Pure braid subgroups of braided Thompson's groups

Divergence properties of the generalised Thompson groups and the braided-Thompson groups

Golan and Sapir \cite{MR3978542} proved that the Thompson's groups $F$, $T$ and $V$ have linear divergence. In the current paper, we focus on the divergence properties of several generalisation of the Thompson's groups, we first consider the Brown-Thompson's groups $F_n$, $T_n$ and $V_n$ and found out that these groups also have linear divergence function. We then consider the braided Thompson's groups $BF$ and $\widehat{BF}$ and $\widehat{BV}$ together with the result in \cite{Kodama:2020to} we conclude that theses groups have linear divergence.

On normal subgroups of the braided Thompson groups

We inspect the normal subgroup structure of the braided Thompson groups Vbr and Fbr. We prove that every proper normal subgroup of Vbr lies in the kernel of the natural quotient Vbr \onto V, and we exhibit some families of interesting such normal subgroups. For Fbr, we prove that for any normal subgroup N of Fbr, either N is contained in the kernel of Fbr \onto F, or else N contains [Fbr,Fbr]. We also compute the Bieri-Neumann-Strebel invariant Sigma^1(Fbr), which is a useful tool for understanding normal subgroups containing the commutator subgroup.

Bi-orderings on pure braided Thompson's groups

In this paper it is proved that the pure braided Thompson's group BF admits a bi-order, analog to the bi-order of the pure braid groups.

A new family of infinitely braided Thompson's groups

We present a generalization of the Dehornoy-Brin braided Thompson group $BV_2$ that uses recursive braids. Our new groups are denoted by $BV_{n,r}(H)$, for all $n\geq 2,r\geq 1$ and $H \leq \mathcal{B}_n$, where $\mathcal{B}_n$ is the braid group on $n$ strands. We give a new approach to deal with braided Thompson groups by using strand diagrams. We show that $BV_{n,r}(H)$ is finitely generated if $H$ is finitely generated.

The braided Ptolemy-Thompson group is finitely presented

Pursueing our investigations on the relations between Thompson groups and mapping class groups, we introduce the group $T^*$ (and its further generalizations) which is an extension of the Ptolemy-Thompson group $T$ by means of the full braid group $B_{\infty}$ on infinitely many strands. We prove that it is a finitely presented group with solvable word problem, and give an explicit presentation of it.

The braided Ptolemy-Thompson group $T^*$ is asynchronously combable

The braided Ptolemy-Thompson group $T^*$ is an extension of the Thompson group $T$ by the full braid group $B_{\infty}$ on infinitely many strands. This group is a simplified version of the acyclic extension considered by Greenberg and Sergiescu, and can be viewed as a mapping class group of a certain infinite planar surface. In a previous paper we showed that $T^*$ is finitely presented. Our main result here is that $T^*$ (and $T$) is asynchronously combable. The method of proof is inspired by Lee Mosher's proof of automaticity of mapping class groups.

The braided Thompson's groups are of type $F_\infty$

We prove that the braided Thompson's groups $V_{\rm br}$ and $F_{\rm br}$ are of type $F_\infty$, confirming a conjecture by John Meier. The proof involves showing that matching complexes of arcs on surfaces are highly connected. In an appendix, Zaremsky uses these connectivity results to exhibit families of subgroups of the pure braid group that are highly generating, in the sense of Abels and Holz.

Geometric structures related to the braided Thompson groups

In previous work, joint with Bux, Fluch, Marschler and Witzel, we proved that the braided Thompson groups are of type $\textrm{F}_\infty$. The proof utilized certain contractible cube complexes, which in this paper we prove are CAT(0). We then use this fact to compute the geometric invariants $Σ^m(F_{\textrm{br}})$ of the pure braided Thompson group $F_{\textrm{br}}$. Only the first invariant $Σ^1(F_{\textrm{br}})$ was previously known. Asymptotically rigid mapping class groups I: Finiteness properties of braided Thompson's and Houghton's groups

This article is dedicated to the study of asymptotically rigid mapping class groups of infinitely-punctured surfaces obtained by thickening planar trees. Freely braided elements in Coxeter groups

We introduce a notion of "freely braided element" for simply laced Coxeter groups. We show that an arbitrary group element $w$ has at most $2^{N(w)}$ commutation classes of reduced expressions, where $N(w)$ is a certain statistic defined in terms of the positive roots made negative by $w$. This bound is achieved if $w$ is freely braided. In the type $A$ setting, we show that the bound is achieved only for freely braided $w$.

Freely braided elements in Coxeter groups, II

We continue the study of freely braided elements of simply laced Coxeter groups, which we introduced in a previous work (math.CO/0301104). A known upper bound for the number of commutation classes of reduced expressions for an element of a simply laced Coxeter group is shown to be achieved only when the element is freely braided; this establishes the converse direction of a previous result. It is also shown that a simply laced Coxeter group has finitely many freely braided elements if and only if it has finitely many fully commutative elements.
