We consider algebraic actions of a cyclic group of order p on a K3 surface defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. We classify possible loci of fixed points as well as possible quotient surfaces.
The wild McKay correspondence, a variant of the McKay correspondence in positive characteristics, shows that stringy motives of quotient varieties equal some motivic integrals on the moduli space of of the Galois covers of a formal disk. In this paper, we determine when the integrals converge for the the case of cyclic groups of prime power order. As an application, we give a criterion for the quotient variety being canonical or log canonical.
In positive characteristic, there exist counterexamples to the statement corresponding to Batyrev's theorem concerning the McKay correspondence. In this paper, we give another computation of the counterexamples by using stringy-point count for some sequences of quotient varieties. There is a proof of the Serre-Bhagava's mass formula, which is important formula in the number theory, from the computation of stringy-point count of a quotient variety associated to a representation of symmetric group. Our computation of the stringy-point count in this paper is regarded as a variation of this proof …
A fine moduli space is constructed, for cyclic-by-$\mathsf{p}$ covers of an affine curve over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $\mathsf{p}>0$. An intersection of finitely many fine moduli spaces for cyclic-by-$\mathsf{p}$ covers of affine curves gives a moduli space for $\mathsf{p}'$-by-$\mathsf{p}$ covers of an affine curve. A local moduli space is also constructed, for cyclic-by-$\mathsf{p}$ covers of $Spec(k((x)))$, which is the same as the global moduli space for cyclic-by-$\mathsf{p}$ covers of $\mathbb{P}^1-\{0\}$ tamely ramified over $\infty$ with the same Galois grou…
Suppose G is a semi-direct product of the form Z/p^n \rtimes Z/m where p is prime and m is relatively prime to p. Suppose K is a local field of characteristic p > 0. The main result states necessary and sufficient conditions on the ramification filtrations that occur for wildly ramified G-Galois extensions of K. In addition, we prove that there exists a parameter space for G-Galois extensions of K with given ramification filtration whose dimension depends only on the ramification filtration. We provide explicit equations for wild cyclic extensions of K of degree p^3.
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p > 0$. We consider the problem of lifting $p$-cyclic covers of $\Proj_k$ as $p$-cyclic covers of the projective line over some DVR under the condition that the wild monodromy is maximal. We answer positively the question for covers birational to $w^ p-w=tR(t)$ for some additive polynomial $R(t)$.
We construct inductively an equivariant compactification of the algebraic group ${\mathbb W}_n$ of Witt vectors of finite length over a field of characteristic $p>0$. We obtain smooth projective rational varieties $\bar{\mathbb W}_n$, defined over $\mathbf F_p$; the boundary is a divisor whose reduced subscheme has normal crossings. The Artin-Schreier-Witt isogeny $F-1:{\mathbb W}_n\to {\mathbb W}_n$ extends to a finite cyclic cover ${\mathbfΨ}_n:\bar{\mathbb W}_n\to \bar{\mathbb W}_n$ of degree $p^n$ ramified at the boundary. This is used to give an extrinsic description of the local behavior…
We consider normal affine T-varieties X endowed with an action of finite abelian group G commuting with the action of T. For such varieties we establish the existence of G-equivariant geometrico-combinatorial presentations in the sense of Altmann and Hausen. As an application, we determine explicit presentations of the Koras-Russell threefolds as bi-cyclic covers of A^3 equipped with a hyperbolic C^*-action.
In this paper we describe six pencils of K3-surfaces which have large Picard-Number and contain precisely five singular fibers: four have A-D-E singularities and one is non-reduced. In particular we describe these surfaces as cyclic coverings of the K3-surfaces which Barth and the author described in a previous manuscript (Asian. J. of Math. Vol. 7, No. 4, 519-538, Dec. 2003). In many cases using this description and lattice-Theory we are able to compute the exact Picard-number and to describe explicitly the Picard-lattices.
We study integral representations of holomorphic differentials on the Oort-Sekiguci-Suwa component of deformations of curves with cyclic group actions.
In characteristic two and dimension two, wild Z/2Z-actions on k[[u,v]] ramified precisely at the origin were classified by Artin, who showed in particular that they induce hypersurface singularities. We introduce in this article a new class of wild quotient singularities in any characteristic p>0 arising from certain non-linear actions of Z/pZ on the formal power series ring in n variables. These actions are ramified precisely at the origin, and their rings of invariants in dimension n=2 are hypersurface singularities, with an equation of a form similar to the form found by Artin when p=2. In …
We use tools from combinatorial group theory in order to study actions of three types on groups acting on a curve, namely the automorphism group of a compact Riemann surface, the mapping class group acting on a surface (which now is allowed to have some points removed) and the absolute Galois group $\mathrm{Gal}(\bar{\Q}/\Q)$ in the case of cyclic covers of the projective line.
Let $B$ be a Noetherian normal local ring, and $G\subset\Aut(B)$ a cyclic group of local automorphisms of prime order. Let $A$ be the ring of $G$-invariants of $B$, assume that $A$ is Noetherian. We study the invariant morphism; in particular, we prove that $B$ is a monogenous $A$-algebra if and only if the augmentation ideal of $B$ is principal. If in particular $B$ is regular, we prove that $A$ is regular if the augmentation ideal of $B$ is principal.
We define a moduli space of rational curves with finite-order automorphism and weighted orbits, and we prove that the combinatorics of its boundary strata are encoded by a particular polytopal complex that also captures the algebraic structure of a complex reflection group acting on the moduli space. This generalizes the situation for Losev-Manin's moduli space of curves (whose boundary strata are encoded by the permutohedron and related to the symmetric group) as well as the situation for Batyrev-Blume's moduli space of curves with involution, and it extends that work beyond the toric context…
A family of new algebraic Poisson varieties will be constructed, generalising the complex character varieties of Riemann surfaces. Then the well-known (Poisson) mapping class group actions on the character varieties will be generalised.
The Wronski map is a finite, PGL_2(C)-equivariant morphism from the Grassmannian Gr(d,n) to a projective space (the projectivization of a vector space of polynomials). We consider the following problem. If C_r < PGL_2(C) is a cyclic subgroup of order r, how may C_r-fixed points are in the in a fibre of the Wronski map over a C_r-fixed point in the base? In this paper, we compute a general answer in terms of r-ribbon tableaux. When r=2, this computation gives the number of real points in the fibre of the Wronski map over a real polynomial with purely imaginary roots. More generally, we can comp…
We describe the possible linear actions of a cyclic group $G = \mathbb{Z} /n$ on a complex torus, using the cyclotomic exact sequence for the group algebra $\mathbb{Z} [G]$. The main application is devoted to a structure theorem for Bagnera-De Franchis Manifolds, but we also give an application to hypergeometric integrals.
A weak wild arithmetic quotient singularity arises from the quotient of a smooth arithmetic surface by a finite group action, where the inertia group of a point on a closed characteristic p fiber is a p-group acting with smallest possible ramification jump. In this paper, we give complete explicit resolutions of these singularities using deformation theory and valuation theory, taking a more local perspective than previous work has taken. Our descriptions answer several questions of Lorenzini. Along the way, we give a valuation-theoretic criterion for a normal snc-model of P^1 over a discretel…
