By the maximum principle, a harmonic curve has no bounded components; its topology is determined by the combinatorial data of a noncrossing matching. We prove that there exists a pencil of Enriques surfaces defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ with non-algebraic integral Hodge classes of non-torsion type. This gives the first example of a threefold with the trivial Chow group of zero-cycles on which the integral Hodge conjecture fails. As an application, we construct a fourfold which gives the negative answer to a classical question of Murre on the universality of the Abel-Jacobi maps in codimension three.
We prove a transcendence theorem concerning values of holomorphic maps from a disk to a quasi-projective variety over $\overline{\mathbf{Q}}$ that are integral curves of some algebraic vector field (defined over $\overline{\mathbf{Q}}$). This article shows that every non-isotropic harmonic 2-torus in complex projective space factors through a generalised Jacobi variety related to the spectral curve. Each map is composed of a homomorphism into the variety and a rational map off it. The same ideas allow one to construct (pluri)-harmonic maps of finite type from Euclidean space into Grassmannians and the projective unitary groups. In this paper consisting of two parts, we study the integral of a logarithmic differential form on a compact semi-algebraic set in R^n or C^n. In Part I, we prove the convergence of the integral when the semi-algebraic set satisfies allowability (or admissibility), a condition on the dimension of the intersection of the set and the pole divisor of the differential form.
We propose an algebraic method for proving estimates on moments of stochastic integrals. The method uses qualitative properties of roots of algebraic polynomials from certain general classes. As an application, we give a new proof of a variation of the Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequality for the case of stochastic integrals with respect to real locally square integrable martingales. Further possible applications and extensions of the method are outlined.
Following the work of Gangl, Goncharov and Levin in [GGL], we will give a combinatorial framework for motivic study of iterated integrals on the affine line. We will show that under a certain genericity condition these combinatorial objects yield to elements in the motivic Hopf algebra constructed in Bloch-Kriz [BK]. It will be shown that the Hodge realization of these elements coincides with the Hodge structure induced from the fundamental torsor of path of punctured affine line.
We establish a braid monodromy representation of functions satisfying an algebraic equation containing three terms (trinomial equation). We follow global analytic continuation of the roots to a trinomial algebraic equation that are expressed by Mellin-Barnes integral representations. We depict braids that arise from the monodromy around all branching points.
