Variational order for forced Lagrangian systems II: Euler-Poincaré equations with forcing

In this paper we provide a variational derivation of the Euler-Poincaré equations for systems subjected to external forces using an adaptation of the techniques introduced by Galley and others. Moreover, we study in detail the underlying geometry which is related to the notion of Poisson groupoid. Finally, we apply the previous construction to the formal derivation of the variational error for numerical integrators of forced Euler-Poincaré equations and the application of this theory to the derivation of geometric integrators for forced systems.

New variational and multisymplectic formulations of the Euler-Poincaré equation on the Virasoro-Bott group using the inverse map

We derive a new variational principle, leading to a new momentum map and a new multisymplectic formulation for a family of Euler--Poincaré equations defined on the Virasoro-Bott group, by using the inverse map (also called `back-to-labels' map). This family contains as special cases the well-known Korteweg-de Vries, Camassa-Holm, and Hunter-Saxton soliton equations. In the conclusion section, we sketch opportunities for future work that would apply the new Clebsch momentum map with $2$-cocycles derived here to investigate a new type of interplay among nonlinearity, dispersion and noise.

Super-Poincare' algebras, space-times and supergravities (II)

The presentation of supergravity theories of our previous paper "Super-Poincare' algebras, space-times and supergravities (I)" is re-formulated in the language of Berezin-Leites-Kostant theory of supermanifolds. It is also shown that the equations of Cremmer, Julia and Scherk's theory of 11D-supergravity are equivalent to manifestly covariant equations on a supermanifold.

Euler structures, the variety of representations and the Milnor-Turaev torsion

In this paper we extend and Poincare dualize the concept of Euler structures, introduced by Turaev for manifolds with vanishing Euler-Poincare characteristic, to arbitrary manifolds.
