The geometry of maximal components of the PSp(4,R) character variety

In this paper we describe the space of maximal components of the character variety of surface group representations into PSp(4,R) and Sp(4,R). Non-negative curvature and torus actions

Let $\mathcal{M}_{0}^n$ be the class of closed, simply-connected, non-negatively curved Riemannian manifolds admitting an isometric, effective, isotropy-maximal torus action. We prove that if $M\in \mathcal{M}_{0}^n$, then $M$ is equivariantly diffeomorphic to the free linear quotient by a torus of a product of spheres of dimensions greater than or equal to three. Torus orbifolds, slice-maximal torus actions and rational ellipticity

In this work, it is shown that a simply-connected, rationally-elliptic torus orbifold is equivariantly rationally homotopy equivalent to the quotient of a product of spheres by an almost-free, linear torus action, where this torus has rank equal to the number of odd-dimensional spherical factors in the product. A note on maximal symmetry rank, quasipositive curvature, and low dimensional manifolds

We show that any effective isometric torus action of maximal rank on a compact Riemannian manifold with positive (sectional) curvature and maximal symmetry rank, that is, on a positively curved sphere, lens space, complex or real projective space, is equivariantaly diffeomorphic to a linear action. We show that a compact, simply connected Riemannian 4- or 5-manifold of quasipositive curvature and maximal symmetry rank must be diffeomorphic to the 4-sphere, complex projective plane or the 5-sphere.

Complex manifolds with maximal torus actions

In this paper, we introduce the notion of maximal actions of compact tori on smooth manifolds and study compact connected complex manifolds equipped with maximal actions of compact tori. We give a complete classification of such manifolds, in terms of combinatorial objects, which are triples $(Δ, \mathfrak{h}, G)$ of nonsingular complete fan $Δ$ in $\mathfrak{g}$, complex vector subspace $\mathfrak{h}$ of $\mathfrak{g}^{\mathbb{C}}$ and compact torus $G$ satisfying certain conditions. Alexandrov spaces with maximal number of extremal points

We show that any n-dimensional nonnegatively curved Alexandrov space with the maximal possible number of extremal points is isometric to a quotient space of Euclidean n -space by an action of a crystallographic group. We describe all such actions.

The action of the mapping class group on metrics of positive scalar curvature

We present a rigidity theorem for the action of the mapping class group $π_0(\mathrm{Diff}(M))$ on the space $\mathcal{R}^+(M)$ of metrics of positive scalar curvature for high dimensional manifolds $M$.
