Let H be a Hilbert $C^*$-module over a matrix algebra A. It is proved that any function $T:H\to H$ which preserves the absolute value of the (generalized) inner product is of the form $Tf=ϕ(f)Uf$ $(f\in H)$, where $ϕ$ is a phase-function and U is an A-linear isometry. The result gives a natural extension of Wigner's classical unitary-antiunitary theorem for Hilbert modules.

An algebraic approach to Wigner's unitary-antiunitary theorem

We present an operator algebraic approach to Wigner's unitary-antiunitary theorem using some classical results from ring theory. To show how effective this approach is, we prove a generalization of this celebrated theorem for Hilbert modules over matrix algebras. Wigner's classical theorem on symmetry transformations plays a fundamental role in quantum mechanics. It can be formulated, for example, in the following way: Every bijective transformation on the set L of all 1-dimensional subspaces of a Hilbert space H which preserves the angle between the elements of L is induced by either a unitary or an antiunitary operator on H. Plancherel Inversion as Unified Approach to Wavelet Transforms and Wigner functions

We demonstrate that the Plancherel transform for Type-I groups provides one with a natural, unified perspective for the generalized continuous wavelet transform, on the one hand, and for a class of Wigner functions, on the other. Thermalisation for Wigner matrices

We compute the deterministic approximation of products of Sobolev functions of large Wigner matrices $W$ and provide an optimal error bound on their fluctuation with very high probability. This generalizes Voiculescu's seminal theorem [Voiculescu 1991] from polynomials to general Sobolev functions, as well as from tracial quantities to individual matrix elements. On Wigner's theorem in smooth normed spaces

In this note we generalize the well-known Wigner's unitary-anti\-unitary theorem. For $X$ and $Y$ smooth normed spaces and $f:X\to Y$ a surjective mapping such that $|[f(x),f(y)]|=|[x,y]|$, $x,y\in X$, where $[\cdot,\cdot]$ is the unique semi-inner product, we show that $f$ is phase equivalent to either a linear or an anti-linear surjective isometry. When $X$ and $Y$ are smooth real normed spaces and $Y$ strictly convex, we show that Wigner's theorem is equivalent to $\{\|f(x)+f(y)\|,\|f(x)-f(y)\|\}=\{\|x+y\|,\|x-y\|\}$, $x,y\in X$.

Twisted Fourier analysis and pseudo-probability distributions

We use a noncommutative generalization of Fourier analysis to define a broad class of pseudo-probability representations, which includes the known bosonic and discrete Wigner functions. We characterize the groups of quantum unitary operations which correspond to phase-space transformations, generalizing Gaussian and Clifford operations. As examples, we find Wigner representations for fermions, hard-core bosons, and angle-number systems.
