Variational calculation of positronium-helium-atom scattering length

We present a variational basis-set calculational scheme for elastic scattering of positronium atom by helium atom in S wave and apply it to the calculation of the scattering length. Highly correlated trial functions with appropriate symmetry are used in this calculation. We report numerical result for the scattering length in atomic unit: $(1.0\pm 0.1)a_0$. This corresponds to a zero-energy elastic cross section of $(4.0\pm 0.8)πa_0^2$.

Differential and partial cross sections of elastic and inelastic positronium-helium-atom scattering

Scattering of positronium (Ps) by helium atom has been investigated in a three-Ps-state coupled-channel model including Ps(1s,2s,2p) states using a recently proposed time-reversal-symmetric regularized electron-exchange model potential. Specifically, we report results of differential cross sections for elastic scattering and target-elastic Ps excitations. We also present results for total and different partial cross sections and compare them with experiment and other calculations.

Convergent variational calculation of positronium-hydrogen-atom scattering lengths

We present a convergent variational basis-set calculational scheme for elastic scattering of positronium atom by hydrogen atom in S wave. Highly correlated trial functions with appropriate symmetry are needed for achieving convergence. We report convergent results for scattering lengths in atomic units for both singlet ($=3.49\pm 0.20$) and triplet ($=2.46\pm 0.10$) states.

Electron exchange model potential: Application to positronium-helium scattering

The formulation of a suitable nonlocal model potential for electron exchange is presented, checked with electron-hydrogen and electron-helium scattering, and applied to the study of elastic and inelastic scattering and ionization of ortho positronium (Ps) by helium. Low-energy quenching of positronium by helium

Very low-energy scattering of orthopositronium by helium has been investigated for simultaneous study of elastic cross section and pick-off quenching rate using a model exchange potential. The present calculational scheme, while agrees with the measured cross section of Skalsey et al, reproduces successfully the parameter $^ 1Z_{\makebox{eff}}$, the effective number of electrons per atom in a singlet state relative to the positron. Calculation of ground- and excited-state energies of confined helium atom

We calculate the energies of ground and three low lying excited states of confined helium atom centered in an impenetrable spherical box. We perform the calculation by employing variational method with two-parameter variational forms for the correlated two-particle wave function. With just two variational parameters we get quite accurate results for both ground and excited state energies.

Variational calculation of many-body wave functions and energies from density-functional theory

A generating coordinate is introduced into the exchange-correlation functional of density-functional theory (DFT). Calculation of hydrodynamic mass for atomic impurities in helium

We present a simple numerical procedure for calculating the irrotational hydrodynamic flow in a helium solvation structure around a spherical solute in linear motion through superfluid helium.
