We study the two-dimensional reduction of the Michaelis-Menten reaction of enzyme kinetics. First, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a slow manifold between the horizontal and vertical isoclines. Second, we determine the concavity of all solutions in the first quadrant. Third, we establish the asymptotic behaviour of all solutions near the origin, which generally is not given by a Taylor series. Finally, we determine the asymptotic behaviour of the slow manifold at infinity.

Bifurcations of a Leslie Gower predator prey model with Holling type III functional response and Michaelis-Menten prey harvesting

We discuss the stability and bifurcation analysis for a predator-prey system with non-linear Michaelis-Menten prey harvesting. The existence and stability of possible equilibria are investigated. We provide rigorous mathematical proofs for the existence of Hopf and saddle node bifurcations. We prove that the system exhibits Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation of codimension two, calculating the normal form. We provide several numerical simulations to illustrate our theoretical findings.

Hopf bifurcation of the Michaelis-Menten type ratio-dependent predator-prey model with age structure

This paper is devoted to the study of a predator-prey model with predator-age structure that involves Michaelis-Menten type ratio-dependent functional response. We study some dynamical properties of the model by using the theory of integrated semigroup and the Hopf bifurcation theory for semilinear equations with non-dense domain. The existence of Hopf bifurcation is established by regarding the biological maturation period $τ$ as the bifurcation parameter. The computer simulations and sensitivity analysis on parameters are also performed to illustrate the conclusions.

On the quasi-steady-state approximation in an open Michaelis--Menten reaction mechanism

Asymptotic Behaviour Near a Nonlinear Sink

In this paper, we will develop an iterative procedure to determine the detailed asymptotic behaviour of solutions of a certain class of nonlinear vector differential equations which approach a nonlinear sink as time tends to infinity. This procedure is indifferent to resonance in the eigenvalues. Moreover, we will address the writing of one component of a solution in terms of the other in the case of a planar system. Analysis of the CSP Reduction Method for Chemical Kinetics

This article is concerned with the asymptotic accuracy of the Computational Singular Perturbation (CSP) method developed by Lam and Goussis to reduce the dimensionality of a system of chemical kinetics equations. The method exploits the presence of disparate time scales to model the dynamics by an evolution equation on a lower-dimensional slow manifold. In this article it is shown that the successive applications of the CSP algorithm generate, order by order, the asymptotic expansion of a slow manifold. The results are illustrated on the Michaelis-Menten-Henri equations of enzyme kinetics.

An iterative method for the approximation of fibers in slow-fast systems

In this paper we extend a method for iteratively improving slow manifolds so that it also can be used to approximate the fiber directions. The extended method is applied to general finite dimensional real analytic systems where we obtain exponential estimates of the tangent spaces to the fibers. The method is demonstrated on the Michaelis-Menten-Henri model and the Lindemann mechanism. The latter example also serves to demonstrate the method on a slow-fast system in non-standard slow-fast form. Finally, we extend the method further so that it also approximates the curvature of the fibers.
