The PEP-II luminosity upgrade foreseen for the next years requires an increased number of bunches and lower beta-y* with minor modifications to the present Interaction Region (IR2). When increasing the collision frequency the beams separation in IR2 can be an issue. A study of the effect of the parasitic crossings for both the head-on and horizontal crossing angle options is presented.

We present a pepper-pot design in which we address the problem of penetration by high energy particle, deriving analytical expressions and performing GEANT4 simulations for the estimation of the error introduced by a long (thick) pepper-pot. We also show that a careful design allows to measure the emittance of electron beam of several hundred MeV and beyond.
The PEP-II B Factory Low-Level RF System (LLRF) is a fully programmable VXI based design running under an EPICS control environment. Several RF feedback loops are used to control longitudinal coupled-bunch modes driven by the accelerating mode of the RF cavities. This paper updates the performance of the LLRF system as beam currents reach design levels. Modifications which enhance the stability, diagnostics, and overall operational performance are described. Recent data from high current operation is included.
The successful commissioning and operation of the PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider motivated further studies to increase luminosity. In this paper, we discuss a modification of the PEP-II lattice to reduce the vertical beta function at the Interaction Point (IP) from the design value of 1.5cm to 1.0cm. This could potentially reduce the colliding beam size, increase particle density at the IP and the probability of beam-beam interactions. In this paper, we outline the optics modifications, discuss tracking simulations, and overview machine implementation.
Beam-beam simulations predict that PEP-II luminosity can be increased by operating the horizontal betatron tune near and above a half-integer resonance. However, effects of the resonance and its synchrotron sidebands significantly enhance betatron and chromatic perturbations which tend to reduce dynamic aperture. We present a novel method to characterize the e+/- phase space at the IP of the SLAC B-factory, that combines single-beam measurements with a detailed mapping of luminous-region observables. Transverse spot sizes are determined in the two rings with synchrotron-light monitors and extrapolated to the IP using measured lattice functions. The PEP-II interaction region is designed to accommodate asymmetric beam energies, head-on collisions, small bunch spacing and provide low beta* for high luminosity. Local correction schemes are implemented to compensate non-linear chromaticity from the IP doublets as well as coupling, orbit and focusing effects from the 6 Tm asymmetric detector solenoid. The main IR optics features and local correction schemes are presented. MAD code is used for the optics calculations.
The beam-beam effects of the PEP-II as an asymmetric collider are studied with strong-strong simulations using a newly developed particle-in-cell (PIC) code. The simulated luminosity agrees with the measured one within 10% in a large range of the beam currents. The spectra of coherent dipole oscillation are simulated with and without the transparency symmetry. The simulated tune shift of the coherent $π$ mode agrees with the linearized Vlasov theory even at large beam-beam parameters. The Poicare map of coherent dipole is used to identify the beam-beam resonances.
The PEP-II B Factory at SLAC has been in operation with the BABAR detector since the summer of 1999. The peak currents and luminosity steadily increased through the end of the 2000 run on October 31. By that time, 0.75 A of electrons (the design current) routinely collided with 1.4 A of positrons in 657 bunches, to give a peak luminosity of 2.6E33 cm^{-2} s^{-1}. Long-range beam-beam effects occurred in the Tevatron at all stages (injection, ramp, squeeze, and collisions) and affected both proton and antiproton beams. They resulted in beam losses and emittance blow-ups, which occurred in remarkable bunch-to-bunch dependent patterns. On the way to record-high luminosities of the collider, many issues related to the long-range beam-beam interactions have been addressed. This document presents in detail the derivation of the formulas that describe the resonance driving terms and the tune spread with amplitude generated by the beam-beam long range interactions and the DC wire compensators in cyclical machines. This analysis make use of the weak-strong approximation.
Long-range beam-beam effects are a potential limit to the LHC performance with the nominal design parameters, and certain upgrade scenarios under discussion. To mitigate long-range effects, current carrying wires parallel to the beam were proposed and space is reserved in the LHC for such wires. Two current carrying wires were installed in RHIC to study the effect of strong long-range beam-beam effects in a collider, as well as test the compensation of a single long-range interaction. The experimental data were used to benchmark simulations. We summarize this work.
We report on the experience with long-range beam--beam effects in the LHC, in dedicated studies as well as the experience from operation. Where possible, we compare the observations with the expectations.

The electron multipacting is an important factor for the development of the electron cloud. There is a trailing-edge multipacting in the tail of the long-bunch beam. It can be described by the energy gain and motion of electrons. The analyses are in agreement with the simulation.
Some peculiarities of fast laser cooling of long-lived ion beams in storage rings are discussed. Selective interaction of ions and broadband laser beam with sharp frequency and geometric edges is used while laser and ion beams are partially overlapped. The rates of change of the ion beam density in different regions of the phase space and at different moments of time in this scheme of cooling differ. That is why the generalized Robinson theorem valid for the infinitesimal phase space regions of non exponential cooling in turn is used to interpret the results.
Fermilab has had a very active long baseline neutrino program since initiation of the NuMI project in 1998. Commissioned in 2005, the NuMI beam with 400 kW design power has been in operation for the MINOS neutrino oscillation program since that time. The initial beam emittance determines the maximum wakefield amplitude that can be reached as a result of beam self-modulation in the plasma. The wakefield excited by the fully self-modulated beam decreases linearly with the increase of the beam emittance.
