probe interaction between short laser pulses propagating in a resonant optically dense coherent medium is considered. A special attention is paid to the case, where the density of two-level particles is high enough that a considerable part of the energy of relatively weak external laser-fields can be coherently absorbed and reemitted by the medium. Thus, the field of medium reaction plays a key role in the interaction processes, which leads to the collective behavior of an atomic ensemble in the strongly coupled light-matter system. Such behavior results in the fast excitati…
We construct generalized coherent states for the rationally extended Scarf-I potential. Statistical and geometrical properties of these states are investigated. Special emphasis is given to the study of spatio-temporal properties of the coherent states via the quantum carpet structure and the auto-correlation function. Through this study, we aim to find the signature of the `"rationalisation" of the conventional potentials and the classical orthogonal polynomials.
We propose an extended version of supersymmetric quantum mechanics which can be useful if the Hamiltonian of the physical system under investigation is not Hermitian. The method is based on the use of two, in general different, superpotentials. Bi-coherent states of the Gazeau-Klauder type are constructed and their properties are analyzed. Some examples are also discussed, including an application to the Black-Scholes equation, one of the most important equations in Finance.
Coherence properties of Bose-Einstein condensates offer the potential for improved interferometric phase contrast. However, decoherence effects due to the mean-field interaction shorten the coherence time, thus limiting potential sensitivity. In this work, we demonstrate increased coherence times with number squeezed states in an optical lattice using the decay of Bloch oscillations to probe the coherence time. We extend coherence times by a factor of 2 over those expected with coherent state BEC interferometry. We observe quantitative agreement with theory both for the degree of initial numbe…
The prospect of coherent dynamics and excitonic delocalization across several light-harvesting structures in photosynthetic membranes is of considerable interest, but challenging to explore experimentally. Here we demonstrate theoretically that the excitonic delocalization across extended domains involving several light-harvesting complexes can lead to unambiguous signatures in the optical response, specifically, linear absorption spectra. We characterize, under experimentally established conditions of molecular assembly and protein-induced inhomogeneities, the optical absorption in these arra…
Coherent hopping of excitation rely on quantum coherence over physically extended states. In this work, we consider simple models to examine the effect of symmetries of delocalized multi-excitation states on the dynamical timescales, including hopping rates, radiative decay, and environmental interactions. While the decoherence (pure dephasing) rate of an extended state over N sites is comparable to that of a non-extended state, superradiance leads to a factor of N enhancement in decay and absorption rates. In addition to superradiance, we illustrate how the multi-excitonic states exhibit `sup…
Characteristic uncertainty relations and their related squeezed states are briefly reviewed and compared in accordance with the generalizations of three equivalent definitions of the canonical coherent states. The standard SU(1,1) coherent states are shown to be the unique states that minimize the Schroedinger uncertainty relation for every pair of the three generators and the Robertson relation for the three generators. The characteristic uncertainty inequalities are naturally extended to the case of several states. It is shown that these inequalities can be written in the equivalent compleme…
The three ways of generalization of canonical coherent states are briefly reviewed and compared with the emphasis laid on the (minimum) uncertainty way. The characteristic uncertainty relations, which include the Schroedinger and Robertson inequalities, are extended to the case of several states. It is shown that the standard SU(1,1) and SU(2) coherent states are the unique states which minimize the second order characteristic inequality for the three generators. A set of states which minimize the Schroedinger inequality for the Hermitian components of the su_q(1,1) ladder operator is also con…
