Positively Curved Cohomogeneity One Manifolds and 3-Sasakian Geometry

We give an exhaustive description of all simply connected odd dimensional cohomogeneity one manifolds that can possibly support an invariant metric with positive sectional curvature. Among the known examples of odd dimensional manifolds with positive curvature, apart from spheres, there are two infinite families among the 7-dimensional Eschenburg spaces and 13-dimensional Bazaikin spaces and one isolated 7-dimensional Berger space with this property. In addition to these examples, it turns out that only one isolated 7-manifold, and two infinite 7-dimensional families, potentially admit invariant cohomogeneity one metrics of positive curvature.

Quaternionic Kähler Manifolds of Cohomogeneity One

Classification results are given for (i) compact quaternionic Kähler manifolds with a cohomogeneity-one action of a semi-simple group, (ii) certain complete hyperKähler manifolds with a cohomogeneity-two action of a semi-simple group preserving each complex structure, (iii) compact 3-Sasakian manifolds which are cohomogeneity one with respect to a group of 3-Sasakian symmetries. Information is also obtained about non-compact quaternionic Kähler manifolds of cohomogeneity one and the cohomogeneity of adjoint orbits in complex semi-simple Lie algebras.

Cohomogeneity one manifolds with quasipositive curvature

In this paper we give a classification of cohomogeneity one manifolds admitting an invariant metric with quasipositive sectional curvature except for two $7$-dimensional families. The main result carries over almost verbatim from the classification results in positive curvature carried out by Verdiani and Grove, Wilking and Ziller. Symmetries of Contact Metric Manifolds

We study the Lie algebra of infinitesimal isometries on compact Sasakian and K--contact manifolds. Positively curved 7-dimensional manifolds

We deal with seven dimensional compact Riemannian manifolds of positive curvature which admit a cohomogeneity one action by a compact Lie group G. We prove that the manifold is diffeomorphic to a sphere if the dimension of the semisimple part of G is bigger than 6.

Topological properties of Eschenburg spaces and 3-Sasakian manifolds

The authors examine topological properties of the 7-dimensional Eschenburg biquotients diag(z^k1,z^k2,z^k3)\SU(3)/diag(z^l1,z^l2,z^l3). A subfamily of these spaces carry a 3-Sasakian metric. Totally geodesic orbits of isometries

We study cohomogeneity one Riemannian manifolds and we establish some simple criterium to test when a singular orbit is totally geodesic. As an application, we classify compact, positively curved Riemannian manifolds which are acted on isometrically by a non semisimple Lie group with an hypersurface orbit.

Rank three geometry and positive curvature

An axiomatic characterization of buildings of type $\CC_3$ due to Tits is used to prove that any cohomogeneity two polar action of type $\CC_3$ on a positively curved simply connected manifold is equivariantly diffeomorphic to a polar action on a rank one symmetric space. This includes two actions on the Cayley plane whose associated $\CC_3$ type geometry is not covered by a building.
