We define cylinder knots as billiard knots in a cylinder. We present a necessary condition for cylinder knots: after dividing cylinder knots by possible rotational symmetries we obtain ribbon knots. We obtain an upper bound for the number of cylinder knots with two fixed parameters (out of three). In addition we prove that rosette knots are cylinder knots.

The Jones polynomials of 3-bridge knots via Chebyshev knots and billiard table diagrams

This work presents formulas for the Kauffman bracket and Jones polynomials of 3-bridge knots using the structure of Chebyshev knots and their billiard table diagrams. In particular, these give far fewer terms than in the Skein relation expansion. The subject is introduced by considering the easier case of 2-bridge knots, where some geometric interpretation is provided, as well, via combinatorial tiling problems.

Maps from knots in the cylinder to flat-virtual knots

In the present paper, we address the problem how to get a map from knots in the cylinder and on the thickened torus to some (generalisation of) virtual knots called virtual-flat knots. Poncelet's theorem and Billiard knots

Let $D$ be any elliptic right cylinder. We prove that every type of knot can be realized as the trajectory of a ball in $D.$ This proves a conjecture of Lamm and gives a new proof of a conjecture of Jones and Przytycki. We use Jacobi's proof of Poncelet's theorem by means of elliptic functions.

Random knots using Chebyshev billiard table diagrams

We use the Chebyshev knot diagram model of Koseleff and Pecker in order to introduce a random knot diagram model by assigning the crossings to be positive or negative uniformly at random. We give a formula for the probability of choosing a knot at random among all knots with bridge index at most 2. Restricted to this class, we define internal and external reduction moves that decrease the number of crossings of the diagram. Symmetry of geometrical figures is reflected in regularities of their algebraic invariants. Algebraic regularities are often preserved when the geometrical figure is topologically deformed. Homology cylinders and sutured manifolds for homologically fibered knots

Sutured manifolds defined by Gabai are useful in the geometrical study of knots and 3-dimensional manifolds. Crossing Numbers of Random Two-Bridge Knots

In a previous work, the first and third authors studied a random knot model for all two-bridge knots using billiard table diagrams. Here we present a closed formula for the distribution of the crossing numbers of such random knots. We also show that the probability of any given knot appearing in this model decays to zero at an exponential rate as the length of the billiard table goes to infinity. This confirms a conjecture from the previous work.

On homotopies with triple points of classical knots

We consider a knot homotopy as a cylinder in 4-space. An ordinary triple point $p$ of the cylinder is called {\em coherent} if all three branches intersect at $p$ pairwise with the same index. A {\em triple unknotting} of a classical knot $K$ is a homotopy which connects $K$ with the trivial knot and which has as singularities only coherent triple points. We give a new formula for the first Vassiliev invariant $v_2(K)$ by using triple unknottings. Upsilon invariant for graphs and the homology cobordism group of homology cylinders

Upsilon is a homomorphism on the smooth concordance group of knots defined by Ozsváth, Stipsicz and Szabó. In this paper, we define a generalization of upsilon for a family of embedded graphs in rational homolog spheres. We show that our invariant will induce a homomorphism on the homology cobordism group of homology cylinders, and present some applications. To define this invariant, we use tangle Floer homology. We lift relative gradings on tangle Floer homology to absolute gradings (for certain tangles) and prove a concatenation formula for it.
