We extend the invertibility principle of J. Bourgain and L. Tzafriri to operators acting on arbitrary decompositions id = \sum x_j \otimes x_j, rather than on the coordinate one. The John's decomposition brings this result to the local theory of Banach spaces. As a consequence, we get a new lemma of Dvoretzky-Rogers type, where the contact points of the unit ball with its maximal volume ellipsoid play a crucial role. This is applied to embeddings of l_\infty^k into finite dimensional spaces.

John-Nirenberg inequality and atomic decomposition for noncommutative martingales

In this paper, we study the John-Nirenberg inequality for BMO and the atomic decomposition for H1 of noncommutative martingales. We first establish a crude version of the column (resp. row) John-Nirenberg inequality for all 0 < p < \infty. By an extreme point property of Lp -space for 0 < p \leq 1, we then obtain a fine version of this in equality. Median-type John-Nirenberg space in metric measure spaces

We study the so-called John-Nirenberg space that is a generalization of functions of bounded mean oscillation in the setting of metric measure spaces with a doubling measure. Our main results are local and global John-Nirenberg inequalities, which give weak type estimates for the oscillation of a function. We consider medians instead of integral averages throughout, and thus functions are not a priori assumed to be locally integrable. On almost randomizing channels with a short Kraus decomposition

For large d, we study quantum channels on C^d obtained by selecting randomly N independent Kraus operators according to a probability measure mu on the unitary group U(d). When mu is the Haar measure, we show that for N>d/epsilon^2$, such a channel is epsilon-randomizing with high probability, which means that it maps every state within distance epsilon/d (in operator norm) of the maximally mixed state.
