In a recent manuscript, D.Vogan conjectures that four canonical globalizations of Harish-Chandra modules commute with certain n-cohomology groups. In this article we focus on the case of a complex reductive group and prove that Vogan's conjecture holds for one of the globalizations if and only if it holds for the dual. We thus prove Vogan's conjecture for the maximal globalization if the reductive Lie group is complex and connected.

We extend classical results of Kostant and al. on multiplets of representations of finite-dimensional Lie algebras and on the cubic Dirac operator to the setting of affine Lie algebras and twisted affine cubic Dirac operator. We prove in this setting an analogue of Vogan's conjecture on infinitesimal characters of Harish-Chandra modules in terms of Dirac cohomology. For our calculations we use the machinery of Lie conformal and vertex algebras.
In this paper we prove Vogan's conjecture on Arthur packets for general linear groups over $p$-adic fields, building on earlier work. The proof uses a special case of endoscopic lifting, adapted from the 1992 book by Adams, Barbasch and Vogan, where it was articulated for real groups.
In a recent manuscript, D.Vogan conjectures that four canonical globalizations of Harish-Chandra modules commute with certain n-cohomology groups. In this article we prove that Vogan's conjecture holds for one of the globalizations if and only if it holds for the dual. Using a previously published result of one of the authors, which establishes the conjecture for the minimal globalization, we can therefore deduce Vogan's conjecture for the maximal globalization.
A Langlands parameter, in the Langlands dual group, can be decomposed into a product of a tempered parameter and a positive quasi-character. Fixing a tempered parameter, Arthur conjectured that positive quasi-characters corresponding to certain weighted Dynkin diagrams for the centralizer of the tempered parameter will yield unitary representations. In this paper, we treat one basic case in Arthur's conjecture for the special orthogonal groups. We establish the unitarity for a class of Langlands-Vogan parameters in Arthur's packet.
The Vogan Conjectures (sometimes called Kazhdan-Lusztig Conjectures) say that a certain algorithm works both on the category of BGG modules and on the category of Harish-Chandra modules. The Alexandru Conjecture tries to uncover the general property common to these two categories which makes Vogan's algorithm work.
Let G be a reductive group over an algebraically closed field k of very good characteristic. The Lusztig-Vogan bijection is a bijection between the set of dominant weights for G and the set of irreducible G-equivariant vector bundles on nilpotent orbits, conjectured by Lusztig and Vogan independently, and constructed in full generality by Bezrukavnikov. In characteristic 0, this bijection is related to the theory of 2-sided cells in the affine Weyl group, and plays a key role in the proof of the Humphreys conjecture on support varieties of tilting modules for quantum groups at a root of unity.…
In this paper we prove Vogan's conjecture on local Arthur packets, for Arthur parameters of $p$-adic general linear groups that are irreducible as representations of $W_F \times SL_2(\mathbb{C}) \times SL_2(\mathbb{C})$ - we refer to such parameters as irreducible Arthur parameters. This result shows that these Arthur packets may be characterized by properties of simple perverse sheaves on a moduli space of Langlands parameters.
This is the third paper in the series. Here we define a few combinatorial orders on Young tableaux. The first order is obtained from induced Duflo order by the extension with the help of Vogan T_{α, β} procedure. We call it Duflo-Vogan order. The second order is obtained from the generalization of Spaltenstein's construction by consideration of an orbital variety as a double chain of nilpotent orbits. We call it the chain order. Again, we use Vogan's T_{α, β} procedure, however, this time to restrict the chain order. We call it Vogan-chain order. The order on Young tableaux defined by the incl…
Vogan and Barbasch-Vogan attach two similar invariants to representations of a reductive Lie group, one by an algebraic process, the other analytic. They conjectured that the two invariants determine each other in a definite manner. Here we prove the conjecture. Our arguments involve two finer invariants -- the characteristic cycles of representations -- which are interesting in their own right.
Let $F$ be a non-Archimedean local field of characteristic $0$, let $G$ be the group of $F$-rational points of a connected reductive group defined over $F$ and let $G'$ be the group of $F$-rational points of its quasi-split inner form. Given standard modules $I(τ,ν)$ and $I(τ',ν')$ for $G$ and $G'$ respectively with $τ'$ a generic tempered representation, such that the Harish-Chandra's $μ$-functions of a representation in the supercuspidal support of $τ$ and of a generic essentially square-integral representation in some Jacquet module of $τ'$ agree (after a suitable identification of the unde…
Let $G$ be a complex connected simple algebraic group with a fixed real form $σ$. Let $G(\mathbb{R})=G^σ$ be the corresponding group of real points. This paper reports a finiteness theorem for the classification of irreducible unitary Harish-Chandra modules of $G(\mathbb{R})$ (up to equivalence) having non-vanishing Dirac cohomology. Moreover, we study the distribution of the spin norm along Vogan pencils for certain $G(\mathbb{R})$, with particular attention paid to the unitarily small convex hull introduced by Salamanca-Riba and Vogan.
In this note I introduce a new approach to (or rather a new language for) representation theory of groups. Namely, I propose to consider a (complex) representation of a group $G$ as a sheaf on some geometric object (a stack). This point of view necessarily leads to a conclusion that the standard approach to (continuous) representations of algebraic groups is ideologically inconsistent. I propose a way to modify this approach using sheaves on stacks. In new version I corrected some misprints and added an explanation how stack's approach is related to Vogan's picture of representations.
Let $G$ be a group and $H$ be a subgroup of $G$. The classical branching rule (or symmetry breaking) asks: For an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$, determine the occurrence of an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$ in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. The reciprocal branching problem of this classical branching problem is to ask: For an irreducible representation $σ$ of $H$, find an irreducible representation $π$ of $G$ such that $σ$ occurs in the restriction of $π$ to $H$. For automorphic representations of classical groups, the branching problem has been addressed by the well-known globa…
We define analogues of the Casimir and Dirac operators for graded affine Hecke algebras, and establish a version of Parthasarathy's Dirac operator inequality. We then prove a version of Vogan's Conjecture for Dirac cohomology. The formulation of the conjecture depends on a uniform geometric parametrization of spin representations of Weyl groups. Finally, we apply our results to the study of unitary representations.
In the monograph arXiv:2108.03453, we define the notion of a unipotent representation of a complex reductive group. The representations we define include, as a proper subset, all special unipotent representations in the sense of Barbasch-Vogan and form the (conjectural) building blocks of the unitary dual. In arXiv:2108.03453 we provide combinatorial formulas for the infinitesimal characters of all unipotent representations of linear classical groups. In this paper, we establish analogous formulas for spin and exceptional groups, thus completing the determination of the infinitesimal character…
Let $(W, S)$ be a Coxeter system equipped with a fixed automorphism $\ast$ of order $\leq 2$ which preserves $S$. Lusztig (and with Vogan in some special cases) have shown that the space spanned by set of "twisted" involutions was naturally endowed with a module structure of the Hecke algebra of $(W, S)$. Lusztig has conjectured that this module is isomorphic to the right ideal of the Hecke algebra (with Hecke parameter $u^2$) associated to $(W,S)$ generated by the element $X_{\emptyset}:=\sum_{w^\ast=w}u^{-\ell(w)}T_w$. In this paper we prove this conjecture in the case when $\ast=\text{id}$ …
In this article we propose a geometric description of Arthur packets for $p$-adic groups using vanishing cycles of perverse sheaves. Our approach is inspired by the 1992 book by Adams, Barbasch and Vogan on the Langlands classification of admissible representations of real groups and follows the direction indicated by Vogan in his 1993 paper on the Langlands correspondence. Using vanishing cycles, we introduce and study a functor from the category of equivariant perverse sheaves on the moduli space of certain Langlands parameters to local systems on the regular part of the conormal bundle for …
The first half of this article is expository -- I will review, with examples, the main statements of the Langlands classification and Arthur's conjectures for real reductive groups as formulated by Adams, Barbasch, and Vogan. In the second half, I will turn my attention to the Orbit Method, a conjectural scheme for classifying irreducible unitary representations of a real reductive group. I will give a definition of the Orbit Method in the case when the group is complex. The main input is the theory of unipotent ideals and Harish-Chandra bimodules, developed in arXiv:2108.03453. I will show th…
Let $G$ be the complex exceptional Lie group of type $G_2$. Among the five nilpotent orbits in its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, only the 8-dimensional orbit $\mathcal{O}_8$ has non-normal orbit closure $\bar{\mathcal{O}_8}$. In this short note, we will give a quantization model of $\bar{\mathcal{O}_8}$, verifying a conjecture of Vogan in 1984.
Refined forms of the local Langlands correspondence seek to relate representations of reductive groups over local fields with sheaves on stacks of Langlands parameters. But what kind of sheaves? Conjectures in the spirit of Kazhdan-Lusztig theory (due to Vogan and Soergel) describe representations of a group and its pure inner forms with fixed central character in terms of constructible sheaves. Conjectures in the spirit of geometric Langlands (due to Fargues, Zhu and Hellmann) describe representations with varying central character of a large family of groups associated to isocrystals in term…
We prove the recent conjectures of Adams-Vogan and D. Prasad on the behavior of the local Langlands correspondence with respect to taking the contragredient of a representation. The proof holds for tempered representations of quasi-split real K-groups and quasi-split p-adic classical groups (in the sense of Arthur). We also prove a formula for the behavior of the local Langlands correspondence for these groups with respect to changes of the Whittaker data.
These are notes for my Takagi lecture at the University of Tokyo in November, 2016. I survey what is known about simple modules for reductive algebraic groups. The emphasis is on characteristic p>0 and Lusztig's character formula. I explain ideas connecting representations and constructible sheaves (Finkelberg-Mirkovic conjecture) in the spirit of the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture. I also discuss a conjecture with S. Riche (a theorem for GL_n) which should eventually make computations more feasible.
We prove analogues for reductive algebraic groups of some results for finite groups due to Knoerr and Robinson which play a central role in their reformulation of Alperin's conjecture for finite groups.
We formulate a version of Hopkins' chromatic splitting conjecture for an arbitrary structured ring spectrum $R$, and prove it whenever $π_*R$ is Noetherian. As an application, these results provide a new local-to-global principle in the modular representation theory of finite groups.
We study the covariant derivatives of an eigenfunction for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a complete, connected Riemannian manifold with nonzero constant sectional curvature. We show that along every parallel tensor, the covariant derivative is a scalar multiple of the eigenfunction. We also show that the scalar is a polynomial depending on the eigenvalue and prove some properties. A conjecture motivated by the study of vertex algebraic structure on space forms is also announced, suggesting the existence of interesting structures in these polynomials that awaits further exploration.
Given a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of an algebraic group over a ring $S,$ we show that the first Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture holds for reductions of $\mathfrak{g} \mod p$ for large enough primes $p,$ reproving a recent result of Martin, Stewart and Topley. As a byproduct of our proof, we show that the center of the skew field of fractions of the the enveloping algebra $\mathfrak{U}\mathfrak{g}_{k}$ for a field $k$ of characteristic $p>>0$ is generated by the $p$-center and by the reduction $\mod p$ of the center of the fraction skew field of $\mathfrak{U}\mathfrak{g}.$
