Generalized character sums associated to regular prehomogeneous vector spaces

In this paper we consider the analogue of the Sato's functional equation for the prehomogeneous vector spaces over finite fields. The corresponding character sums depend on a relative invariant on such a space and an irreducible representation of the group of components of the stabilizer of a generic point. The proof is based on the Picard-Lefschetz formula in $l$-adique cohomology.

Free divisors in prehomogeneous vector spaces

We study linear free divisors, that is, free divisors arising as discriminants in prehomogeneous vector spaces, and in particular in quiver representation spaces. We give a characterization of the prehomogeneous vector spaces containing such linear free divisors. For reductive linear free divisors, we prove that the numbers of geometric and representation theoretic irreducible components coincide. Topology of Exceptional Orbit Hypersurfaces of Prehomogeneous Spaces

We consider the topology for a class of hypersurfaces with highly nonisolated singularites which arise as exceptional orbit varieties of a special class of prehomogeneous vector spaces, which are representations of linear algebraic groups with open orbits. Additive relative invariants and the components of a linear free divisor

A 'prehomogeneous vector space' is a rational representation $ρ:G\to\mathrm{GL}(V)$ of a connected complex linear algebraic group $G$ that has a Zariski open orbit $Ω\subset V$. Stratification for multiplicative character sums

We prove a stratification result for certain families of $n$-dimensional (complete algebraic) multiplicative character sums. The character sums we consider are sums of products of $r$ multiplicative characters evaluated at rational functions, and the families (with $nr$ parameters) are obtained by allowing each of the $r$ rational functions to be replaced by an "offset", i.e. a translate, of itself. On a generalization of Jacobi sums

We prove an estimate for multi-variable multiplicative character sums over affine subspaces of $\mathbb A^n_k$, which generalize the well known estimates for both classical Jacobi sums and one-variable polynomial multiplicative character sums.

$p$-adic estimates for multiplicative character sums

This article is an expanded version of the talk given by the first author at the conference "Exponential sums over finite fields and applications" (ETH, Zürich, November, 2010). We state some conjectures on archimedian and $p$-adic estimates for multiplicative character sums over smooth projective varieties. We also review some of the results of J. Dollarhide, which formed the basis for these conjectures. Applying his results, we prove one of the conjectures when the smooth projective variety is ${\mathbb P}^n$ itself.

Newton polygons for twisted exponential sums and polynomials $P(x^d)$

We study the $p$-adic absolute value of the roots of the $L$-functions associated to certain twisted character sums, and additive character sums associated to polynomials $P(x^d)$, when $P$ varies among the space of polynomial of fixed degree $e$ over a finite field of characteristic $p$.
