The time-dependent quantum system of two laser-driven electrons in a harmonic oscillator potential is analysed, taking into account the repulsive Coulomb interaction between both particles. The Schrodinger equation of the two-particle system is shown to be analytically soluble in case of arbitrary laser frequencies and individual oscillator frequencies, defining the system. Quantum information processing could be a possible field of application
It is now common practice to solve the Schrödinger equation to estimate the tunneling current between two metal electrodes at specified potentials, or the transmission through a potential barrier by assuming an incident, reflected, and transmitted wave. However, we suggest that these methods may not be appropriate for nanoscale circuits. The electron man-free path may be as long as 68.2 nm in metallic elements so we consider the possibility that quantum effects may occur throughout a nanoscale circuit, including the connections. Analytical methods are presented for modeling the coherent transf…

The protocol is based on the strong correlation of photon numbers in both beams in each measurement. The protocol stability against the interception attempts is analyzed.
This work is the development and analysis of the recently proposed quantum cryptographic protocol, based on the use of the two-mode coherently correlated states. Integrals of motion and statistical properties of quantized electromagnetic field (e.-m. field) in time-dependent linear dielectric and conductive media are considered, using Choi-Yeon quantization, based on Caldirola-Kanai type Hamiltonian. Eigenstates of quadratic and linear invariants are constructed, the solutions being expressed in terms of a complex parametric function that obeys classical oscillator equation with time-varying frequency. The time evolutions of initial Glauber coherent states and Fock states are considered. The medium conductivity and the time-dependent electric permeabil…

We propose a feasible scheme to create two spatially separated atomic and molecular beams from an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate by combining the Raman-type atom laser output and the two-color photo-association processes. We examine the quantum dynamics and statistical properties of the system under short-time limits, especially the quadrature-squeezed and mode-correlated behaviors of two output beams for different initial state of the condensate. The possibility to generate the entangled atom-molecule lasers by an optical technique was also discussed.
In an intense laser field, an electron may decay by emitting a pair of photons. The two photons emitted during the process, which can be interpreted as a laser-dressed double Compton scattering, remain entangled in a quantifiable way: namely, the so-called concurrence of the photon polarizations gives a gauge-invariant measure of the correlation of the hard gamma rays. We calculate the differential rate and concurrence for a backscattering setup of the electron and photon beam, employing Volkov states and propagators for the electron lines, thus accounting nonperturbatively for the electron-la…
We propose and evaluate a method to construct a quantum correlated twin atom laser using a pumped and damped Bose-Hubbard inline trimer which can operate in a stationary regime. With pumping via a source condensate filling the middle well and damping using either an electron beam or optical means at the two end wells, we show that bipartite quantum correlations build up between the ends of the chain, and that these can be measured either in situ or in the outcoupled beams. While nothing similar to our system has yet been achieved experimentally, recent advances mean that it should be practical…
Schrodinger equation for a charged particle interacting with the plane wave electromagnetic field is solved exactly. The exact analytic solution and the perturbative solution up to second order are compared.
One-atom laser based on electromagnetically-induced transparency, suggested recently [Phys. Rev. Lett. 124, 093603 (2020)], is capable of generating Schrödinger cat states in the regime of strong ground-state coupling. In this regime, we find the exact solution for the Schrödinger equation with a time-dependent effective Hamiltonian by considering the Magnus expansion of the time-ordered exponential and calculating analytically the time-ordering terms, omitted in the previous study. We show that the time-ordering term affects the relative phase of two coherent components of the generated Schrö…
Recently, using conditioning approaches on the high-harmonic generation process induced by intense laser-atom interactions, we have developed a new method for the generation of optical Schrödinger cat states (M. Lewenstein et al., arXiv:2008.10221 (2020)). These quantum optical states have been proven to be very manageable as, by modifying the conditions under which harmonics are generated, one can interplay between $\textit{kitten}$ and $\textit{genuine cat}$ states. Here, we demonstrate that this method can also be used for the development of new schemes towards the creation of optical Schrö…
A semi-relativistic formulation of light-matter interaction is derived using the so called propagation gauge and the relativistic mass shift. We show that relativistic effects induced by a super-intense laser field can, to a surprisingly large extent, be accounted for by the Schr{ö}dinger equation, provided that we replace the rest mass in the propagation gauge Hamiltonian by the corresponding time-dependent field-dressed mass. The validity of the semi-relativistic approach is tested numerically on a hydrogen atom exposed to an intense XUV laser pulse strong enough to accelerate the electron t…
Analysis of the dynamics of the cavity radiation of a coherently pumped correlated emission laser is presented. The phase fluctuation and dephasing are found to affect the time evolution of the two-mode squeezing and intensity of the cavity radiation significantly. The intensity and degree of the two-mode squeezing increase at early stages of the process with time, but this trend changes rapidly afterwards. It is also shown that they increase with phase fluctuation and dephasing in the strong driving limit, however the situation appears to be opposite in the weak driving limit. This essentiall…
The excitation dynamics of a laser-driven Rydberg gas exhibits a cooperative effect due to the interatomic Rydberg-Rydberg interaction, but the large many-body system with inhomogeneous Rydberg coupling is hard to exactly solved or numerically study by density matrix equations. In this paper, we find that the laser-driven Rydberg gas with most of the atoms being in the ground state can be described by a simplified interaction model resembling the optical Kerr effect if the distance-dependent Rydberg-Rydberg interaction is replaced by an infinite-range coupling. We can then quantitatively study…
A detailed derivation of the master equation of the cavity radiation of a coherently prepared $Y$-shaped four-level correlated emission laser is presented. The outline of the procedures that can be employed in analytically solving the stochastic differential equations and the rate equations of various correlations are also provided. It is shown that coherently preparing the atoms in the upper two energy levels and the lower, initially, can lead to a genuine continuous variable tripartite entanglement. Moreover, preparing the atoms in the coherent superposition, other than the possible maximum …
A detailed study of the effects of phase fluctuation and dephasing on the dynamics of the entanglement generated from a coherently pumped correlated emission laser is presented. It is found that the time evolution of the entanglement is significantly reliant on the phase fluctuation and dephasing, particularly, at early stages of the lasing process. In the absence of external driving radiation, the degree of entanglement and intensity turns out to attain a maximum value just before starting to exhibit oscillation which dies at longer time scale. However, in case the driving mechanism is on, th…
A study of the evolution of two-mode squeezing, entanglement and intensity of the cavity radiation of a two-photon correlated emission laser initially seeded with a thermal light is presented. The dependence of the degree of two-mode squeezing and entanglement on the intensity of the thermal light and time is found to have more or less a similar nature, although the actual values differ specially in the early stages of the process and when the atoms are initially prepared in nearly 50:50 probability to be in the upper and lower energy levels. Particularly, seeding the cavity turns out to spoil…
We create a one-dimensional strongly correlated quantum gas of $^{133}$Cs atoms with attractive interactions by direct laser cooling in 300~ms. After compressing and cooling the optically trapped atoms to the vibrational ground state along two tightly confined directions, the emergence of a non-Gaussian time-of-flight distribution along the third, weakly confined direction reveals that the system enters a quantum degenerate regime. We observe a strong reduction of two- and three-body spatial correlations and infer that the atoms are directly cooled into a highly correlated excited metastable s…
A new method to deal with reduced dynamics of open systems by means of the Schrödinger equation is presented. It allows one to consider the reduced time evolution for correlated and uncorrelated initial conditions.
The effect of the Pauli exclusion principle on double ionization of He atoms by strong, linearly polarized laser pulses is analyzed. We show that correlated electron escape, with electron momenta symmetric with respect to the field polarization axis, is suppressed if atoms are initially prepared in the metastable state 3S. The effect is a consequence of selection rules for the transition to the appropriate outgoing two-electron states. We illustrate the suppression in numerical calculations of electron and ion momentum distributions within a reduced dimensionality model.
The marginal distribution of squeezed, rotated and shifted quadrature for two types of nonclassical states of a trapped ion - squeezed correlated states and squeezed even and odd coherent states (squeezed Schrodinger cat states) - is studied.
We investigate the steady-state cooling dynamics of vibrational degrees of freedom related to a nanomechanical oscillator coupled with a laser-pumped quantum dot in an optical resonator. Correlations between phonon-cooling and quantum-dot photon emission processes occur respectively when a photon laser absorption together with a vibrational phonon absorption is followed by photon emission in the optical resonator. Therefore, the detection of photons generated in the cavity mode concomitantly contribute to phonon cooling detection of the nanomechanical resonator.
The feasibility to generate correlated photon pairs at variable frequencies is investigated. For this purpose, we consider the interaction of an off-resonant laser field with a two-level system possessing broken inversion symmetry. We show that the system generates non-classical photon pairs exhibiting strong intensity-intensity correlations. The intensity of the applied laser tunes the degree of correlation while the detuning controls the frequency of one of the photons which can be in the THz-domain. Furthermore, we observe the violation of a Cauchy-Schwarz inequality characterizing these ph…
We consider a non-equilibrium system of interacting emitters described by the XXZ model, whose excitonic transitions are spatially and spectrally coupled to a single mode cavity. We demonstrate that the output radiation field is sensitive to an interplay between the hopping ($J$) and the interactions ($U$) of the excitons. Moderate values of the short-ranged interaction are shown to induce laser with maximal output at the Heisenberg point ($U=J$). In the laser regime, charge-charge correlations emerge and they are shown to strongly depend on the interaction-hopping ratio. In particular, the sy…
The derivation of the Schrödinger-like equations from the system of equations of the quantum hydrodynamic analogy (QHA) is analyzed in presence of fluctuations. If in absence of fluctuation each QHA solution can be tracked back to the equivalent one of the Schrödinger problem, in presence of fluctuations the work shows that the ensemble of solution of the QHA equations is wider than the Schrödinger one and the tracking-back procedure from the QHA problem to the original Schrödinger equation is not generally possible. The break-down of the mathematical correspondence is inspected and correlated…
Favored schemes for trapped-ion quantum logic gates use bichromatic laser fields to couple internal qubit states with external motion through a "spin-dependent force." We introduce a new degree of freedom in this coupling that reduces its sensitivity to phase decoherence. We demonstrate bichromatic spin-dependent forces on a single trapped $^{111}$Cd$^+$ ion, and show that phase coherence of the resulting "Schrödinger-cat" states of motion depends critically upon the spectral arrangement of the optical fields. This applies directly to the operation of entangling gates on multiple ions.
The theory of quantum propagator and time--dependent integrals of motion in quantum optics is reviewed as well as the properties of Wigner function, Q--function, and coherent state representation. Propagators and wave functions of a free particle, harmonic oscillator, and the oscillator with varying frequency are studied using time--dependent linear in position and momentum integrals of motion. Such nonclassical states of light (of quantum systems) as squeezed states, correlated states, even and odd coherent states (Schrödinger cat states) are considered. Photon distribution functions of Schrö…
A nonlocal quantum model is presented for calculating the atomic dielectric response to a strong laser electric field. By replacing the Coulomb potential with a nonlocal potential in the Schrodinger equation, a 3+1D calculation of the time-dependent electric dipole moment can be replaced with a 0+1D integral equation, offering significant computational savings. The model is benchmarked against an established ionization model and \textit{ab initio} simulation of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation. The reduced computational overhead makes the model a promising candidate to incorporate full …
In quantum mechanics, the space-fractional Schrödinger equation provides a natural extension of the standard Schrödinger equation when the Brownian trajectories in Feynman path integrals are replaced by Levy flights. Here an optical realization of the fractional Schrödinger equation, based on transverse light dynamics in aspherical optical cavities, is proposed. As an example a laser implementation of the fractional quantum harmonic oscillator is presented, in which dual Airy beams can be selectively generated under off-axis longitudinal pumping.
To the best of our knowledge, we demonstrate for the first time the generation of photon number squeezing by spectral filtering for ultra-broadband light generated by microstructure fibers at 800 nm. A maximum squeezing of 4.6 dB is observed, corresponding to 10.3 dB after correcting for detection losses. We numerically analyzed the quantum dynamics of ultrashort laser pulse propagation through optical fibers by solving a nonlinear quantum Schrodinger equation that included Raman scattering, especially for the quantum correlation of photon number fluctuation among frequency modes in broadband …
The interference pattern in electron double-slit diffraction is a hallmark of quantum mechanics. A long standing question for stochastic electrodynamics (SED) is whether or not it is capable of reproducing such effects, as interference is a manifestation of quantum coherence. In this study, we use excited harmonic oscillators to directly test this quantum feature in SED. We use two counter-propagating dichromatic laser pulses to promote a ground-state harmonic oscillator to a squeezed Schrödinger cat state. Upon recombination of the two well-separated wavepackets, an interference pattern emerg…
We have theoretically investigated the molecular orientation by a asymmetric potential created by the superposition of two-color laser fields. The time-dependent Schrodinger equation is solved numerically for different field parameters. We have shown how enhancement or suppression of the molecular orientation can be manipulated by the laser field parameters, such as time between laser pulses, the different intensity of the pulses, etc.
We solve rigorously the time dependent Schrödinger equation describing electron emission from a metal surface by a laser field perpendicular to the surface. We consider the system to be one-dimensional, with the half-line $x<0$ corresponding to the bulk of the metal and $x>0$ to the vacuum. The laser field is modeled as a classical electric field oscillating with frequency $ω$, acting only at $x>0$. We consider an initial condition which is a stationary state of the system without a field, and, at time $t=0$, the field is switched on. We prove the existence of a solution $ψ(x,t)$ of the Schröd…
A theoretical comparison of the electronic excitation and ionisation behaviour of molecular hydrogen oriented either parallel or perpendicular to a linear polarised laser pulse is performed. The investigation is based on a non-perturbative treatment that solves the full time-dependent Schrödinger equation of both correlated electrons within the fixed-nuclei approximation and the dipole. Results are shown for two different laser pulse lengths and intensities as well as for a large variety of photon frequencies starting in the 1- and reaching into the 6-photon regime. In order to investigate the…
A theory of Steady-State laser action is presented which loosely parallels the treatment by H. Frohlich on energy storage in biological systems. The principal lasing elements, taken as N bio level molecules and a single mode quantized radiation field are treated as a single quantum system. Laser action then is seen as a Bose-Einstein like condensation into the lowest energy mode of this correlated system when the pump power exceeds a certain critical value.
The alignment dependence of the ionization behavior of H$_2$ exposed to intense ultrashort laser pulses is investigated on the basis of solutions of the full time-dependent Schrödinger equation within the fixed-nuclei and dipole approximation. The total ionization yields as well as the energy-resolved electron spectra have been calculated for a parallel and a perpendicular orientation of the molecular axis with respect to the polarization axis of linear polarized laser pulses. For most, but not all considered laser peak intensities the parallel aligned molecules are easier to ionize. Furthermo…
We demonstrate an efficient generation of frequency anti-correlated entangled photon pairs at telecom wavelength. The fundamental laser is a continuous-wave high-power fiber laser at 1560 nm, through an extracavity frequency doubling system, a 780-nm pump with a power as high as 742 mW is realized. After single passing through a periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystal, degenerate down-converted photon pairs are generated. With an overall detection efficiency of 14.8 %, the count rates of the single photons and coincidence of the photon pairs are measured to be 370 kHz and 22 kHz, respective…
We analyze the two-dimensional momentum distribution of electrons ionized by few-cycle laser pulses in the transition regime from multiphoton absorption to tunneling by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and by a classical-trajectory Monte Carlo simulation with tunneling (CTMC-T). We find a complex two-dimensional interference pattern that resembles ATI rings at higher energies and displays Ramsauer-Townsend diffraction oscillations in the angular distribution near threshold. CTMC-T calculations provide a semiclassical explanation for the dominance of selected partial waves. While…
We study theoretically fast transfer of excitons between pairs of coupled quantum dots driven by the optical Stark effect that is produced by a short nonresonant laser pulse. The Schrödinger equation, in which the relative position of energy levels of quantum dot subsystems is time-dependent, is solved numerically. Computer simulation shows a way to achieve efficient excitation transfer by the action of a picosecond laser pulse with a rectangular envelope function.
Correlated photon pairs generated through spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) are a key resource in quantum optics. In many quantum optics applications, such as satellite quantum key distribution (QKD), a compact, high repetition rate pump laser is required. Here we demonstrate the use of a compact, GHz-rate diode-pumped three-element Kerr-lens-modelocked Ti:sapphire laser for the generation of correlated photon pairs at 790 nm. We verify the presence of indistinguishable photons produced via SPDC using Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interferometry and observe a dip in coincidence counts with …
We present a case demonstrating the connection between supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY--QM), reflectionless scattering, and soliton solutions of integrable partial differential equations. We show that the members of a class of reflectionless Hamiltonians, namely, Akulin's Hamiltonians, are connected via supersymmetric chains to a potential-free Hamiltonian, explaining their reflectionless nature. While the reflectionless property in question has been mentioned in the literature for over two decades, the enabling algebraic mechanism was previously unknown. Our results indicate that the m…
Generation of nonclassical light is an essential tool for quantum optics research and applications in quantum information technology. We present realization of the source of nonclassically correlated photon pairs based on the process of spontaneous four-wave-mixing in warm atomic vapor. Atoms are excited only by a single laser beam in retro-reflected configuration and narrowband frequency filtering is employed for selection of correlated photon pairs. Nonclassicality of generated light fields is proved by analysis of their statistical properties. Measured parameters of the presented source pro…
It is now common practice to solve the Schrödinger equation to estimate the tunneling current between two electrodes at specified potentials, or the transmission through a potential barrier by assuming that there is an incident, reflected, and transmitted wave. However, these two approaches may not be appropriate for applications with nanoscale circuits. A new approach is required because the electron man-free path may be as long as 68.2 nm in metals so it is possible that the wavefunction may be coherent throughout a nanoscale circuit. We define several algorithms for determining the eigenval…
We discuss techniques that allow for long coherence times in laser spectroscopy experiments with two trapped ions. We show that for this purpose not only entangled ions prepared in decoherence-free subspaces can be used but also a pair of ions that are not entangled but subject to the same kind of phase noise. We apply this technique to a measurement of the electric quadrupole moment of the 3d D5/2 state of 40Ca+ and to a measurement of the linewidth of an ultrastable laser exciting a pair of 40Ca+ ions.
We report on the experimental observation of a new type of dark soliton in a fiber laser made of all normal group velocity dispersion fibers. It was shown that the soliton is formed due to the cross coupling between two different wavelength laser beams and has the characteristic of separating the two different wavelength laser emissions. Moreover, we show experimentally that the dual-wavelength dark solitons have a much lower pump threshold than that of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation dark solitons formed in the same laser.
The simulation of strongly correlated many-electron systems is one of the most promising applications for near-term quantum devices. Here we use a class of eigenvalue solvers (presented in Phys. Rev. Lett. 126, 070504 (2021)) in which a contraction of the Schrödinger equation is solved for the two-electron reduced density matrix (2-RDM) to resolve the energy splittings of ortho-, meta-, and para-isomers of benzyne ${\textrm C_6} {\textrm H_4}$. In contrast to the traditional variational quantum eigensolver, the contracted quantum eigensolver solves an integration (or contraction) of the many-e…
The time-dependent variational principle is used to optimize the linear and nonlinear parameters of Gaussian basis functions to solve the time-dependent Schrodinger equation in 1 and 3 dimensions for a one-body soft Coulomb potential in a laser field. The accuracy is tested comparing the solution to finite difference grid calculations using several examples. The approach is not limited to one particle systems and the example presented for two electrons demonstrates the potential to tackle larger systems using correlated basis functions.
We have proposed and demonstrated a fast and robust method of population transfer between two quantum states using a quadratically chirped laser source. Incorporating the Jaynes-Cummings in a full quantum description of the interaction, and numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, transition probabilities have been obtained and the condition of the adiabatic passage is investigated. In this scheme, a laser source has been swept quadratically in time for arbitrarily engineering the transition probabilities. The results show that complete and robust population transfer could …
The correlated projection superoperator techniques provide a better understanding about how correlations lead to strong non-Markovian effects in open quantum systems. Their superoperators are independent of initial state, which may not be suitable for some cases. To improve this, we develop a new approach, that is extending the composite system before use the correlated projection superoperator techniques. Such approach allows choosing different superoperators for different initial states. We apply these techniques to a simple model to illustrate the general approach. The numerical simulations…
In this paper, we study the laser cooling mechanisms with a new quantum theory approach by applying a new Schrodinger equation, which can describe a particle in conservative and non-conservative force field. With the new theory, we prove the atom in laser field can be cooled, and give the atom cooling temperature, which is accordance with experiment result. Otherwise, we give new prediction that the atom cooling temperature is directly proportional to the atom vibration frequency. By calculation, we find they are: $T=0.4334ω$.
A spectroscopic application of the atom laser is suggested. The spectroscopy termed 2PACC employs the coherent properties of matter-waves from a two pulse atom laser. These waves are employed to control a gas-surface chemical recombination reaction. The method is demonstrated for an Eley-Rideal reaction of a hydrogen or alkali atom-laser pulse where the surface target is an adsorbed hydrogen atom. The reaction yields either a hydrogen or alkali hydride molecule. The desorbed gas phase molecular yield and its internal state is shown to be controlled by the time and phase delay between two atom-…
Using exact diagonalization for a small system of cold bosonic atoms, we analyze the emergence of strongly correlated states in the presence of an artificial magnetic field. This gauge field is generated by a laser beam that couples two internal atomic states, and it is related to Berry's geometrical phase that emerges when an atom follows adiabatically one of the two eigenstates of the atom--laser coupling. Our approach allows us to go beyond the adiabatic approximation, and to characterize the generalized Laughlin wave functions that appear in the strong magnetic field limit.
A Hubbard-type model is derived from the microscopic Schrödinger equation. We found that additional terms describing direct two-electron transitions must be added to the standard Hubbard Hamiltonian. Such a Hamiltonian generates two-electron pairing due to on-site Coulomb repulsion. We demonstrate that the electron pairs with opposite spin propagate across periodic structures via direct and sequential two-electron tunneling. This mechanism can be used for a generation of entangled electron current. Numerical calculations show stability of the electron pairs.
