We construct asymptotic expansions of Laplace type for the time-dependent quantum averages for Bose systems with many degrees of freedom, initially populated in coherent states. These solutions are localized in phase space, and they are different from the usual oscillating asymptotics for the quasi-classical wave functions. These expansions are valid on any fixed time interval, and caustics do not contribute to the asymptotics.
We study the distribution of energy level spacings in two models describing coupled single-mode Bose-Einstein condensates. Both models have a fixed number of degrees of freedom, which is small compared to the number of interaction parameters, and is independent of the dimensionality of the Hilbert space. We find that the distribution follows a universal Poisson form independent of the choice of coupling parameters, which is indicative of the integrability of both models. These results complement those for integrable lattice models where the number of degrees of freedom increases with increasin…
We propose a tomographic scheme to reconstruct the quantum state of a Bose-Einstein condensate, exploiting the radiation field as a probe and considering the atomic internal degrees of freedom. The density matrix in the number state basis can be directly retrieved from the atom counting probabilities.
Entanglement is at the core of quantum information processing and may prove essential for quantum speed-up. Inspired by both theoretical and experimental studies of spin-momentum coupling in systems of ultra-cold atoms, we investigate the entanglement between the spin and momentum degrees of freedom of an optically trapped BEC of $^{87}$Rb atoms. We consider entanglement that arises due to the coupling of these degrees of freedom induced by Raman and radio-frequency fields and examine its dependence on the coupling parameters by evaluating von Neumann entropy as well as concurrence as measures…
In this paper the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree for bosons method (MCTDHB) is derived for the case of $N$ identical bosons with internal degrees of freedom. The theory for bosons with internal degrees of freedom constitutes a generalization of the MCTDHB method that substantially enriches the many-body physics that can be described. We demonstrate that the numerically exact solution of the time-dependent many-body Schrödinger equation for interacting bosonic particles with internal degrees of freedom is now feasible. We report on the MCTDHB equations of motion for bosons with int…
The conventional conception of decoherence relies on the interaction with an external set of degrees of freedom - the 'bath' - to which the system loses quantum information. But the role of the bath can be played too by any internal degrees of freedom that are not accessible to the observer, and in this sense we can talk about 'Self-Induced Decoherence'. Simulating the exact time-evolution of the few-body Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian, we provide numerical evidence of the decay of quantum purity in the sense of 'temporal typicality' referred in the context of pure state Quantum Statistical Mechanic…
The composite systems can be non-uniquely decomposed into parts (subsystems). Not all decompositions (structures) of a composite system are equally physically relevant. In this paper we answer on theoretical ground why it may be so. We consider a pair of mutually un-coupled modes in the phase space representation that are subjected to the independent quantum amplitude damping channels. By investigating asymptotic dynamics of the degrees of freedom, we find that the environment is responsible for the structures non-equivalence. Only one structure is distinguished by both locality of the environ…
We analytically investigate the recently proposed and implemented discrete-time quantum walk based on a kicked Bose-Einstein condensate. We extend previous work on the effective dynamics by taking into account spontaneous emission due to the kicking light. Spontaneous emission affects both the internal and external degrees of freedom, arising from the entanglement between them during the walk dynamics. The result is a measurable degrading of the experimental walk signal that we characterise.
We present a toy model for interacting matter and geometry that explores quantum dynamics in a spin system as a precursor to a quantum theory of gravity. The model has no a priori geometric properties, instead, locality is inferred from the more fundamental notion of interaction between the matter degrees of freedom. The interaction terms are themselves quantum degrees of freedom so that the structure of interactions and hence the resulting local and causal structures are dynamical. The system is a Hubbard model where the graph of the interactions is a set of quantum evolving variables. We sho…
Squeezed states, a special kind of entangled states, are known as a useful resource for quantum metrology. In interferometric sensors they allow to overcome the "classical" projection noise limit stemming from the independent nature of the individual photons or atoms within the interferometer. Motivated by the potential impact on metrology as wells as by fundamental questions in the context of entanglement, a lot of theoretical and experimental effort has been made to study squeezed states. The first squeezed states useful for quantum enhanced metrology have been proposed and generated in quan…
The so-called μ-deformed oscillator (or μ-oscillator) introduced by A.Jannussis, though possesses rather exotic properties with respect to other better known deformed oscillator models, also has good potential for diverse physical applications. In this paper, the corresponding μ-Bose gas model based on μ-oscillators is explored. Within this model, the intercepts λ^(2)(K) and λ^(3)(K) of two- and three-particle momentum correlation functions are calculated with the goal of possible application for modeling the non-Bose type behavior of the intercepts of two- and three-pion correlations, observe…
The internal degrees of freedom provided by ultracold atoms give a route for realizing higher dimensional physics in systems with limited spatial dimensions. Non-spatial degrees of freedom in these systems are dubbed "synthetic dimensions". This connection is useful from an experimental standpoint but complicated by the fact that interactions alter the condensate ground state. Here we use the Gross-Pitaevskii equation to study ground state properties of a spin-1 Bose gas under the combined influence of an optical lattice, spin-orbit coupling, and interactions at the mean field level. The assoc…
A method is proposed to implement a fast frictionless dynamics in a low-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate by engineering the time-dependence of the transverse confining potential in a highly anisotropic trap. The method exploits the inversion of the dynamical self-similar scaling law in the radial degrees of freedom. We discuss the application of the method to preserve short-range correlations in time of flight experiments, the implementation of nearly-sudden quenches of non-linear interactions, and its power to assist self-similar dynamics in quasi-one dimensional condensates.
A mixture of two species of pseudospin-1/2 Bose gases exhibits interesting interplay between spin and orbital degrees of freedom. Expectation values of various quantities of the collective spins of the two species play crucial roles in the Gross-Pitaevskii-like equations governing the four orbital wave functions in which Bose-Einstein condensation occurs. Consequently, the elementary excitations of these orbital wave functions reflect properties of the collective spins. When the coupling between the two collective spins is isotropic, the energy gap of the gapped orbital excitation peaks, while…
The model of low-energy quantum gravity by the author has the property of asymptotic freedom at very short distances. The character of transition to asymptotic freedom is studied here. It is shown that this transition is not universal, but the one obeys the scaling rule: the range of this transition in units of $r/E^{1/2}$, where $r$ is a distance between particles and $E$ is an energy of the screening particle, is the same for any micro-particle. This range for a proton is between $10^{-11} - 10^{-13}$ meter, while for an electron it is approximately between $10^{-13} - 10^{-15}$ meter.
It is suggested in the model of low-energy quantum gravity by the author, that the background of super-strong interacting gravitons exists. It is shown here that micro-particles at very small distances should be almost free if the gravitational attraction is caused by a pressure of these gravitons.
Conventional lattice formulations of $θ$ vacua in the $1+1$-dimensional $\text{O}(3)$ nonlinear sigma model suffer from a sign problem. Here, we construct the first sign-problem-free regularization for arbitrary $θ$. Using efficient lattice Monte Carlo algorithms, we demonstrate how a Hamiltonian model of spin-$\tfrac12$ degrees of freedom on a 2-dimensional spatial lattice reproduces both the infrared sector for arbitrary $θ$, as well as the ultraviolet physics of asymptotic freedom. Furthermore, as a model of qubits on a two-dimensional square lattice with only nearest-neighbor interactions,…
We provide strong evidence that the asymptotically free (1+1)-dimensional non-linear O(3) sigma model can be regularized using a quantum lattice Hamiltonian, referred to as the "Heisenberg-comb", that acts on a Hilbert space with only two qubits per spatial lattice site. The Heisenberg-comb consists of a spin-half anti-ferromagnetic Heisenberg-chain coupled anti-ferromagnetically to a second local spin-half particle at every lattice site. Using a world-line Monte Carlo method we show that the model reproduces the universal step-scaling function of the traditional model up to correlation length…
