Reduction of branes in generalized complex geometry

We show that certain submanifolds of generalized complex manifolds ("weak branes") admit a natural quotient which inherits a generalized complex structure. This is analog to quotienting coisotropic submanifolds of symplectic manifolds. In particular Gualtieri's generalized complex submanifolds ("branes") quotient to space-filling branes. Along the way we perform reductions by foliations (i.e. no group action is involved) for exact Courant algebroids - interpreting the reduced Ševera class - and for Dirac structures.

Azumaya noncommutative geometry and D-branes - an origin of the master nature of D-branes

In this lecture I review how a matrix/Azumaya-type noncommutative geometry arises for D-branes in string theory and how such a geometry serves as an origin of the master nature of D-branes; and then highlight an abundance conjecture on D0-brane resolutions of singularities that is extracted and purified from a work of Douglas and Moore in 1996. A conjectural relation of our setting with `D-geometry' in the sense of Douglas is also given. The lecture is based on a series of works on D-branes with Shing-Tung Yau, and in part with Si Li and Ruifang Song.

Supersymmetric Kaluza-Klein reductions of M2 and M5-branes

We classify and construct all the smooth Kaluza-Klein reductions to ten dimensions of the M2- and M5-brane configurations which preserve some of the supersymmetry. In this way we obtain a wealth of new supersymmetric IIA backgrounds describing composite configurations of D-branes, NS-branes and flux/nullbranes; bound states of D2-branes and strings, D4-branes and NS5-branes, as well as some novel configurations in which the quotient involves nowhere-vanishing transverse rotations to the brane twisted by a timelike or lightlike translation. Geometry of D-branes for general N=(2,2) sigma models

We give a world-sheet description of D-brane in terms of gluing conditions on T+T^*. Using the notion of generalized Kahler geometry we show that A- and B-types D-branes for the general N=(2,2) supersymmetric sigma model (including a non-trivial NS-flux) correspond to the (twisted) generalized complex submanifolds with respect to the different (twisted) generalized complex structures however.

D-branes and synthetic/$C^{\infty}$-algebraic symplectic/calibrated geometry, I: Lemma on a finite algebraicness property of smooth maps from Azumaya/matrix manifolds

We lay down an elementary yet fundamental lemma concerning a finite algebraicness property of a smooth map from an Azumaya/matrix manifold with a fundamental module to a smooth manifold. This gives us a starting point to build a synthetic (synonymously, $C^{\infty}$-algebraic) symplectic geometry and calibrated geometry that are both tailored to and guided by D-brane phenomena in string theory and along the line of our previous works D(11.1) (arXiv:1406.0929 [math.DG]) and D(11.2) (arXiv:1412.0771 [hep-th]).

D-branes and Azumaya/matrix noncommutative differential geometry, I: D-branes as fundamental objects in string theory and differentiable maps from Azumaya/matrix manifolds with a fundamental module to real manifolds

Brane current algebras and generalised geometry from QP manifolds

We construct a Poisson algebra of brane currents from a QP-manifold (alias symplectic $L_\infty$-algebroid), and show their Poisson brackets take a universal geometric form. This generalises a result of Alekseev and Strobl on string currents and generalised geometry to include branes with worldvolume gauge fields, such as the D3 and M5. Brane Wess-Zumino terms from AKSZ and exceptional generalised geometry as an $L_\infty$-algebroid

We reinterpret the generalised Lie derivative of M-theory $E_6$ generalised geometry as hamiltonian flow on a graded symplectic supermanifold. The hamiltonian acts as the nilpotent derivative of the tensor hierarchy of exceptional field theory. This construction is an M-theory analogue of the Courant algebroid and reveals the $L_\infty$-algebra underlying the tensor hierarchy. Branes at angles and calibrated geometry

In a recent paper, Ohta and Townsend studied the conditions which must be satisfied for a configuration of two intersecting M5-branes at angles to be supersymmetric. In this paper we extend this result to any number of M5-branes or any number of M2-branes. This is accomplished by interpreting their results in terms of calibrated geometry, which is of independent interest.

D-brane couplings and Generalised Geometry

The goal of this paper is to re-examine D-brane Ramond-Ramond field couplings in the presence of a B-field. We will argue that the generalised geometry induced on the world volume by the B-field results in an important but subtle change on the coupling. In order to explain this, we use the language of differential K-theory. The expression determining the coupling is then seen to be a consequence of the Riemann-Roch theorem. Hitchin's generalized complex geometry has been shown to be relevant in compactifications of superstring theory with fluxes and is expected to lead to a deeper understanding of mirror symmetry.
