Discriminants of Theta-Representations

Tevelev has given a remarkable explicit formula for the discriminant of a complex simple Lie algebra, which can be defined as the equation of the dual hypersurface of the minimal nilpotent orbit, or of the so-called adjoint variety. In this paper we extend this formula to the setting of graded Lie algebras, and express the equation of the corresponding dual hypersurfaces in terms of the reflections in the little Weyl groups, the associated complex reflection groups. This explains for example why the codegree of the Grassmannian $G(4, 8)$ is equal to the number of roots of $\mathfrak{e}_7$ .

Degenerating Riemann surfaces and the Quillen metric

The degeneration of the Quillen metric for a one-parameter family of Riemann surfaces has been studied by Bismut-Bost and Yoshikawa. In this article we propose a more geometric point of view using Deligne's Riemann-Roch theorem. We obtain an interpretation of the singular part of the metric as a discriminant and the continuous part as a degeneration of the metric on Deligne products, which gives an asymptotic development involving the monodromy eigenvalues. A canonical connection on bundles on Riemann surfaces and Quillen connection on the theta bundle

We investigate the symplectic geometric and differential geometric aspects of the moduli space of connections on a compact Riemann surface $X$. Fix a theta characteristic $K^{1/2}_X$ on $X$; it defines a theta divisor on the moduli space ${\mathcal M}$ of stable vector bundles on $X$ of rank $r$ degree zero. Given a vector bundle $E \in {\mathcal M}$ lying outside the theta divisor, we construct a natural holomorphic connection on $E$ that depends holomorphically on $E$. A new model for the theta divisor of the cubic threefold

In this paper we give a birational model for the theta divisor of the intermediate Jacobian of a generic cubic threefold $X$. We use the standard realization of $X$ as a conic bundle and a $4-$dimensional family of plane quartics which are totally tangent to the discriminant quintic curve of such a conic bundle structure. The additional data of an even theta characteristic on the curves in the family gives us a model for the theta divisor.

Discriminants of cubic curves and determinantal representations

The discriminant of a smooth plane cubic curve over the complex numbers can be written as a product of theta functions. This provides an important connection between algebraic and analytic objects. In this paper, we perform a new approach to obtain this classical result by using determinantal representations. More precisely, one can represent a non-singular cubic form as the determinant of a matrix whose elements are linear forms. Theta functions naturally appear in this representation and thus in the discriminant of the cubic.
