We study the behavior of the Horrocks-Mumford bundle when restricted to a plane P^2 in P^4, looking for all possible minimal free resolutions for the restricted bundle. To each of the 6 resolutions (4 stable and 2 unstable) we find, we then associate a subvariety of the Grassmannian G(2,4) of planes in P^4. We thus obtain a filtration of the Grassmannian, which we describe in the second part of this work.

This paper explores the birational geometry of a general Horrocks-Mumford quintic threefold, describing the set of all minimal models up to marked isomorphism, the movable fan (the way in which the nef cones of all these models are arranged to form the movable cone), and the birational automorphism group. The natural metric in the Horrocks-Mumford bundle is not Hermitian-Einstein

The Horrocks-Mumford bundle $E$ is a famous stable complex vector bundle of rank 2 on 4-dimensional complex projective space. By construction, $E$ has a natural Hermitian metric $h_1$. On the other hand, stability implies the existence of a Hermitian-Einstein metric in $E$ which is unique up to a positive scalar. Now the obvious question is if $h_1$ is in fact the Hermitian-Einstein metric. In this note we indicate how to show by computation that this is not the case.

A Vector Bundle of Rank 2 on P1 x P3

The paper studies a rank 2 vector bundle on P1 x P3. Similarly to the Horrocks - Mumford bundle on P4 this vector bundle encodes a lot of geometric information. It is defined via the Serre construction by an abelian surface in P1 x P3. The bundle is stable with respect to O(1,1), its jumping lines are determined. Morover it is shown that it is closely related to a double structue on P1 x P1 embedded in P1 x P3 as well as to a certain pencil of quadrics of degree 4 in P3.

Resultants and Chow forms via Exterior Syzygies

Given a sheaf on a projective space P^n we define a sequence of canonical and easily computable Chow complexes on the Grassmannians of planes in P^n, generalizing the Beilinson monad on P^n. If the sheaf has dimension k, then the Chow form of the associated k-cycle is the determinant of the Chow complex on the Grassmannian of planes of codimension k+1. Using the theory of vector bundles and the canonical nature of the complexes we are able to give explicit determinantal and Pfaffian formulas for resultants in some cases where no polynomial formulas were known. Group Actions on Vector Bundles on the Projective Plane

We study the action of the group of automorphisms of the projective plane on the Maruyama scheme of sheaves $\mathcal{M}_{P^{2}}(r,c_{1,}c_{2})$ of rank $r$ and Chern classes $c_{1}=0$ and $c_{2}=n$ and obtain sufficient conditions for unstability in the sense of Mumford's geometric invariant theory. The conditions are in terms of the splitting behaviour of sheaves when restricted to lines in the projective plane. A very strong parallel is observed with Mumford's theory for the action of the automorphism group of the projective plane on the spaces of curves of a fixed degree.
