We present a connection between the BFV-complex (abbreviation for Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky complex) and the so-called strong homotopy Lie algebroid associated to a coisotropic submanifold of a Poisson manifold. We prove that the latter structure can be derived from the BFV-complex by means of homotopy transfer along contractions. Consequently the BFV-complex and the strong homotopy Lie algebroid structure are $L_{\infty}$ quasi-isomorphic and control the same formal deformation problem.
However there is a gap between the non-formal information encoded in the BFV-complex and in the strong homotopy Lie algebroid respectively. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between coisotropic submanifolds given by graphs of sections and equivalence classes of normalized Maurer-Cartan elemens of the BFV-complex. This does not hold if one uses the strong homotopy Lie algebroid instead.
We give a quick method of constructing strong homotopy associative algebra, namely, the higher derived product construction. This method is associative analogue of classical higher derived bracket construction in the category of Loday algebras. We introduce a new type of algebra "Loday pair" which is noncommutative analogue of classical Leibniz pair. We study strong homotopy Loday pairs and the higher derived brackets on the Loday pairs.
Using the quantum construction of the BV-BFV method for perturbative gauge theories, we show that the obstruction for quantizing a codimension 1 theory is given by the second cohomology group with respect to the boundary BRST charge. Moreover, we give an idea for the algebraic construction of codimension $k$ quantizations in terms of $\mathbb{E}_k$-algebras and higher shifted Poisson structures by formulating a higher version of the quantum master equation.
We give a construction of homotopy algebras based on ``higher derived brackets''. More precisely, the data include a Lie superalgebra with a projector on an Abelian subalgebra satisfying a certain axiom, and an odd element $Δ$. Given this, we introduce an infinite sequence of higher brackets on the image of the projector, and explicitly calculate their Jacobiators in terms of $Δ^2$. This allows to control higher Jacobi identities in terms of the ``order'' of $Δ^2$. Examples include Stasheff's strongly homotopy Lie algebras and variants of homotopy Batalin--Vilkovisky algebras. There is a gener…
Motivated by string field theory, we explore various algebraic aspects of higher spin theory and Vasiliev equation in terms of homotopy algebras. We present a systematic study of unfolded formulation developed for the higher spin equation in terms of the Maurer-Cartan equation associated to differential forms valued in L-infinity algebras. The elimination of auxiliary variables of Vasiliev equation is analyzed through homological perturbation theory. This leads to a closed combinatorial graph formula for all the vertices of higher spin equations in the unfolded formulation. We also discover a …
We consider two different constructions of higher brackets. First, based on a Grassmann-odd, nilpotent Δoperator, we define a non-commutative generalization of the higher Koszul brackets, which are used in a generalized Batalin-Vilkovisky algebra, and we show that they form a homotopy Lie algebra. Secondly, we investigate higher, so-called derived brackets built from symmetrized, nested Lie brackets with a fixed nilpotent Lie algebra element Q. We find the most general Jacobi-like identity that such a hierarchy satisfies. The numerical coefficients in front of each term in these generalized Ja…
We describe $L_\infty$-algebras governing homotopy relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and triangular $L_\infty$-bialgebras, and establish a map between them. Our formulas are based on a functorial approach to Voronov's higher derived brackets construction which is of independent interest.
We will introduce the notion of higher derived bracket construction in the category of operads and prove that the higher derived bracket construction of Lie operad is equivalent to the cobar construction of Leibniz operad. The theorem is proved by computing Schroder number.
We define Lie 3-algebras and prove that these are in 1-to-1 correspondence with the 3-term Lie infinity algebras whose bilinear and trilinear maps vanish in degree (1,1) and in total degree 1, respectively. Further, we give an answer to a question of [Roy07] pertaining to the use of the nerve and normalization functors in the study of the relationship between categorified algebras and truncated sh algebras.
We prove that the parallel transport of a flat $n-1$-gerbe on any given target space gives rise to an $n$-dimensional extended homotopy quantum field theory. In case the target space is the classifying space of a finite group, we provide explicit formulae for this homotopy quantum field theory in terms of transgression. Moreover, we use the geometric theory of orbifolds to give a dimension-independent version of twisted and equivariant Dijkgraaf-Witten models. Finally, we introduce twisted equivariant Dijkgraaf-Witten theories giving us in the 3-2-1-dimensional case a new class of equivariant …
The purpose of this foundational paper is to introduce various notions and constructions in order to develop the homotopy theory for differential graded operads over any ring. The main new idea is to consider the action of the symmetric groups as part of the defining structure of an operad and not as the underlying category. We introduce a new dual category of higher cooperads, a new higher bar-cobar adjunction with the category of operads, and a new higher notion of homotopy operads, for which we establish the relevant homotopy properties. For instance, the higher bar-cobar construction provi…
We extend the algebra of local observables in topological conformal field theories by nonlocal operators. This allows to construct parameter-dependent operations realized via certain integrals over the compactified moduli spaces, satisfying analogues of the Leibniz and higher order Leibniz identities holding up to homotopy. We conjecture that one can construct a complete set of such operations which lead to a parameter-dependent version of Loday's homotopy Leibniz algebras.
We present a novel approach to the problem of integrating homotopy Lie algebras by representing the Maurer-Cartan space functor with a universal cosimplicial object. This recovers Getzler's original functor but allows us to prove the existence of additional, previously unknown, structures and properties. Namely, we introduce a well-behaved left adjoint functor, we establish functoriality with respect to infinity-morphisms, and we construct a coherent hierarchy of higher Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formulas. Thanks to these tools, we are able to establish the most important results of higher Lie t…
The transfer of the generating operations of an algebra to a homotopy equivalent chain complex produces higher operations. The first goal of this paper is to describe precisely the higher structure obtained when the unary operations commute with the contracting homotopy. To solve this problem, we develop the Koszul duality theory of operads in the category of modules over a cocommutative Hopf algebra. This gives rise to a simpler category of homotopy algebras and infinity-morphisms, which allows us to get a new description of the homotopy category of algebras over such operads. The main exampl…
