The necessary multiplier conditions for Laguerre expansions derived in Gasper and Trebels \cite{laguerre} are supplemented and modified. This allows us to place Markett's Cohen type inequality \cite{cohen} (up to the $\log $--case) in the general framework of necessary conditions.
Using the standard square--function method (based on the Poisson semigroup), multiplier conditions of Hörmander type are derived for Laguerre expansions in $L^p$--spaces with power weights in the $A_p$-range; this result can be interpreted as an ``upper end point'' multiplier criterion which is fairly good for $p$ near $1$ or near $\infty $. A weighted generalization of Kanjin's \cite{kan} transplantation theorem allows to obtain a ``lower end point'' multiplier criterion whence by interpolation nearly ``optimal'' multiplier criteria (in dependance of $p$, the order of the Laguerre polynomial,…
We present a new criterion for the weighted $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of multiplier operators for Laguerre and Hermite expansions that arise from a Laplace-Stieltjes transform. As a special case, we recover known results on weighted estimates for Laguerre and Hermite fractional integrals with a unified and simpler approach.
We investigate Laplace type and Laplace-Stieltjes type multipliers in the $d$-dimensional setting of the Dunkl harmonic oscillator with the associated group of reflections isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_2^d$ and in the related context of Laguerre function expansions of convolution type. We use Calderón-Zygmund theory to prove that these multiplier operators are bounded on weighted $L^p$, $1<p<\infty$, and from $L^1$ to weak $L^1$.
In 1965 K. de Leeuw \cite{deleeuw} proved among other things in the Fourier transform setting: {\it If a continuous function $m(ξ_1, \ldots ,ξ_n)$ on ${\bf R}^n$ generates a bounded transformation on $L^p({\bf R}^n),\; 1\le p \le \infty ,$ then its trace $\tilde{m}(ξ_1, \ldots ,ξ_m)=m(ξ_1, \ldots ,ξ_m,0,\ldots ,0), \; m<n,$ generates a bounded transformation on $L^p({\bf R}^m)$. } In this paper, the analogous problem is discussed in the setting of Laguerre expansions of different orders.
We give a complete characterization of multiplier sequences for generalized Laguerre bases. We also apply our methods to give a short proof of the characterization of Hermite multiplier sequences achieved by Piotrowski.
The aim of this note is to provide a fractional integration theorem in the framework of Laguerre expansions. The method of proof consists of establishing an asymptotic estimate for the involved kernel and then applying a method of Hedberg \cite{pro}. We combine this result with sufficient $(p,p)$ multiplier criteria of Stempak and Trebels \cite{ST}. The resulting sufficient $(p,q)$ multiplier criteria are comparable with necessary ones of Gasper and Trebels \cite{laguerre}.
We develop a technique of proving standard estimates in the setting of Laguerre function expansions of convolution type, which works for all admissible type multi-indices $α$ in this context. This generalizes a simpler method existing in the literature, but being valid for a restricted range of $α$. As an application, we prove that several fundamental operators in harmonic analysis of the Laguerre expansions, including maximal operators related to the heat and Poisson semigroups, Riesz transforms, Littlewood-Paley-Stein type square functions and multipliers of Laplace and Laplace-Stieltjes tra…
In this paper we give sufficient conditions on a measurable function $p:(0,\infty)^n\rightarrow [1,\infty)$ in order that harmonic analysis operators (maximal operators, Riesz transforms, Littlewood--Paley functions and multipliers) associated with $α$-Laguerre polynomial expansions are bounded on the variable Lebesgue space $L^{p(\cdot)} ((0,\infty)^n, μ_α)$, where $dμ_α(x)=2^n\prod_{j=1}^n \frac{x_j^{2α_j+1} e^{-x_j^2}}{Γ(α_j+1)} dx$, being $α=(α_1, \dots, α_n)\in [0,\infty)^n$ and $x=(x_1,\dots,x_n)\in (0,\infty)^n$.
We prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the integrability of the weight associated to the exceptional Laguerre polynomials. This condition is very much related to the fact that the associated second order differential operator has no singularities in $(0,+\infty)$.
In this paper we give a criterion to prove boundedness results for several operators from $H^1((0,\infty),γ_α)$ to $L^1((0,\infty),γ_α)$ and also from $L^\infty((0,\infty),γ_α)$ to $\BMO((0,\infty),γ_α)$, with respect to the probability measure $dγ_α(x)=\frac{2}{Γ(α+1)} x^{2α+1} e^{-x^2} dx$ on $(0,\infty)$ when ${α>-\frac12}$. We shall apply it to establish endpoint estimates for Riesz transforms, maximal operators, Littlewood-Paley functions, multipliers of Laplace transform type, fractional integrals and variation operators in the Laguerre setting.
Sufficient ultraspherical multiplier criteria are refined in such a way that they are comparable with necessary multiplier conditions. Also new necessary conditions for Jacobi multipliers are deduced which, in particular, imply known Cohen type inequalities. Muckenhoupt's transplantation theorem is used in an essential way.
We give one sufficient and two necessary conditions for boundedness between Lebesgue or Lorentz spaces of several classes of bilinear multiplier operators closely connected with the bilinear Hilbert transform.
We give a simple necessary and sufficient condition for maximal operators associated with radial Fourier multipliers to be bounded on $L^p_{rad}$ and $L^p$ for certain $p$ greater than $2$. The range of exponents obtained for the $L^p_{rad}$ characterization is optimal for the given condition. The $L^p$ characterization is derived from an inequality of Heo, Nazarov, and Seeger regarding a characterization of radial Fourier multipliers.
Let $f_k$ be the $k$-th Fourier coefficient of a function $f$ in terms of the orthonormal Hermite, Laguerre or Jacobi polynomials. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on $f$ for the inequality $\sum_{k}|f_k|^2θ^k<\infty$ to hold with $θ>1$. As a by-product new orthogonality relations for the Hermite and Laguerre polynomials are found. The basic machinery for the proofs is provided by the theory of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces.
We prove that the condition \begin{equation} \sum_{n=1}^\infty\frac{1}{nw(n)}<\infty \end{equation} is necessary for an increasing sequence of numbers $w(n)$ to be an almost everywhere unconditional convergence Weyl multiplier for the trigonometric system. This property for Haar, Walsh, Franklin and some other classical orthogonal systems was known long ago. The proof of this result is based on a new sharp logarithmic lower bound on $L^2$ of the majorant operator related to the rearranged trigonometric system.
We study a multilinear version of Hörmander multiplier theorem, namely \begin{equation*} \Vert T_σ(f_1,\dots,f_n)\Vert_{L^p}\lesssim \sup_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}{\Vert σ(2^k\cdot,\dots,2^k\cdot)\widehat{ϕ^{(n)}}\Vert_{L^{2}_{(s_1,\dots,s_n)}}}\Vert f_1\Vert_{H^{p_1}}\cdots\Vert f_n\Vert_{H^{p_n}}. \end{equation*} We show that the estimate does not hold in the limiting case $\min{(s_1,\dots,s_n)}=d/2$ or $\sum_{k\in J}{({s_k}/{d}-{1}/{p_k})}=-{1}/{2}$ for some $J \subset \{1,\dots,n\}$. This provides the necessary and sufficient condition on $(s_1,\dots,s_n)$ for the boundedness of $T_σ$.
It is known (see \cite[Brändén, Lemma 2.7]{B10}) that a necessary condition for $T:=\sum Q_k(x) D^k$ to be hyperbolicity preserving is that $Q_k(x)$ and $Q_{k-1}(x)$ have interlacing zeros. We characterize all quadratic linear operators, as a consequence we find several classes of $P_n$-multiplier sequence.
We study the problem of characterizing Hankel-Schur multipliers and Toeplitz-Schur multipliers of Schatten-von Neumann class $\bS_p$ for $0<p<1$. We obtain various sharp necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for a Hankel matrix to be a Schur multiplier of $\bS_p$. We also give a characterization of the Hankel-Schur multipliers of $\bS_p$ whose symbols have lacunary power series. Then the results on Hankel-Schur multipliers are used to obtain a characterization of the Toeplitz-Schur multipliers of $\bS_p$. Finally, we return to Hankel-Schur multipliers and obtain new results in the cas…
